Chair’s Message In response to the ever-increasing interests and technological developments in environmentally friendly energy systems, the Organizing Committee is pleased to welcome you to the 4th International Symposium on Environment-Friendly Energies and Applications (EFEA 2016) which will be held in Belgrade, Serbia, from 14-16 September 2016. This year Belgrade is honoured with opportunity to take organization of this event and serve as a host to researches, experts from industry and guests all devoted to environmental friendly applications for providing clean energy and sustainable systems. EFEA 2016 continues tradition from previous conferences held in Newcastle, UK in 2012 and Paris, France in 2014, where scope includes topics such as energy policy and security, biofuel, geothermal energy as well as lifelong learning and professional development in renewable energy. Hosted by University of Belgrade, Serbia (namely Electrical Engineering Institute Nikola Tesla, School of Electrical Engineering and Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) - in collaboration with the Northumbria University at Newcastle upon Tyne, UK and University of Valenciennes, France, EFEA 2016 is a forum for bringing academics, scientists, engineers and industrial partners together to discuss the recent developments in the areas of environment friendly energies and their applications. Prof. Jovica Milanovic, University of Manchester, UK Non-conventional approaches to modelling, operation and control of sustainable power and energy systems Jovica V Milanovic received Dipl.Ing. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Belgrade, Yugoslavia, Ph.D. degree from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and D.Sc. degree from The University of Manchester, UK. Prior to joining The University of Manchester, UK, in 1998, he worked with “Energoproject”, Engineering and Consulting Co. and the University of Belgrade in Yugoslavia, and the Universities of Newcastle and Tasmania in Australia.

Currently, he is a Professor of Electrical Power Engineering, Deputy Head of School and Director of External Affairs and Business Engagement in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at The University of Manchester, UK, Visiting Professor at the University of Novi Sad and the University of Belgrade, Serbia and Conjoint Professor at the University of Newcastle, Australia. He was chairman of 3 international conferences, editor or member of editorial/technical boards of 60+ international journals and conferences, research project assessor for 12 international government research funding councils, member of 8 (convenor of 2) past or current IEEE/CIGRE/CIRED WG and consultant or member of advisory boards for several international companies. Professor Milanovic published over 420 research papers and reports, gave 17 key-note speeches at international conferences and presented over 120 courses/tutorials and lectures to industry and academia around the world. Professor Milanovic is a Chartered Engineer in the UK, Foreign member of the Serbian Academy of Engineering Sciences, Fellow of the IET, Fellow of the IEEE, Distinguished IEEE PES Lecturer and currently serves on IEEE PES Governing Board as Regional Representative for Europe, Middle east and Africa and on IEEE PES Fellows Committee.

Prof. Kamal Youcef Toumi, MIT, USA Energy Technology Impacts on Industrial Competitiveness Kamal Youcef-Toumi joined the MIT Mechanical Engineering Department faculty in January 1986 as an Assistant Professor. Prior to his faculty appointment, Professor Youcef-Toumi served as a Research Associate and Lecturer with this Department. He earned his advanced degrees (M.S. 1981 and Sc.D. 1985) in Mechanical Engineering from MIT. His undergraduate degree (B.S. in Mechanical Engineering awarded in 1979) is from the University of Cincinnati. Professor Youcef-Toumi's research has focused primarily on design, control theory and its

applications to dynamic systems. His research has focused on controller design for systems with unknown dynamics, and in particular, the development of control techniques with fast adaptation, modelling and simulation of dynamic systems. The applications have included manufacturing, robotics, automation, metrology and nano/biotechnology. He teaches courses in the fields of dynamic systems and controls; robotics; and precision machine design and controls. Professor Youcef-Toumi was selected as a National Science Foundation Presidential Young Investigator "in recognition of research and teaching accomplishments and academic potential." This was awarded by President Ronald Reagan. He also held a Carl Richard Soderberg Career Development Chair given by MIT's School of Engineering. He has served on several professional committees of The National Science Foundation. Other services include Chairman of the Information Technology program within The Arab Science and Technology Foundation, and Member of the review committee for European Union funded Network of Excellence for Innovative Production Machines and Systems. He is also the Co-Director of the Center for Clean Water and Clean Energy at MIT, the Head of the Controls, Instrumentation and Robotics Area in the Mechanical Engineering Department at MIT, and Member of the Council for International Programs. Professor Youcef-Toumi has served as a consultant for a several companies including AT&T Bell Laboratories, EDO Corporation, Varian Radiation Division, Gillette Corp., Delta Search Laboratories, Jentek Sensors and Mitsubishi Electric.

Prof. Marco Rivera, University of Talca, Chile New Configurations of Power Converters for Grid Interconnection Systems Marco Rivera received his B.Sc. in Electronics Engineering and M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from the Universidad de Concepción, Chile in 2007 and 2008, respectively. He earned the degree of Doctor of Electronics Engineering at the Department of Electronics Engineering, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, in Valparaíso, Chile, in 2011 with a scholarship from the Chilean Research Fund CONICYT. During 2011 and 2012, he was working as a postdoc researcher and part-time professor at the Department of Electronics Engineering, Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, in Valparaíso, Chile. His research interests include

matrix converters, predictive and digital controls for high-power drives, four-leg converters, and the development of high performance control platforms based on Field-Programmable Gate Arrays. Currently, he is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Technologies at Universidad de Talca, Curicó, Chile. In 2013 Prof. Rivera was awarded with the Premio Tesis de Doctorado Academia Chilena de Ciencias 2012, which was awarded to the best PhD Thesis developed in 2011 for national and foreign students in any exact or natural sciences program that is a member of the Academia Chilena de Ciencias, Chile. In 2015, Prof. Rivera has been awarded with the Premio AIE IEEE Ingeniero Sobresaliente 2015 (Outstanding Professor of 2015), award given by the Association of the Electrical and Electronics Industry and the International Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers – Chile Section.

Prof. Emil Levi, Liverpool John Moores University, UK Advances in Integrated On-board Battery Chargers for Electric Vehicles

Emil Levi received his Dipl. Ing. degree in Electrical Engineering in 1982 from the University of Novi Sad and Masters and PhD degrees in 1986 and 1990, from the University of Belgrade (Yugoslavia). In the period from 1982 until 1992 he worked in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the University of Novi Sad. He joined Liverpool John Moores University in 1992 and is since 2000 Professor of Electric Machines and Drives. Emil is a Fellow of IEEE (Class of 2009) and the recipient of the Cyril Veinott award of the IEEE

Power and Energy Society for 2009 and the Best Paper Award of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics for 2008. In 2014, he received the “Outstanding Achievement Award” from the European Power Electronics Association. He served as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics in the period 2009-2013 and currently serves as an Editor of the IEEE Trans. on Energy Conversion and as Editor-in-Chief of the IET Electric Power Applications (since 2010). Emil leads the Electric Machines and Drives Research Group at the Liverpool John Moores University, which is widely regarded as a centre of excellence for research in the areas of multiphase electric machine and power electronic converter modelling and control. The work of the Group is characterised with a high level of international collaboration, and it regularly accommodates academics from leading European Universities for research stays.

Prof. Milutin Jovanovic, Northumbria University Newcastle, UK Design and Performance of Wind Power Generators Milutin Jovanovic received the BEng and MEng degrees from the University of Belgrade, Serbia, in 1987 and 1991 respectively, and the Ph.D. degree from the University of Newcastle, Australia, in 1997, all in electrical engineering. In the period of 1987 to 1992 he was a Lecturer in power converters and drives in the Department of Electrical Engineering of the University of

Belgrade. From 1992 until 1997 he was with the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the University of Newcastle, Australia, where he successfully completed his PhD studies (full-time internally funded studentship and overseas postgraduate research student award) on sensor-less control of synchronous reluctance motors, to be subsequently employed there as a Senior Research Associate. In 1998 he joined the School of Engineering of Liverpool John Moores University as a Lecturer in Power Engineering. Since 2000, he has been with the Faculty of Engineering and Environment (formerly the School of Computing, Engineering and Information Sciences) of Northumbria University at Newcastle, first as a senior lecturer and currently as a reader (associate professor) in power engineering. He is the leader of the MSc Electrical Power Engineering programme and Electric Machines and Drives discipline within the Power and Renewable Energy Research group in the Department of Mathematics, Physics and Electrical Engineering, and has many other research management roles at the Faculty level. The main areas of his expertise and research activities are in control and applications of electric machines & drives (especially of reluctance type) and wind energy conversion systems. Prof. Jovanovic lectured a range of power engineering subjects in electric machines/drives, renewable energy technologies, power electronics and/or power systems across different undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes. In addition, he had many invited special sessions organisations, chairmanships and presentations at reputable conferences and prestigious events, universities and other scientific institutions across Europe (e.g. UK, Serbia, Slovenia, Italy, Turkey, France), China and Australia. He is a senior member of IEEE, a member of numerous IEEE/IET technical societies, international steering, publication and/or conference organising committees, editorial boards etc., the treasurer of the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society chapter for UK & RI, as well as a recipient of many research grants, awards and/or industrial consultancy contracts. He has published over 150 journal and conference papers, 6 book chapters and filed 3 patents for his original contributions to control and variable speed brushless doubly-fed reluctance machines.

Keynote lecture MEDO 2016

Prof. Dean Vucinic, Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB) Multidisciplinary Modelling and Simulation underpinning European Research and Development in Engineering Dean Vucinic is a Professor and Senior Research Scientist at the Department of Mechanical Engineering (MECH) of the Vrije Universiteit Brussels (VUB). Research experience: Involved in the European RTD founded projects from 1988, see table

below, in which it can be noted that from 1998 he was actively managing EU projects (ALICE, QNET-CFD) and participating in the Tempus projects as the project coordinator of 3 JEP Tempus projects. Scientific Papers: He is author of more than 40 original scientific papers related to the application of the “scientific visualization” as an important software tool in solving engineering problems, and also addressing the “information visualization” in general, applied to the multidisciplinary collaborative engineering design. International presence in the program/scientific/organizational committees of worldwide conferences:

Chairmen must be in their respective rooms 10 minutes before the start of their session. Presenters must meet with chairmen of their session 10 minutes before the start of their session to hand in

the Presenter Introduction Form and the Presentation Power Point file. 20 minutes (15 minutes presentation and 5 minutes question and answer) is allocated for each paper. Presenters must keep to the allocated time to ensure the smooth running of the programme.

The conference MEDO offers an EPLAN Electric P8 Workshop within the scope of the conference program. EPLAN

Electric P8 is electrical-engineering software developed by company EPLAN (Germany) which is currently market

leader in the area electrical CAD systems with more as 50 subsidiaries worldwide.

Prospective conference visitors can get first information about the newest functions of the software systems of the

EPLAN platform. At “Hand-on Workshop” – participates can try out the software, start to project simple projects and

can discover and learn about new possibilities in the engineering. Short insight into the system will be given and user

will enter with first steps into the system. Besides, the subject palette is many-sided and reaches from standard-

electric project engineering to special subjects like switch cabinet construction or PLC projecting.
