Welcome As Scouts, we believe in empowering young people with skills for life. We encourage our young people to do more, learn more and be more. Each week, we give over 450,000 young people the opportunity to enjoy fun and adventure while developing the skills they need to succeed, now and in the future. We’re talking about teamwork, leadership and resilience – skills that have helped Scouts become everything from teachers and social workers to astronauts and Olympians. We believe in bringing people together. We celebrate diversity and stand against intolerance, always. We’re a worldwide movement, creating stronger communities and inspiring positive futures. Having just launched a new strategic plan – Skills for Life, our plan to prepare better futures –, this is an incredibly exciting time for Scouting in the UK. We welcome talent from all backgrounds and your contribution to help even more young people succeed in life.

Tim Kidd, UK Chief Commissioner Matt Hyde, Chief Executive

‘I believe that Scouts empowers young people. It gives them skills to achieve the remarkable, and opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of the rapidly changing world.’ Tim Kidd, UK Chief Commissioner

Core purpose At Scouts, we have over 100 years experience providing educational and engaging activities for young people. As part of expanding this legacy, we have built a digital planning tool. It’s designed to help leaders (but can be used by parents, teachers, and anyone else looking for fun activities to do with young people) compile activities into anything from a single one-hour meeting to a full multi-year programme. It’s also possible to download ready-made sessions, term outlines and even a two-year plan for Cub-age children, with the same becoming available for Beaver-age children in the next few weeks. So far, we’ve released over 500 free activities: These support each Scouts badge requirement from both the Beavers (young people aged 6–8) and Cubs (aged 8–10½) programme, and help provide young people with vital life skills. As we move into the Scouts (young people aged 10½–14) phase of this project, we will be producing activities which are geared far more towards adventure and outdoor exploration. As a content producer you will be at front line of curating and creating activity ideas, which will support badges from navigation to nautical skills, pitching tents to parascending, and a whole lot more inbetween.

Key tasks Develop activities and resources to support a high quality, balanced programme for 6-17 year olds – with a

particular emphasis on outdoor and adventurous skills. These should be age appropriate, in line with our Scout Method and Values and distinct from formal educational activities.

Provide guidance on how to make activities accessible, inclusive and adaptable. Consult and involve volunteers to validate and test these activities – balancing the need for rapid content

development, with ensuring materials are evidence driven, effective, accessible, realistic and capitalise on the expertise of our volunteers.

Proactively engage with other internal and external stakeholders and experts who can enhance the quality of programme content.

Liaise with communications colleagues so that the content produced is translated into brand compliant, accessible, inspiring language – without losing its meaning.

Plan and facilitate workshops around non-content functionality (for example, exploring how we differentiate between Scout-led, low risk activities and externally-led adventures which require permits).

Safeguarding rules – yellow card

We are a youth organisation who takes safeguarding seriously. The post holder agrees to comply at all times with the safeguarding rules as set out on The Scout Association’s yellow card, which can be found here. This is shared with young people and carers, as well as employees, so everyone knows our rules of engagement. In order to comply, stringent vetting procedures take place including checking against an internal database to assess suitability and also Basic/Enhanced DBS checks as required. GDPR and data protection

The post holder hereby agrees not to disclose any confidential or sensitive information to a third party or outside organisation except where required to do so by law and to adhere to our Data Protection and GDPR policies Health and safety

The post holder agrees to abide by The Scout Association’s Health and Safety principles and code of conduct and to take all reasonable steps to ensure both their own safety in the work place as well as that of their colleagues. Equal opportunities

The Post holder agrees to promote and uphold the principles of equal opportunities in accordance with The Scout Association’s Equal Opportunities Statement and all related policies.
