ART DECO GUIDED WALK OF HASTINGS CBD (Ind Event)Join Hawke’s Bay historian and author Michael Fowler for a guided Art Deco tour around the Hastings CBD, just 20 minutes from Napier. The tour includes striking examples of Art Deco, Spanish Mission and Stripped Classical buildings, built in Hastings after the 1931 earthquake. Included are dramatic stories and information on how the 1931 Hawke’s Bay Earthquake affected Hastings. Thu 14, Fri 15, Sat 16 Feb at 10am and 1pm, Sun 17 Feb at 10am. Numbers are limited. If not fully subscribed, tickets will be available on the day of the tour from the Hastings i-SITE, corner Russell and Heretaunga Sts, Hastings. Tickets at $17 include a 24 page souvenir book.

Your 3¼ hour tour will include a 30 minute introduction. AUTOMOBILIA - VINTAGE CAR PARADE(Free to View)Sponsored by Progressive MeatsWatch amazing autos sweep through town - from languid limos to cosy coupés. The vintage cars crawl from Clive Square to the Marine Parade via Lower Emerson St and Upper Emerson St, fi nishing at the Sound Shell Show and Shine to fl aunt cars and costumes. (See also Vintage Car Rides). The 25th Celebration Parade will be led by a stunning display of Bentleys from all parts of the world.Parade commences Sat 16 Feb at 12.30pm followed by public viewing of cars from 1.30pm on Marine Parade, Napier.

ENTRY INTO THE PARADE IS LIMITED TOEVENT-REGISTERED CARS ONLYCars can be registered at the Art Deco Trust or online at www.artdeconapier.com or through the Hawke’s Bay Vintage Car Club. Pre 1946 criteria apply. Cars must assemble at least one hour prior to the parade start time. Tickets $35. (Fee includes parade security and patrolled parking in the Sound Shell area of Marine Parade from 6pm Friday until 6pm Sunday).

BEACH BANQUETSponsored by Air New ZealandEnjoy a scrumptious buffet dinner by the beach with toe tapping jazz. You can also enjoy a fabulous view of the fl ying displays in the sky above the beach from 7.45pm.Fri 15 Feb at 7.30pm. Gate opens at 7.15pm to the marquee on the lower lawn foreshore beside the War Memorial Centre, Marine Parade, Napier. Tickets $75. Band starts and dinner is served at 8pm. Concludes at Midnight. BEACHCOMBER UKELELE (New Event)Here’s the chance to rack your brains and dig to the deepest corners of your wardrobe to fi nd the Deco outfi t you would wear on a desert island. Enjoy a beach buffet and while a ukulele is not compulsory, if you have one, bring one for the singalong.Sat Feb 16 from 7.00pm to 10.30pm in the Marquee on the Lower Lawn foreshore beside the War Memorial Centre. Dinner served at 7.30pm. Tickets $60.

BICYCLE BELLESBlokes, belles and even families are welcome to join this leisurely cycle along Marine Parade on the Rotary Pathway around to East Pier. There you can enjoy light refreshments before biking back to Marine Parade. Old bikes a must - and your deco duds of course! Sat 16 Feb 9.30am to 11.00am. Meet at Napier Foreshore behind the Sound Shell (on the pathway). Gold coin entry.

Catch all the hits from the 1930s withthe Hawke’s Bay Jazz Club Big Band plus The Dave Atkin Band,in an 8.15pm to 11.30pm free concert at the Sound Shell. Dressup and mingle with the smart crowd and vintage cars on the magical Marine Parade. BLACK TIE BALL IN THE ASSEMBLY HALLStart the most elegant weekend of the year in style in Hawke’s Bay’s fi nest ballroom at the Assembly Hall in Hastings. BOATERS AND BLAZERS YACHT CHASE (Ind Event)Napier Sailing Club conducts the Art Deco Weekend Chase which features a Mark Foy start (slowest go fi rst and the quickest last). The yachts will race around the port, and along Marine Parade, and the fl eet will feature some modern as well as older class boats such as Idle Alongs, Zeddies, Gaffers, and more. After a short stroll along the estuary boardwalk, we return via the old Hospital on the hill with a truly spectacular view across Ahuriri and the former harbour.
