TABLE NOTES This document lists academic programs and research and service centers at Illinois State University authorized and recognized by the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) as of July 1, 2017. This document does not reflect program changes approved prior to July 1, 2017, but not effective until after July 1, 2017. This document does not reflect program changes approved after July 1, 2017. Academic programs and research and service centers listed in this document are included on the official inventory of Illinois State University programs and centers maintained by IBHE. Program and center names in this document match names in the IBHE inventory and are the names that should be used by the University. A Classification of Instructional Program code, or CIP code, is associated with each program and center in this document. The code is intended to reflect the field of study that is the focus of the program. For all programs except minors, CIP codes have been assigned by IBHE. CIP codes for minors have been assigned by the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Illinois State. All CIP codes are derived from the IPEDS Classification of Instructional Programs CIP 2010 (see http://nces.ed.gov/ipeds/cipcode/Default.aspx?y=55). CIP codes associated with research and service centers in this document do not appear in the CIP 2010 classification scheme. In the case of all but one center, the CIP code begins with “90,” the prefix assigned by IBHE to most centers. The four decimal numbers following “90” are assigned by IBHE from CIP 2010 and reflect the discipline most closely associated with the center. The CIP code of one center at Illinois State (Radio Station WGLT) begins with”60,” which appears in CIP 2010 and refers to residency programs. As with CIP codes for other centers at Illinois State, the four decimal numbers following “60” relate to the discipline most closely associated with the center (in this case “Radio, television, and digital communication”). Only research and service centers authorized and recognized by IBHE are included in the list of centers in this document. There are numerous other
entities at Illinois State with “center,” “institute,” or a similar term in their name, however those other entities are not officially recognized by IBHE. In addition to the CIP codes included in this document, CIP code 24.0199 is used by Illinois State in records of undergraduate and graduate students who have not yet been accepted into one of the degree programs listed in this document. Although IBHE has authorized Illinois State to offer an Integrated B.S./M.P.A. in Accountancy program, IBHE does not include that program in its official inventory of degree programs at Illinois State. Instead, the IBHE inventory includes a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Accountancy and a Master of Professional Accountancy (M.P.A.). The Specialist in School Psychology (S.S.P.) program is often associated with master’s level programs. However, IBHE criteria for designation of a program as a master’s degree program include the stipulation that the program consist of at least 30 but less than 60 semester hours. The S.S.P. program at Illinois State requires at least 60 semester hours consistent with standards of the discipline and its specialized accreditation association. Consequently, IBHE categorizes the S.S.P. program at Illinois State as a certificate program rather than as a master’s degree program. While degree programs in the Department of Accounting use the term “accountancy,” the minor in the department uses the term “accounting.” At the time the degree names were changed from “accounting” to “accountancy,” the name of the minor was not changed accordingly. The Center for Insurance and Financial Services at Illinois State is more commonly known as the “Katie School.” IBHE does not recognize the latter name. For more information about this document or about any program listed in it, please contact Bruce Stoffel, Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, [email protected], (309) 438-2922. brs 7-6-17
