Leveraging Integrated Infrastructure Management

Progressive ensures smooth performance of the IT infrastructure of an FMCG giant through a mix of remote infrastructure monitoring, on-site and on-call support solutions

One of the largest FMCG companies in India, with interests in the healthcare, personal care and food products domains, decided to opt for Progressive’s

integrated infrastructure management encompassing re-mote monitoring as well as on-site and on-call support so-lutions. The company has 60 locations in India, operates in more than five countries and has sales worldwide. It has been a client of Progressive for more than four years.

Today, the IT infrastructure is critical to the functioning of this organization. With the business growing and expand-ing to several locations across the country, the IT infra-structure has become the very backbone for its business. Real-time communication across departments and offices, updates on key business parameters, optimized work pro-ductivity across the country—all these are imperative to the smooth running of the organization.

Integrated Infrastructure Management Progressive started the engagement with the organization with facility management services. IT management now needed to move from being just a break-fix mechanism to being far more proactive. Progressive suggested an in-tegrated model to the organization. Under this, the busi-ness critical IT infrastructure is monitored by Progressive remotely from its Remote Infrastructure Managament Cen-tre (RIM/NOC) in NOIDA, near New Delhi. This is comple-mented by Progressive’s on-site and on-call support staff, which covers all 60 client locations.

Progressive is among the pioneering organizations in India to offer an integrated infrastructure management model. With this model, there is 24/7 monitoring of the IT infrastructure, helping clients move from a reactive to proactive monitoring of IT infrastructure, and thus avert downtime. With its coverage of 100 locations, Progressive has the footprint to deliver support on site with rapid turn-around times. According to the head of the MSO, Progres-sive, “Apart from this being a unique achievement, it is often a key criterion for clients who need to go for major implementations or rollouts. These clients clearly have a choice with Progressive, because they get a comprehensive coverage from a single service provider.”

ChallengeThe FMCG giant has expanded to 60 lo-cations across the country. Each location is critical from the business perspective and has to ensure maximum uptime. The organization realized that it had to move to a predictive maintenance mode for the IT infrastructure.

SolutionProgressive provides an integrated infrastructure management solution to the customer with end-to-end remote infrastructure monitoring and a 24/7 Enterprise Help Desk. It also manages and monitors heterogeneous platforms, business critical applications, and en-sures process-driven service delivery. This is complemented by an on-site and on-call support solution and covers all 60 locations of the organization.

BenefitsThe benefits of this model include pro-active monitoring and management of infrastructure, reduced cost of manage-ment, business continuity, reduced cost of ownership and improved customer satisfaction.

Diagnosing Issues, Optimizing InfrastructureAs businesses go online, embrace e-commerce, move to centralized data centers and remote applications, IT infra-structure is becoming even more critical. In this scenario, an integrated IT infrastructure management model is re-quired to support and ensure the uptime of the IT infra-structure of the customer.

The ongoing 24/7 technology-driven monitoring system for the FMCG giant has ensured that there is an alert sys-tem in place. The stakeholders of a particular service or portion of the IT infrastructure are alerted as soon as there is an issue with the operation. There are preset thresholds which lead to the alerts being generated, and break-fix or maintenance services can be quickly deployed.

Through trend analysis of the monitoring data, domain experts at Progressive’s RIMC create a predictive approach to reduce downtime further. This leads to huge savings for the client in terms of IT availability.

Real-time ReportingA dashboard has also been provided to the customer for remote monitoring. This is a web-based, real-time dash-board which helps the customer get a clear understanding of what is happening with the IT infrastructure at any point in time. This is a tool developed by the Progressive team and is customized to deliver the reports that the organi-zation requires. It picks up the information from various tools running to monitor the infrastructure and creates a snapshot of the health of the IT setup based on the last data polled. Reports are also generated depending on the frequency defined by the customer.

The service also allows the customer access to domain specialists and provides streamlined and integrated service delivery. This has led to reduced cost of managing and run-ning the IT infrastructure. It also ensures business continu-ity and improved customer satisfaction.

This is monitored by Pro-gressive remotely using HP OpenView, and this is complemented by Progres-sive’s on-site and on-call support staff, which covers all 60 customer locations.
