NATIONAL YOUTH OFFICE NASIONALE JEUGKANTOOR
21 February 1985
Mr. Mike Evans Chairperson E.C.C 14 St. Michaels Road OBSERVATORY 7925
Dear Mike
I have conveyed your committees decision to my executive regarding informal links between the E.C.C. and the Young Progressives.
We are dissappointed at the decision taken but understand the difficult position you have been placed in. It is however our intention to continue to pursue the issue of conscription both within the P.F.P. and through the media.
I would like to thank you for receiving me in such an honestand open manner. It is m y opinion that opposition politics (bothparliamentary and extra parliamentary) will be placed undersevere pressure during the next few years and it is thereforevital that we do not allow our idealogical differences to damageour opposition to issues where we can be of benefit to each other such asin opposing conscription.
I have enclosed the copies I promised you as well as an invitation and program of our Congress which your are most welcome to atte n d .
Good luck for the 1985 Campaign
Yours sincerely

Dear Janet,
On behalf of the National Executive of the Young Progressives I would like to offer our sincere apologies to you for the blatant lies and silly misconceptions which were contained in the report submitted to me by Mark Crompton a member of the Young Progs in Port Elizabeth. The Executive was unanimous in its rejection of the report as a whole. In our statement which we issued after our meeting held in P E on the 22nd of March we included as one of our aims the intention to foster closer links with the ECC in all Regions. Mark Crompton is no longer a member of the Progressive Federal Party.
Once again please accept our apologies for the unnecessary and unfounded allegations made in the report.
Yours sincerely,
ANDREW MILLERNational Chairperson pp

Dear Friends
UMAC Cape Western Region was established to intervene, wherever possible, in conflict situations between the people and the constitutional authorities.
Our role in such situations is focussed on:-
(1) Negotiating with the police to defuse the situation;
(2) Raising in Parliament reports' of police excesses; demanding and obtaining responses from Government Ministers;
(3) Exposing the public, in particular white voters, to conditions in the townships;
(4) Assisting with the location and ascertaining the condition of detainees;
(5 ) Carrying out routine monitoring exercises in the townships, both urban and rural;
(6 ) Channelling relevant resources to appropriate organisations.
There are other organisations, such as yours, which also work in this field, and we will be very happy to co-ordinate our activities and share the information that we collect.
The main reason why we have embarked on this project is because we feel a need to get directly involved in the political events which are at present shaping South Africa. As a parliamentary political party we have found this to be an important learning exercise and we would like to hear your comments.
You may have heard that we produced a report on the Displaced People of Crossroads/K.T.C. and copies of this are available on request at a cost of R2-50 per copy. The charge is merely to defray printing costs.
Sincerely

Dear Friends
It has come to our attention that correspondence for the Western Cape Young Progressives is being addressed to our National Office instead of to the Western Cape Region. This has resulted in the unfortunate position that we are not always aware of projects that your organisation might want us to assist with or participate i n .
Please note that all correspondence should be sent to :

Dear
You are invited to attend a cocktail party to be held in the Fairmead Hotel,
Rondebosch on Friday evening the 1st of March and hosted by the National
Youth Executive of the Progressive Federal Party.
Despite meeting Members of Parliament, and other Prog personalities, this
should provide an excellent opportunity for you to meet Young Progressives
from the rest of the country.
Starting around 6 o'clock it will continue until 8 p.m. when Dr. F. Van
Zyl Slabbert, will officially open the Congress.
The cost of the party is a mere R2.00
I look forward to seeing you.
Please could you let us know whether or not you intend coming by phoning
one of the numbers below.
Yours sincerely
ANDREW MILLER
P.S. Please bring your friends along.
