A new improved intercultural website for the public speaker Pernille Bernitt Sommer In this project we have a real life client: A public speaker and author Pernille Bernitt Sommer. The project is an improvement and expan-sion of her website: http://pernillebernittsommer.com/index.html

Learning objectives• Collect and assess empirical data on target groups

and usage situations• Apply central methods and tools for planning and

implementing user tests• Assess and apply central principles for digital graphic design• Handle the modelling, structuring, and formatting of

information according to current practice

Meeting PernillePernille will appear at the beginning of the project and talk about what she wants and her wishes for the website. Part of the project is to pay close attention to what Pernille is saying and make sure to ask her questions.

We have arranged for Pernille to show up at the project brief Monday 7th of Nov. at 11 o’clock in the cantina.

DemandsThere are some minimum demands that you have to fulfill in order to receive your 15 study points for this project.

You have to do an Expert review of the exciting website. (Since the website is in Danish it’s recommended for the international students to join some Danish student for this part of the project).

You have to design a new solution of the website where you • Fix the problems that you find in the Expert review• Make sure to fulfill Pernille’s needs and wishes The new website has to be tested with actual users

Pernille Bernitt Sommer wants users who are interested in her forthcoming book to be able to register on the page so they can be notified when the book is published. Thus the website should contain a form where users can register so Pernille can send them an e-mail when the time comes. It is not a requirement that the underly-ing registration functionality is implemented (with database, etc.), but the form must at least validate that the entered user data has an appropriate format (name, email, etc.). It is also a requirement that the website works on different devices (laptop, tablet, mobile phone). The design of the site must therefore be based on the principles of responsive design.

Pernille has many wishes for her upcoming website and she is also open to good ideas from your side. You may decide to implement only a few or all of her wishes – as long as the code comply with these minimum requirements:

• Valid HTML5• Forms with validation function• Separation of markup (HTML) and presentation (CSS)• Responsive design with media queries

The new website has to be uploaded and available on the Internet.

Additionally the project has to be documented in each student’s portfolio with a link to the presentation and a link to the website solution.

GroupsYou have to form groups consisting of 4-5 students. One group member from each group must send an e-mail to Morten (MORO) with names of the members in the group no later than Wednesday 9th of Nov. After this date Morten will form groups of the students that are not already in a group.

PresentationEach group has to give a presentation in Ian’s class in week 47. All text in the presentation (every slide) has to be in English.

The presentation has to contain (as a minimum):• A table clearly showing the results of an Expert review (title, de-

scription, url, heuristic/design principle, category, suggestions for improvements). This table has to contain at least 4 potential prob-lems

• At least 2 visuals (screenshots) from the existing website with clear indication of errors

• Clear documentation of at least 3 user tests (quotes, pictures, movie clips) executed on your new webdesign

• Clear visual indication (screenshots) of where you found user problems (in your own solution)

• A table showing the results of a Gangster test with the 3 users and a clear indication of where the biggest problems were in the naviga-tion (also on your own new solution)

Each group has to create and perform a presentation with the re-quired content. Every student has to speak during the presentation. There is no maximum limit to the number of slides in the presenta-tion. But each slide has to be designed so it emphasizes what is be-ing presented. Each presentation can be no longer than 10 minutes.

The presentations will take place on the following dates:MUL-A: Friday 25th of NovemberMUL-B: Thursday 24th of November MIL: Thursday 24th of November

Study pointsThis project is mandatory and must be approved to obtain 15 study points. A student who has not participated in the project work and / or has not had the project approved obtains 0 study points.

To obtain the 15 study points every student has to accomplish the following:• 5 points: Participation in the oral presentation (with Ian, IWP). All

students that present must be speaking during the presentation. The presentation has to be uploaded in the hand-in folder on Fronter before the deadline

• 5 points: The presentation has to be implemented in the student’s portfolio before the deadline. And a clickable links to each student’s portfolio must appear clearly on the first slide of the presentation

• 5 points: The new website has to be online no later than the dead-line. A clickable links to the group’s website solution must appear clearly on the first slide of the presentation

Study points will be shown on Fronter in the beginning of December.

DeadlineThe deadline for uploading the digital presentation in the hand-in folder on Fronter and having the new website online is Wednesday 23rd of November 23.59

FeedbackEach group will receive an oral feedback from Ian based on their presentation right after they have performed. Before the feedback from Ian the rest of the class will have a chance to comment and give critic for the presentation.

Each group will receive a grade for the presentation. However, there is not necessarily any connection between the grade given for the presentation and the study points received. The grade is only based on the oral presentation and the slideshow performed in class.

The group will receive a short comment on Fronter with feedback regarding the website.
