  • PHOTODESIGNDESCRIPTIONPhotodesign project using a photo I took and an analogous color scheme.

    DATEFebruary 7th, 2015

    COURSE / INSTRUCTORCOMM 130 Section 1Cory Kerr

    PROGRAMS USEDAdobe Photoshop

OBJECTIVELearn basic photography skills and how to choose a color scheme

PROCESS I went outside to take various photos. I then picked the photo I liked best, and found a color scheme that worked with the photo I took. On Photoshop I made various colored boxes using the analogous col-or scheme and angled them to match the angle of the character in the photo. I used the lasso tool to copy a part of the shield and pasted it on the top layer to make it appear as if it was popping out over the colored boxes.

    PROGRAMS USEDMicrosoft Word

OBJECTIVELearn to use only Word design features without using any Adobe pro-grams, including Photoshop. Learn how to scan images.

PROCESS I made a few basic sketches of how I wanted the flier to look after hav-ing picked two images to scan that I wanted to include. Looking at the images I chose a color scheme that I thought went well with them. I went for a somewhat chaotic look for this flier, because it is for a punk rock show.

PROGRAMS USEDAdobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign

OBJECTIVELearn to set up a two-sided folding document using multiple quality images. Learn to wrap text.

PROCESS First I designed the logo in Illustrator. Once I had the logo I started putting things together in InDesign. I wanted the brochure to resemble a piano, so I made the piano keyboard visible to the side, and the bro-chure opens like the hood of a piano. I edited one of the images in Pho-toshop to make it blend with the background texture.

    PROGRAMS USEDAdobe Illustrator

OBJECTIVECreate three different original logos for a company using only Illustrator.

PROCESS First I made a bunch of sketches for logo ideas that I had. Then I opened Illustrator and tried my best to recreate my sketches digitally. I used the pen tool to draw half of a guitar, and then mirrorred the half to create a whole symmetrical guitar, which I then filled in with a color. I used the shapebuilder tool to create the music note.

  • DESCRIPTIONA montage with a spiritual theme, pieced together from four different images and with added typography.

    DATEFebruary 14th, 2015

    COURSE / INSTRUCTORCOMM 130 Section 1Cory Kerr

    PROGRAMS USEDAdobe Photoshop

OBJECTIVELearn to blend multiple images together using masks. and unify a layout with a consistent theme and dominant spiritual message.

PROCESS First I made some rough sketches, and then I spent a long time search-ing online for images to use that would work with the idea in my head and on my sketches. Once I found images that worked, I used masks to hide every part of the image I did not want to use in the montage. I ar-ranged the pieces together and did some blending to get the final result.

    MONTAGE

  • DESCRIPTIONBlack and white flier for a graduate leadership leadership conference.

    DATEJanuary 24th, 2015

    COURSE / INSTRUCTORCOMM 130 Section 1Cory Kerr

    PROGRAMS USEDAdobe InDesign

OBJECTIVEIncorporate basic InDesign skills to improve basic flier layout.

PROCESS I started with a basic outline, with the boxes, and then worked on pick-ing the fonts I wanted to use for the title and body of my flier. These fonts went through multiple changes before I settled on something I felt works well. Throughout the entire process I was conscious that I wanted to align everything as best I could. I picked the image I thought fit the flier well and implemented it and the company logo into my flier.

    PROGRAMS USEDAdobe InDesign, and Illustrator

OBJECTIVECreate stationery for a company with contact information.

PROCESS First I designed the logo in Illustrator. I arranged the logo and the im-portant information at the top of the stationery. I then added two blue waves to the top and bottom of the stationery, to keep it consistent with the business card I designed for the same company.

    PROGRAMS USEDAdobe InDesign, and Illustrator

OBJECTIVECreate a business card for a company with contact information.

PROCESS I wanted to keep the business card simple. I put the logo on the back side of the card, and to fill the space I streched the little piano keys I had created for the logo to fill the bottom half of the card. On the front I experimented changing the width of the wavy blue lines I was using. I then outlined them to turn them into shapes. I turned down the opacity, and I used the knife tool to cut the edges off that were bleeding off the edge of the design.

    PROGRAMS USEDNotepad++

OBJECTIVEAcquire a working knowledge of HTML and CSS.

PROCESS The first thing I did was to add my logo to the webpage. After typing up a description of the logo that I pasted into the HTML document, I opened Photoshop and used the eyedropper tool to pick out the color of the guitar in my logo to use that color in the rest of my design. I used the same font from the logo for the headings to add to the overall con-sistency of the webpages design. The last thing I did was center the logo.
