Design, Drafting completed. As per Jim's instructions wait till second quarter for fabrication.

….Going to look at the feasibility of reversing wheel track to avoid freezing up in winter conditions. Camtech has offered a drip lip solution to redirect the condensate back into the steam chamber. More metal track area is in contact with live steam thus possibly avoiding ice buildup. Jim and I are going to look at these options closely.


Fabrication of integral steps on NU and D-Tee forms

NU form steps fabricated. Need to design the retractable steps for D-Tee as casting m/c goes by.


Condensate recovery system for curing chambers

Received two pre-fabricated larger capacity tanks for condensate recovery. Waiting for maintenance dept. for hookup

Design/ Construction

Local fabrication of bucket completed. Cost is 50% of the cost of previous supplied buckets (net $4000 savings).

Purchase of S65 aerial lift for plant usage

Going to reassess steam consumption once second curing chamber is up and running for De-Alkalizer sizing

Met with Harrup rep. and took measurement inside the batch plant to ensure fit. Received specs sheet from Plant Systems and questioned on few items on the spec sheet.

Draft version given to Jodie Helpar for feedback (Deadline was March - Objective 2011). No feedback yet. Waiting for the feedback from Judie Helpard.

Check and re-rate SWL for all lifting bars in use

14 bars total, 13 design checked and now due for MPI and visual inspection. 4 spreader bars repaired and due for post inspection. Going to coordinate more repairs.

Strand pulling inside the box girder form

Order material required to prepull strand directly inside the box girder form. Need to do an ROI analysis. Latest followup with Jim indicated that it is not implemented yet.

Working on required hardware to install and comission new haarup 4500 mixer coming in August. (water storage tank, mixer foundation pedestals)

Obtaining demolition permit for Packaging plant

TLC/ Target

Demolition permit obtained. Demolition started Feb 23. Paperwork sent to Tracy at TLC. Formal completion report pending.

City of Calgary

Obtained plant drawings from Tricycle and forwarded to HVAC consultant. Submitted the designed system drawing to City of Calgary and also to Tricycle Lane for comments. Next step is to invite quotes for awarding the contract.

Larger diameter culvert stoppe arms redesign


Mill end removal from Helcor machine production line

Received quote for a floor mounted jib crane ($9,000). Took measurements for roof clearance checks. Requested dwg from manufacturer to ensure proper clearance below the hook. Not enough clr. to handle bigger culvert. Project stalled as investigating a practically feasible sloution

Visited the site with HVAC consultant (Kismet Engg). He is finalizing the quote based on the requirements that were observed in the site visits. Redesigned the ventilation system myself and have requested a contractor price to do all the duct working. Obtained quote from one contractor and forwarded to Kevin to decide.


Hydraulic drive unit for the culvert handling trolley

Designed the drive unit and have passed all cost info to Kevin for approval.


Design of I-beam for handling coils with forklift. Design completed and sent to Kevin for approval. Check for feedback


Load rated one steel storage racking and passed informatino to Kevin to mark ratings on the shelving itself. Two more units are still pending.Design check on the existing geotech fab roll handler (safe load rating)

Design, draft, fabrication done in Calgary. Waiting to be shipped to Redwater. Going to ship coming Monday.


OH&S pointed out the inadequate welding shop ventilation. Going to talk to Matt (plant mgr.) about the course of action. Visited plant and redesigning exhaust system for mill saw area. Going to install new exhaust fan in welding shop with a makeup air unit. Coil handling beam design passed to Matt also.

Recently did one test as per John Moody's instructed test procedure. One test still pending.

One visit made to Acheson. Took measurement on 7 lifting beams. Did design check on 2 so far. Those were overrated - informed Dave MacDonald about this. Pending two beams checked for SWL and e-mailed David McDonald (June 30).

Dave MacDonald sent a picture of the existing 2Ton jib crane in the dry cast dept. Not certified, no drawings available. Going to look at that in the next visit. Measuring existing jib will require extensive time as it is over the production line. No plan of action yet.
