ERANet-LAC ERANet-LAC is a Network of the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on Joint Inno-vation and Research Activities. It supports the political process of implementing the Joint Initi-ative for Research and Innovation (JIRI) which was adopted by the EU-LAC Summit in 2010 with the objective to foster scientifi c cooperati-on between the two regions.

ERANet-LAC strengthens the bi-regional part-nership in Science, Technology and Innovation by planning and implementing concrete joint activities and by establishing an innovative and sustainable framework for future bi-regional joint activities. The project started in October 2013 and will run for 3.5 years, until March 2017. The consortium includes 18 partners from 16 EU-CELAC partner countries.

Joint Activities ERANet-Lac implements two Joint Calls for EU and LAC funding and innovation agencies. The call topics were endorsed by the EU-CELAC Senior Offi cials Meeting (SOM) and cover the following thematic areas:

Biodiversity / Climate, Bioecono-my, Energy, Health, ICT.

The 1st call was launched in September 2014. The 2nd call will be launched by the end of 2015.

ERANet-LAC implements pilot coordination actions to promote mutual opening and coordination of existing programmes and infra-structures by identifying groups of institutions that are willing to open their initiatives to EU and LAC participation or to build clusters.

The 1st call of expression of interest was launched in June 2014.The 2nd call of expression of interest will be launched in the second semester of 2015.

The joint activities initiated by the consortium are open for all interested research funding organizations in Latin America, the Caribbean Countries and Europe.

Sustainable StrategyERANet-LAC organizes a consultation process for funding and innovation agencies in order to enhance their involvement in the joint activities of the project. It promotes trust-building among the project partners and additional participating funding agencies in order to foster joint activities beyond the life-time of the project.

ERA-Net-LAC creates an EU-CELAC Information and Commu-nication Plat-form for funding agencies from both regions in order to provide an innovative and sustainable framework for future bi-regional joint activities and a strategy for future bi-regional funding.
