LT level Sub-clusters for Loss Monitoring

14

Sub-cluster Features: • DT grouping of same area• Geographical based• No of DTs in group- 5~15 nos• Not overlap with zones of

respective divisionWhy Sub-cluster is required: • Possibility of Energy sharing

among DTs • Tagging issues- minimized• Specific Strategies – for

critical sub-clusters

Major LR Initiatives

15

Technical initiatives

• New Grids, HT and LT feeders

• DT Addition/ Augmentation for overloaded DT, HVDS

• Balancing of Load at all voltage levels; Shunt Capacitors at LV

• LT Less system for AP connections

• Pole Metering; Group Metering,

• HVDS Bushing mounted DB

• New armoured street light Ckts in HVDS area

• Heat Shrink Coatings on theft prone points in network

• Chemical Joints; Application of Conductive paste on LT bushings to reduce contact resistance

Specialised / Commercial Initiatives

• Meter Relocation, Old Meter Replacement; MS box with shearing nut arrangement

• Bare conductor with armour cable; Armour cable in place of heavily punctured AB cable span, armoured cast tape to secure joints.

• Enforcement activities - Curbing E-Rickshaw theft, Odd Hour/ Surprise raids, Lady Guards

• Facilitator engagement to support team on the ground

• Surveillance of ations taken and generation of LR leads

• Mobile APP "Mission 8%"

Community Engagement Initiatives

• Engagement of local ladies "Jyoti" in JJs

• Free LED against replacement of Old I/C bulbs

• Adult Literacy and Vocational Training Centers

• Self Defence Training for Girls

• Children Awareness Campaign

• Medical Health Check-up Camps; Sports activities

• Settlement of Enforcement dues on easy terms to encourage new connection

• Nukkad Natak ; Short Movies on losses and its impact

Page 17: Project Management for Sustainable Reduction of AT&C Losses€¦ · Budget (Capex, Opex Material/Service) Planning and tracking of Utilization Reconciliation and closure Impact assessment

Specialised LR Initiatives

17

Bushing mounted DB in HVDS Areas

• Old DBs are more accessible to consumer reach• Mainly raising the height of DB towards LT bushing• Effective since the new installation is near to HT bushing and deterrent for breaking

New Street light Circuits• Laying of Theft proof Armoured cables in street light circuits• Application of auto controller helps in timely controlling of lighting points

Page 18: Project Management for Sustainable Reduction of AT&C Losses€¦ · Budget (Capex, Opex Material/Service) Planning and tracking of Utilization Reconciliation and closure Impact assessment

Specialised LR Initiatives

18

Smart Pole Metering

• Pole metering unit with on-line communication • Each Pole unit has 9 meters with real time data to central servers• Very successful since results in high energy growthChallenges: Collection and Scattered location

LT Less system for AP connections• Theft through LT bare conductors in Agriculture connections• LT Less schemes ensures no direct taping through LV Mains. • Also reduces Technical losses

Page 19: Project Management for Sustainable Reduction of AT&C Losses€¦ · Budget (Capex, Opex Material/Service) Planning and tracking of Utilization Reconciliation and closure Impact assessment

Specialised LR Initiatives

19

Specialized Connector Installation • Satellite Connectors are installed where Pole DBs are accessible for theft.• Pole DBs will be removed and connections are energized through specialized connectors

Heat Shrink / Armour Cast Tape Coatings

• Used in High Theft Pockets where Direct tapping is prominent• Direct theft is mainly through open joints at Pole DB or piercing connector• Coatings are very effective as difficult to tamper.

How loss is sustained after execution of LR activities?

• Sustenance is seen in major of Division

• <10% in 61% consumer – N0

• 10-25% gain in about 10% Customers – N1

• 25-50% gain in about 9%; - N2

• 50-100% gain in 7% - N3

• In 13% cases gain were >100% over same

period last year – N4.

LR effectiveness = N1+N2+N3+N4

=39%

DT Energy growth is discounted while calculating Gain

Impact analysis and Sustenance of LR activities

Flying squads for inspection and monitoring of BRPL network for

suspected electricity theft and Sustainability of LR activities performed

in high loss areas

• Identifies potential LR Leads

• On spot booking

• Sealing of open bus bars

• Faster is better – coordinate for early resolution of generated

leads.

• Check on quality, material used vs claimed and feedback

Selection of Division Details related to

LR activitiesMIS

• Onsite punching of individual LR activities – By field / Execution Team / Vendors• SDO / LR Manager / Engineer to ensure 100% entry of about 2000 jobs per day.
