Project Purpose:Achieve favorable conservation status of habitats and

species within the PA "Update - Karamandol "Specific objectives:

To restore and improve the water regime in the old river bed of the river Osam in the areas Kesikoru , Karamandol and blemish falling within the PA “Obnova- Karamandol

To restore native vegetation typical of riverside habitat " Riparian mixed forests of Quercus robur, Ulmus laevis and Fraxinus excelsior or Fraxinus angustifolia along major rivers.To promote environmental, social and economic benefits of biodiversity conservation Levski.

Alluvial forest " Kesikoru " - lands of the village Granitite Located on the right bank of the Osam River. The second largest forest of its kind in the Middle Danube Valley in the Forest " Karamandol "  The site is of priority importance in Bulgaria for the conservation of alluvial forests of pedunculate oak , which had virtually disappeared in the country. In the area found some rare and endangered species - Lesser Spotted Eagle, Black Stork , a colony of ground squirrels .

In the past, this meander was supplied with water from discharges it removal channels existing in the village of Sunrise, Levski, fishponds. Currently, these ponds are not used for their intended purpose and mode of land use has changed.

Subject of this paper are old isolated meanders in alluvial forest in the "Karamandol" to the right of the Osam river. Their total length is about 10,376 m wide bed of 25-35 meters. Their banks have a height of 1.5 to 3 meters and are planted with deciduous vegetation. After correction of the Osam River and spall old meanders in alluvial forest in the "Karamandol" are osusheni year.

All actions for recovery of hydraulic structures and construction of hydraulic connections will be made in real estate owned and municipal property. Influenced by hydration properties are also state and municipal property.

EXPECTED RESULTS

Recovered 9 numbers existing hydraulic structures.Construction and rehabilitation of hydraulic connections between the old dried up river beds and the main river.Extending the period of detention of the water level in the old river beds with a total length of approximately 18,000 meters in sub Kesikoru , Karamandol and blemish; Increased average water level .
