Create an audio/visual teaser that showcases the significance of the findings from the NSW Creative Industries Draft Industry Action Plan.

THE GOAL

THE MESSAGE

NSW CREATIVE INDUSTRIES Teaser Video

Creative Industries are a surprisingly broad and vital part of the Australian economy as well as being a profound positive contributor to our lifestyle and society.

‘Creative’ is not completely intangible or ‘airy fairy’. All ideas begin simple, but it’s the skills and experience of the NSW Creative Industries that gives it tangible value.

The Creative Industries also have the potential for both rapid and long term growth. Right now, most Creative Industries are in the process of redefining their business models for the 21st century and this provides a unique opportunity for NSW to establish itself as a global creative centre and an Asia Pacific leader in the future of Creative Industries.

*** All visuals are references only ***

The primary Target Audience are decision makers and influencers outside of the Creative Industries.

The secondary Target Audience is the general public - to raise awareness and support for the Creative Industries in NSW.

THE APPROACH

NSW CREATIVE INDUSTRIES Teaser Video

According to Bunzeck & Düzel, neurobiologists at University College London in 2006, there’s a specific area of the brain in all of us that’s hardwired to respond to novelty. It’s also directly linked to the brain’s learning and emotional centres.

This shows there’s a direct link between the unexpectedness of information as well as emotional impact with the the way the brain values and retains that information.

We will use the unexpectedness of some of the information in the Action Plan such as the fact that more people directly work in the NSW Creative Industries than those employed within the NSW agriculture and mining industries combined.

Non creative audiences respond to facts, creative audiences respond to originality. This will be reinforced using cinematic vision and sound cues to trigger an emotional response.

Visuals will highlight the people and locations in and around NSW.

THE IDEA

The teaser will start small and grow consistently as a metaphor for the goals of the Action Plan. We will shoot original footage for the teaser to support existing material available and the teaser will have a full sound design, mix and colour grade.

THE STRUCTURE

NSW CREATIVE INDUSTRIES Teaser Video

We start on a small child scribbling blue crayon across a blank white page (blue to match the branding of the Creative Industries IAP).

We start to introduce the facts as well as broadening the perspective of what the Creative Industries include (eg. Fashion & Industrial Design, Built Environments and Publishing)

We visually reinforce the facts and use clean animated graphics (based on the style of the Creative Industries IAP) with movement designed to give a sense of momentum. Vision will include real creatives at work - from small businesses to global players. NSW Creative Industries are world class, with a talent base disproportionate to our population and geography. Particular emphasis will be placed on the current value and potential growth of indigenous and regional creative industries.

The soundscape will simultaneously build - beginning with just the sound of the crayon scribbled on paper, then building towards a rich and complex soundscape)

Technological changes are driving exponential growth in global consumption of the output of Creative Industries and the evidence suggests this trend will continue into the forseeable future. The NSW Creative Industries have the opportunity to take more of that global appetite and turn that into long term economic growth for the state.

The teaser culminates in a fresh and dramatic shot of the Sydney Opera House as the pinnacle of creative achievement and home to almost every creative art form. Fade to final graphic:
