INTRODUCTION

CLC (CELLULAR LIGHTWEIGHT CONCRETE):

It is a version of lightweight concrete that is produced like normal concrete under ambient

conditions. It is produced by initially making a slurry of Cement +Sand + Fly Ash

(constituting 26% - 34 % content) + water, which is further mixed with the addition of pre-

formed stable foam in an ordinary concrete mixer under ambient conditions. The mixture is

either poured or pumped into assembled moulds of blocks or formwork of reinforced

structural elements or poured onto flat roofs or voids for thermal insulation or filling. The

foam imparts free flowing characteristics to this slurry due to ball bearing effect of foam

bubbles enabling it to easily flow into all corners and compact by itself in the

moulds/forms without requiring any kind of vibration or compaction.

1.2 MARKET

Construction industry boom can be seen in almost all the developing countries.

The demand for supplies is high; supply of raw material like bricks, cement, sand, iron and

steel, builder hardware, paints, manpower and everything else regarding construction.

The construction industry is also very vital because anybody who is concerned with

economic development these days highlights the need for infrastructure development. The

infrastructure is in the form of roads, ports, buildings, factories and so on, and all of them

involve construction.

Bricks remain one of the most important building materials in the country. Brick making is a

traditional industry in India, generally confined to rural areas. Notably, the Indian brick

industry, with more than 1Lakh production units producing about 100 billion tons a brick

annually, is the second largest brick producer in the world after that of China. The industry

has an annual turnover of more than Rs. 10,000 Crores and, very importantly, it is one of the

largest employment generating industries, employing millions of workers. However, brick

making is an energy intensive process as fuel costs account for almost 30% of the

production cost.

The country consumes about 180 billion tons bricks, exhausting approximately 340 billion

tons of clay every year and about 5000 acres of top soil land is made unfertile for a long

period. The demand supply gap for bricks is estimated to be 80 billion tons for the year

2006 thus leaving a scope for establishment of more bricks units across India.

Despite all initiatives to introduce alternative walling materials like cellular light weight

concrete, BLOCKS, compressed earth blocks, concrete / stonecrete blocks, and fly ash

bricks, it is envisaged that BLOCKS and cellular light weight concrete bricks would still

occupy the dominant position in the foreseeable decade.

The excellent mechanical properties and durability of CLC Blocks enlarges its scope for

application in building construction and development of infrastructure, construction of

pavements, dams, tanks, under water works, canal lining and irrigation work etc.

Enormous quantities of CLC and fly ash are available in and around thermal power

stations in all the states.

1.4 DURABLOCK–CLC Blocks Advantages

CLC Bricks have excellent compressive strength in excess of regular clay bricks /

solid blocks, guarantees min. Compressive strength of 3N/mm2.

Bending strength is 15 to 20% of compressive strength.

CLC Bricks density is 800kg/m2 which reduces dead load on structures.

Huge saving in foundation and structure savings upto 30% on beam costs.

Good earth quake resistance properties.

Easy handling. Lightweight CLC is easy to transport and stock.

Faster construction. CLC blocks are easily cut to custom size requirements on size

using basic power-tools.

Huge saving of labour. Faster construction directly relates to reduction in labour

requirement.

CLC Bricks offer highest thermal insulation making cool summers and warm

winters.

Reduced Air conditioning expenses. Air-conditioning energy requirements can be

5 times lower than conventional structures.

CLC Bricks are fire resistant.

Non toxic fumes in case of fire.

Excellent acoustic barrier. More peace of living, No disturbance from your

neighbour’s home theatre.

Highly accurate and smooth walls reduction in plastering.

Opt for any finish on walls – external plastering, tiling, cladding, internal tiling,

dry lining, spray plaster or anything of your choice.

1.5 INVESTMENT

The project calls for an investment of Rs. 120.00 Lakhs to set up a unit to manufacture 130

TPD of CLC Bricks and 120 TPD of BLOCKS with 300 days of operations. The plant and

machinery required for the project are indigenously available.

FAQ

Is CLC cellular light weight concrete block similar to AAC block?

No. Even though they appear to be similar, They are totally different products. Water

Absorbtion of AAC is 200% More than that of CLC blocks. Broken blocks of CLC can be

used for Sunken Filling but due to more water absorbtion in AAC it should be avoided. The

CLC is cured in conventional methods and the AAC is through Steam Curing, which makes

the Compressive strength final in AAC , but CLC like normal concrete strength increases over

time.

Can you supply DURABLOC on time?

The production capacity is 15,000 cum per annum / 1,500 blocks per day and we are in

a position to supply and support project of any size anywhere.

What is the sound reduction index of Durabloc ?

Durabloc blocks provide excellent sound absorption with a STC (Sound Transmission

Class) rating of 44. Sound reduction index for Durabloc is 45 db for 200 mm thick walls.

Can we take electrical conduits or drill a nail on the surface?

Yes. You can do. The workability is good.

Should we soak and make the block wet before usage?

No. Soaking and wetting of the CLC are not needed. Slight wetting is sufficient.

How should we lay the CLC?

The laying of block may be started either at the corners first or it may be started from one

end and proceed to the other direction. The first course of the cellular block masonry shall

be laid with greater care, making sure that it is properly aligned, leveled and plumbed, as

this may assist the mason in laying succeeding courses to obtain a straight and truly

vertical wall. The joint thickness shall be 10mm.

How to cut the CLC block?

Do not use chisel and Hammer for chase cutting. Use saw or any mechanized cutting tool for

cutting.

Is Durabloc fire-resistant?

Durabloc has high fire resistance rating of atleast 4 hrs and more.

Tin No: 33501925897 CST No: 1090220

How to use mortar in CLC block?

The mortar shall not be spread so much ahead of the actual laying of the units that it tends

to stiffen and lose its plasticity there by resulting in poor bond.

Lay 10 mm thick cement mortar uniformly over bed.

Wet on all sides by using a tray filled with 20/25 mm water and place them one by one and

press it firmly to have proper bond.

Fill the joints between the blocks before laying the mortar. Two 10 mm square rods can be

placed on both the sides of the block to obtain uniform joint.

Ensure all the surfaces of the block which come in contact with cement mortar are wet to have

proper bonding.

What are the cost benefits of using Durabloc CLC Blocks?

Durabloc Blocks reduces the dead load significantly and also ensures less usage of steel and

concrete. It requires lesser number of joints, which results in saving of jointing material, time

and labour.

What are the main advantages of CLC Blocks over other building materials?

CLC is lightweight, highly fire resistant, has excellent thermal insulation value, is decay and

rot proof, has good sound reduction properties and is cost effective. CLC performs well in

seismic situations and high wind areas. Building with CLC can reduce the quantity of

materials used and labor needed to build a building.
