PREFACE

I want to express my experience and practical knowledge that I gained during the summer training at

GODEREJ. It was my first experience when I went to the market not to buy any thing but to do the survey and to promote the security equipment in the market. The basic need of survey is to ensure about the policies and the strategies in the market. On first day I was nervous, but because of the good image of the GODREJ in the market the people attended us positively. Many people came themselves to us for knowing the details about the product.

For accomplishment of the project report I daily think about the conditions and views and then I used to compose the whole thing on computer. In making the project report theoretical knowledge was needed more than the practical which was given to us by my professors in our institutes. In the market the experience relating to the practical knowledge was very good which realized us about the real conditions of the marketing.

The project flows logically consisting of market research, data collection method and questionnaire. It hoped that the findings and the suggestions will help the company, confidently to formulate its strategy in comparison to its competitors. I have enjoyed our summer training at GODREJ and have learnt lots of new things, which will be helpful to us during our work in any organization. We thank GODREJ for giving this opportunity at their office and being good to us all the time.

Company Profile

J. N. GODREJ Chairman’s Message:-

“The corporate landscape is undergoing several sweeping changes and Indian companies across sectors have begun to pursue growth both within the country as well as overseas. Today, as India competes in an increasingly globalized economy, the Godrej Group is ready to play a major role in the Indian growth story”.

At Godrej, we have always successfully competed with MNCs in

India and abroad and kept the spirit of enterprise alive. This has been possible for various important reasons. The Godrej name is synonymous with trust. It is a well-documented fact that ‘trust’ lowers transaction costs, corruption, and bureaucracy. Thus, ‘trust’ is a source of significant competitive advantage to us.

I firmly believe that our highest standards of corporate governance, modern management and use of cutting edge technology and long-term, performance-focused strategies will be the key drivers in future years.

Milestones:-

Ardeshir Godrej (1868-1936) was the first Indian manufacturer to displace well entrenched foreign brands from the market. The word GODREJ, etched into the metal of his locks, became a symbol of self-reliance for the generations that followed.

With each new product Ardeshir changed perceptions of industry in India. He produced the first finest security equipment, and stunned the world by creating soap from vegetable oils. What started as a dream had become a movement, but it was left to another man to carry it forward.

On 7th May, 1897, Ardershir Godrej gave up law and took up lock making. Godrej, was established at Lalbaug, Mumbai. This was the holding company of the Godrej Group. On 3rd March, 1932, it was incorporated with limited liability. Even though Boyce was a business partner for a limited period only, his name was retained for legal purposes. To know more about Godrej.

The Godrej Name displaced well established foreign brands from the Indian market. The name 'Godrej' engraved into the shiny metal of the Godrej Locks came to be known as a symbol of self

reliance, trust-worthiness, assertiveness and progressiveness for a new generation of Indians.

Ardeshir Godrej's relentless quest of self-reliance made him explore newer avenues of opportunities. Manufacturing Soap was one of them. In the year 1918, Godrej Soaps Limited came into being. In 1920, he revolutionized the Soap industry by manufacturing the first toilet soap purely from vegetable oils. Before that, animal fat was used in soap manufacture. For his achievement, Ardeshir Godrej was bestowed with praises from India and from foreign lands too.

17. Flap Barriers

The retractable panel pedestrian barrier is a user friendly access barrier developed for the fast processing of people in areas such as railway platforms, passenger terminals and sports stadium. A modular front panel concept allows adaptation to a large variety of ticket readers for railway station use, as well as customised designs for all sorts of card readers for the security industry.

Product Description

37

Page 38: Project Report Godrej

The pedestrian retractable barrier series type MPR is designed to control pedestrians entering or exiting restricted areas, usually under surveillance, in low security situations. Personal surveillance is therefore recommended as the barrier can be breached.

Two different models are available, the standard model has an aisle width of 520 mm and a wide lane disabled model has an aisle width of 990 mm.

The construction consists of sheet metal housings that can be extended with intermediate parts to a user-defined line configuration corresponding to the needs, e. g. in case of a high throughput.

The aisle is blocked by means of a retractable triangular wing made of acrylic glass or PUfoam. After an opening pulse the wing retracts into the housing, consequently the aisle is completely clear. It closes immediately after passage or after an adjustable runtime cycle.

The opening and closing runtimes are from 200 – 400 msec., dependent on the type of wing used.

Housing

The construction consists of different segments bolt together. The middle segment contains the controller and drive unit. The middle segment has two hinged locked doors providing optimum access to the controller and drive mechanism.

Various optional access control devices (such as card readers, finger print readers etc.) can be accommodated on a stainless steel fascia panel located at each end segment of the MPR.

The pedestrian retractable barrier, designed for indoor installations, is made of polished steel plate 430 stainless steel with protection class IP 32

Godrej Security Solutions now introduce the IRIS based access control solution that is easy to operate, accurate and doesn’t require to be touched.

Iris is a disc shaped film located at the front of the eyeball that contains very complex, random patterns that do not change during the lifetime of a person. Iris patterns differ from person to person and these patterns can be captured through an outside camera.

Iris recognition uses individual differences in the complex patterns found in the iris of the human eye to authenticate individual identities. Iris recognition is the most precise of all biometric identification systems. The false acceptance ratio is so low that the probability of falsely identifying one individual as another is virtually zero.

77

Page 78: Project Report Godrej

Suggestion

78

Page 79: Project Report Godrej

The Company should advertise its Security equipment as a result customer would aware about security solution.

Today Price based competition is skyrocketing so if it is possible that Company cut down its security equipments price.

During the survey I got the demand of Bullet proof door so I would like to suggest to the company provide these type of security solution.

The sales & marketing officer of the company should regular visit to these places so they can easily get the requirement of the customer regarding security solution.

Company should promote its security equipment through canopy.

Company should do mall activities once in a week because it is necessary to promote the high involvement security product.

79

Page 80: Project Report Godrej

Limitation80

Page 81: Project Report Godrej

Every research has it own limitation. It is not possible that a

research is accomplished without having bounding and limitation. There are always some short comings which come into the way of accomplishment of a particular research study. It is almost impossible for research to get away from it.

Following are the few limitation of the particulars research study.

In the particular research the study duration was limited to time of a few weeks, so having a limited time span of work on that project.

Some time the costumer does not reveal the correct information so biases come.

The life of the people in metropolitan cities is running so fast. They don’t have much time to give reply.

The administrator or security incharge of target places are not easily prepared to tell about the security information which they using.

This fieldwork is confined to a single city KANPUR only therefore study does not reveal the exact market condition.

Mostly people are not much aware about the advanced security equipment.

Human error is unavoidable.

We found most of the customers who purchase this Security Equipment were highly satisfied with the performance of the product as well as services which are providing by the company. We found only few complaints regarding GODREJ SECURE because the company is careful about their commitment; we also found that the company got tremendous response from the customer side.

The demand of the Security Equipment is become aggressive after the serial bomb blast in Kanpur on 13th May 2008. The sale of Security Equipment was so much high as compare ordinary days.

After completion of analysis we come on conclusion that maximum

respondents wants to secure their self from the various threats. On the basis of respondents I found that only manpower is not sufficient to prevent any kind of threats, so most of the respondents like to use both manpower and security equipment to secure their self. Most of hospital, religious & residential places still using both kinds of security measure against various threats.

Majority of the respondents (53%) think that burglary/theft is high fear in their running life. To protect their self from the burglary/theft threat they are using burglary alarm system, video door phone and safes and they are quite satisfied with their security solution performance which they are using.

As far as to protect the record/cash is concerned from the threat of fire maximum respondents using safe personal safe rather than bank locker and mechanical safe.

From the threat of fire which is common threat world wide so to protect their self they generally (78%) using Fire extinguisher and very few of them using fire alarm system. As far as their satisfaction is concerned (82%) of respondents are satisfied with this equipment.

Security measure against terrorism is concerned most of the respondents are using CCTV Cameras, some of respondents using door frame metal detector and rest of the respondents not using any type of security solution against Terrorism. And their satisfaction level towards the equipment which are using is 86%.

When I asked to the respondents that what else security threats could be possible according to their perception then I got following threat Rites, Incoming of unknown person, Pickpocket, Fear of danger animals and some of the respondents could not suggest about other kind of threats.

If we talk about their budget that how much they can spend to prevent their self against,

Less than 5000/- 5000/- to 10000/- 10000/- to 15000/- More than 15000/-

The project has been successfully completed and it is helped us to understand the mindset of the respondents and the ways that an organization should follow to always retain their customers.

This project can help the organization to get clear insight about the customer taste and preferences. Thus helping the organization to exist successfully in the business environment.
