Dales Residents' GroupProject ThistleDown - 2013 Mission

Page 2: Project Thistledown

What is the Mission?

To create an "area memory" and an engaged community

Page 3: Project Thistledown

To make sure we can respond to threats and problems

in a resource efficient, timely and targeted manner

Page 4: Project Thistledown

What will the system do?

It is designed to revolutionise the way we report issues and how our local reps respond to them

Page 5: Project Thistledown

It is all about making people accountable by using GIS to map incidents in real-time.

Page 6: Project Thistledown

but by anonymising the reporter, the location information and collating all the results together so we can view them over time

Page 7: Project Thistledown

Once we all know that we are being listened to, we will change our behaviours (hopefully) for the better

Page 8: Project Thistledown

As council resources are increasingly scarce it becomes both economically and ecologically logical

to only street clean where and when needed based on reports from residents

Page 9: Project Thistledown

Then streets which need a lot of cleaning are revealing to us what type of resident and density of building are in that street

Page 10: Project Thistledown

This is not something you can just switch on one day and expect to work.

Integrated Area Marketing Plan

Page 12: Project Thistledown

We can preempt graffiti by cleaning off the worst kind and putting our own

stenciled version there first.

Page 13: Project Thistledown

We can even link the SMS system to the Police text

number if the right message code is used.

An engaged high street

What sort of environment is possible on the Smithdown Road of 2013?

Page 21: Project Thistledown

We most definitely can make the Smithdown Road (high street) a social destination again - not just retail

Page 22: Project Thistledown

Encouraging community engagement by asking students to volunteer at Greenbank.com cafe to show older residents how to do things IT wise
