May 2016 Project update – Proposed permanent electronic message sign on Canterbury Road, Campsie The NSW Government is funding the installation of a permanent electronic message sign opposite Robertson Street as part of its $246 million Pinch Point Program, which aims to reduce traffic delays, manage congestion and improve travel times on Sydney’s major roads, particularly during weekday peak periods. The sign will provide eastbound road users with up-to-date information on traffic conditions and planned and unplanned incidents and events. Roads and Maritime Services sought feedback from the community and stakeholders on the proposal in December 2015. We thank everyone who took the time to consider the proposal and provide comments. We received feedback from the Canterbury City Council requesting that construction impacts were managed. In March 2016 we doorknocked businesses and residents and received no opposition to the proposal. After reviewing feedback, we have decided to proceed with the project without change. What happens next? The work will include: · Removing the existing sign panel and gantry walkway · Installing new brackets to hold both the existing and new sign panels · Lifting the sign panels into place · Relocating some overhead light cables underground · Testing of the signs. We have included a map to help explain the project’s location. The work will take six shifts to complete between Monday 9 May and Monday 6 June, excluding weekends and public holidays, weather permitting. Our working hours will be from 9pm to 5am. We will also work day shifts from 7am to 5pm between Mondays and Friday, excluding weekends. How will the work affect you? There will be some noise associated with this work. We will make every effort to minimise its impact by carrying out the noisiest work during the day and before 11pm.
