SITE The 41,400 sq.m forest site, along side the Kosi River, is situated in the ‘Corbett National Wild Life Reserve’ located North East of India in the state of Uttaranchal. It is one of the few places where tigers remain in large numbers & come to quench their thirst occasionally along the banks of the river. • The site has dense woods of Mango, Eucalyptus, Rubber, Silver Oak, Flame of the Forest Guava, Pine and Bamboo trees. • There is a steep drop of 11m to the river along the edge where the existing resort facilities are situated. REQUIREMENT AND PROGRAM The client wanted to expand his existing facilities by adding: 1) A fine Dining Restaurant 2) An amphitheater 3) A Health Spa 4) Eight luxury self-contained cottages. • The project also involved the refurbishment of the existing cottages having 32 rooms. DESIGN RESOLUTION New Structures • To create spaces that blend seamlessly into the environment. • Use the natural contours and vegetation of the site to dictate circulation and built space. • Merging the boundary between internal and external spaces. • Use of free forms which blend with and meander around the landscape forming intimate spaces within the structures built. • Maintaining views of the river and beyond. • Setting of the project to be in a Vernacular Indian traditional background with increased use of local materials – Natural stone, rough local wood, pottery, tribal artifacts and adobe building construction. • Project when completed to look integral with existing facilities and not dated. • Creating a jungle experience that educates the customers on the environment. Refurbished Buildings • Up gradation of existing facilities to create a richer experience at Infinity Resorts. • Have additions with minimal alterations in the existing facilities. 5 KOSI RIVER KEY PLAN N INFINITY WILDLIFE RESORTS 0 2 6m 0 6 18ft
