Early Care and Education Learning Collaborative
Nemours is currently funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under a five‐year Cooperative Agreement (1U58DP004102‐00) to support states/localities in launching early care and education learning collaboratives focused on childhood obesity prevention.

Goals
• To improve healthy eating, physical activity and screen time practices in early care and education (ECE) settings.
• To increase support for breastfeeding in ECE settings.• To improve ECE environments, related policies and programs to support these goals.

• Imbed the information in the systems approach. • Funding New Jersey Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NJACCRRA) to train Quality Improvement Specialists (QIS) on Best Practices regarding nutrition, physical activity, breastfeeding support and screen time. – Head Start– Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies– Department of Education

• Strengthen school wellness policies and facilitate policy implementation and monitoring in schools through strong wellness councils.
• Involve all students in both PE programs and other forms of physical activity throughout the school day.

• 32 small grants supporting community partnerships in 2014
• Healthy eating and active living strategies– Healthy eating: vegetable gardens, faith‐based wellness policies, establishing a farmers’ market, vending machine options
– Active living: bike rack installation, Safe Routes to School programs, walking audits, play street programs
• 2015 applications are in review!
