About me and Ed Taylor Design Ltd.
(Above) Exhibiting my designs at Venturefest before speaking.
(Left) Accepting my award at Engineering Inspirations.
I‟m a 19-year old product designer from North
Yorkshire. In 2010 I won the Engineering Inspi-
rations award and Sir George Cayley Cup for
the custom guitar I designed and manufac-
tured myself. I have since gone on to develop
an entire range of guitars aimed towards the
professional musician which I am aiming to
launch early next year.
Last year I incorporated Ed Taylor Design Ltd
and have been working hard developing a vari-
ety of designs and am now in a position where
they are ready to be brought to market. My
first product that will be available is a range of
CNC machined billet aluminium wall clocks,
the first small run is currently in production
and they will be available for sale very soon.
Everything I design whether it be guitars,
clocks or ceramics I try to make completely
unique and different from what‟s already avail-
able. Using CAD technology to it‟s full capa-
bilities I produce designs that are exciting and
fresh, balancing complex shapes with minimal-
istic forms. I am inspired by clean lines in de-
sign and quality, providing form and function.
As well as progressing my company I am cur-
rently a student at York St John University
studying Product Design. I am also a STEM
Ambassador. STEM (Science Technology Engi-
neering and Maths) is an organisation put to-
gether to help children in the UK understand
the importance of the 4 STEM subjects and to
promote them into a related profession.
This year I was the pre-dinner speaker (and ex-
hibitor) at the large business expo Venturefest
and I was also the keynote speaker at the “Big
Bang” competition held in York at the Minster.
My website is currently in development and
will be put online shortly as to coincide with
the launch of my clock designs. Full engineer-
ing drawings, images and a digital version of
this brochure are available upon request.

- Unique design: Qube and Sigma are all about standing out and being unique. They
use a creative internal handle design and bold yet simple shapes to make beautifully formed ceramics. - Reduced breakages: Exposed and vulnerable, a cup‟s handle is it‟s weakest spot.
The clever internal handle designs mean Qube and Sigma have no exposed or extruding parts that are
likely to be broken. For the hospitality and catering industry breakages is a major concern. Offering a de-
sign that is not only amazingly stylish but also helps to keep overheads down is an effective product.
- Ultra-chic and contemporary style: Qube and Sigma are
ceramics that are meant to appeal to a younger audience that are bored with fancy patterns and tradi-
tional shapes. Qube ceramics are modern and proud to be so. They are meant to fit in with the new wave
of contemporary hotels, bars and restaurants just as much as in modern home kitchens and also the stu-
dent market.
- Storage: Qube ceramics vastly improve storage capabilities as they stack in their own space
and have no extruding handles. They improve the aesthetics of stacked ceramics and turn them into a
piece of art. Cluttered coffee machines are a thing of the past. - Stability: When conducting market research I realised stability was a key issue overlooked
in many ceramic designs. Creating a cup with a large footprint and low centre of gravity allows for less
spills, breakages and potential accidents as well as better stability when stacked.
5 I have put this brochure together to introduce my concept for Qube ceramics. This is a range of contemporary
products made to fit in with current chic design trends whilst being different from any other type of tableware.
Qube ceramics is made up of two distinct designs; Qube and Sigma. Both are linked together by these 5 criteria:
Unique design
“Once a thing‟s been done, it‟s been done... Looking backwards for inspiration,
copying the past — how is that rock „n‟ roll? Do something of your own.
Start something new.”
— John Lennon
Large Cappuccino mug, Regular Cappuccino cup, and Espresso cup.
Qube turns a new corner in ceramic design, with their square, minimalist,
Bauhaus–inspired styling they challenge conventional ceramics head on. We
are bored with the same old traditional ceramics and think it‟s time for some-
thing fresh and exciting.
Qube differentiates itself not by having a new logo or floral pattern but by
having a completely new and refreshing design. Fusing both form and func-
tion together as one.
Qube has been designed with both the home market and the hospitality and
catering sector in mind. The ultra-chic look creates a striking impression and
is designed to be at home in the most contemporary and upmarket restau-
rants, bars, coffee houses, hotels and homes.
Their square shape and integrated handle keeps the footprint of the cup to a
minimum, this combined with the unique stacking design makes Qube the
ultimate range of ceramics for storage solutions. Qube will transform the top
of your coffee machine from a mess of cups and saucers into a piece of art
and a talking point for your guests or customers.
The unique integrated handle allows for reduced handle breakages com-
pared with normal cups and mugs. Qube can be stacked in different combi-
nations to allow you to make your own piece of art.
Qube is ceramic that appeals to the younger generation sick of the same old
cliché shapes, this is a revolution. Join us and corner your coffee.
Viva la revolution!
This is the next generation of ceramics. We are here to liven things up, Come join us, Corner your coffee.

Be qube
The Dog and Gun is a small boutique restaurant, bar and hotel situated in Potto. After showing them my
Qube prototypes they would like to replace their current ceramics with them once they are in production.
It was interesting to find out that they are having the same problems that other restaurants and hotels are
having with their current ceramic cups and how Qube will solve these problems for them.
“If you have a look at my machine the cups aren‟t
stacking properly, it‟s a mess — with Qube I think
I will get double the capacity on my machine.”
“The flat surfaces of the Qube range are perfect for branding, it‟s almost like a business
card staring at you.
Stacking is key on top of a coffee machine, if you have a look at my machine all the
cups aren‟t stacking properly, it‟s a mess and it creates a lot of noise with them clatter-
ing about when you try and take one off. Handles easily chip and fall off because
they‟re sticking out and are so vulnerable, in fact we have a breakage bin which we
have to empty every two weeks. So Qube will help solve these problems with it‟s inter-
nal handle and stackable features.
I think I will get double the capacity of cups on my coffee machine too, this will save
a lot on my shelves in the kitchen, at the moment the shelves are absolutely shocking.
It‟s very contemporary as well which is ideal for the Dog and Gun, we aren‟t olde
worlde we are much more modern.
The other products you‟ve designed are interesting too., the biggest expense in a coffee
is the milk, our milk jugs always come back from the table with lots left, so your por-
tion control milk jugs are perfect. Also I think the pepper grinders are very stylish.”
— Steve Irvine, Owner
There is enormous potential for developing the Qube range. For example, teapots, plates, sugar bowls etc. But there is also scope to expand Qube into other
areas such as glassware and other items such as pepper grinders. Here I have listed just some of the products I have designed for use in the Qube range:.
These portion control milk jugs are designed
specifically for hotels and restaurants where
milk wastage is a big problem. The jugs are the
same dimensions as the Qube espresso cups
which allow them to provide the perfect por-
tion of milk and also to be both stacked to-
gether when not in use. For the home market
they will be larger and available in the same
dimensions as the cappuccino Qube cups.
Mini twist-top salt and pepper mills are de-
signed to give a chic new look to restaurants‟
tables and home kitchens and also create a
talking point with customers and guests.
They have a ceramic bottom half, die-cast
stainless steel spacer ring and a reclaimed
teak top which is CNC routed. These will be
available in both a white and black glaze.
There is no place with space at more of a premium
than behind a bar. Neat perfect-measure shot glasses
make a statement about your bar and when stacked the
striking image makes them perfect to display as a sculp-
ture.
There are many other items of glassware that Qube
could expand into. Qube Latte glasses would complete
the coffee and tea line up of the range, but items like
shot and highball glasses could make Qube an effective
product in the barware category.
This teapot is the perfect accompaniment to the Qube
cups. It shares a similar albeit larger proportioned spout
to the milk jug. This helps the range to have a uniform
style throughout. (Please note this teapot design is still
in it‟s early stages of development).

Style Simplicity
Sigma stands alongside the Qube line-up as an ele-gant, chic and minimalistic range. Along with a
visually striking design it has many features which
make it extremely practical for both home and com-
mercial use. It is the ultimate combination of both form and function.
Chic Aesthetics: Unique stand-out design
and contemporary styling creates a beau-
tiful product that looks just as striking
when stacked together as it is on it’s
own.
Reduced breakages: The integrated handle
creates a cup with no vulnerable extru-
sions, minimising breakages and cost.
Storage: Stackable design and no protrud-
ing handles means Sigma can be stored
neatly and in less space than competi-
tors.
Stability: Large footprint and low centre
of gravity makes Sigma stable. So whether
they are used first class on an airline,
on your superyacht or just being carried
on a tray in a coffee shop, improved sta-
bility reduces spills and accidents.
Features
These cups are just a taster of what will be
available in the Sigma range. More products
are in development with the idea to have a
similar line-up as the Qube range.
