• This week, Walmart is promoting smart HD televisions and Super Bowl snacks ahead of the big game. During this week last year, the retailer featured electronics in its “Game Time” promotion, and highlighted merchandise to help customers prepare for tax season.
• Last year, the retailer focused only on gadgets and electronics during this week; this year, the main focus is food, and the current promo features many recipes and serving suggestions.
GAME TIME
• This week, JCPenney’s three-day sale features 40%–50% off Xersion family activewear. Last year this week, the retailer promoted the same line of apparel, but select items were 50% off.
• This year, the retailer is offering an extra 20% off when customers use their JCPenney credit card, or an extra 15% off with any form of payment, along with an extra 10% off select merchandise in a variety of departments.
BIG BUYS
• Target is promoting newer versions of the same merchandise it featured during this week last year. The retailer is offering discounted smart LED televisions, NFL Xbox games and Xbox consoles in time for the Super Bowl this weekend, as well as Blue-ray movies.
• The retailer promoted its “Biggest Baby Sale of the Year” during this week last year, but pushed the sale a week earlier this year.
