Branding

• All promotional material should reflect the brand identity of your day out and should

therefore include your logo and/or slogan.

Posters and leaflets are used to deliver information in different ways:

• Posters are used to deliver information quickly and from a distance. The information

needs to be clear and easy to understand by a casual passer-by.

• Leaflets and brochures are used to provide more detailed information. The front

cover should be attractive, to encourage a passer-by to pick it up. Inside the

information should be clear and easy to understand.

Grids:

• Professional designers use grids to layout their print material. Grids are used to line

up text and images, which makes the information neater and easier to read.

Target Audience:

• Remember your target audience. Your choice of text, image and layout should

appeal to 9-11 year olds.

Text & images:

• Use the text and graphics to reflect the fun elements of your day out. Be selective.

Narrow your choice of text and graphics otherwise you will confuse your audience

with too much information. We used images rather than text to highlight the fun

activities in Bangor.

Text:

• Remember to check your spelling and punctuation.

• They're shouldn’t be too much text on a poster, if you want to use a lot of text, think

about making a leaflet or brochure instead. Your sentences should be short and

snappy. If you have a long list of items, try using bullet points.

Font Style:

• Think about the font you're going to use. Fonts can be used to add meaning or

improve the message of the words. You can use fonts to reflect the theme of your

day out. Experiment with different fonts but remember you must be able to read it.

Font Size:

• Remember larger = more important. Use font size to reflect the importance of the

text. The more important the text, the larger the font so the largest font size should

be used for the title.

Graphics:

• Remember larger = more important. The biggest image will be the most eye-

catching. It should be the most interesting or important activity or destination. For

our poster, we chose the image of the swans as it's an activity that's unique to

Bangor.

Plan:

• Before you start, work out what you want the poster or leaflet to tell people. Then

think about how you are going to say it; will you use text or an image or both? Draw

out a rough layout.
