What is Propaganda?

Propaganda is defined as a systematic form of persistent persuasion that attempts to influence the emotions, attitudes, opinions, and actions of specified target audiences for ideological, political or commercial purposes through the controlled transmission of one-sided messages (which may or may not be factual) via mass and direct media channels.

Why Propaganda During Conflicts???Propaganda attempts to evoke an emotional response that can bemobilized to achieve a nation’s goals. In general it attempts to deliver a focused message through:

• Selective use of information• Appeals to emotions• Use of symbols

Indoctrination:

Propaganda is usually carried out in campaigns around an issue and is one form of repeating a message over and over to the point that the people stop questioning the nation or government’s objectives.
