    Automatic Calibration

    Measurement data is required

Auto calibration generates best settings for models/materials in order to

    match with measurement data

If measurement data has limited accuracy, auto calibration will lead to wrong

    results

Superposed measurements (of several transmitters) are not supported. For

each transmitter an individual measurement route must be available.

Measurement data can be either Path Loss (dB) or Power (dBm)

Preferably using measurement data in ASCII file format

Using a median filter in order to remove effects due to fast fading before the

    data is imported is recommended

    Step 1: Measurement Data Import

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

6/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 6

    Automatic Calibration

Import of measurements if coordinates for each measured point are

    available:

It is an ASCII file expected with one line per measurement value and columns for

    longitude, latitude and measured value

Open result file in ProMan and use File > Import Data or select File > New

    Measurement File.

Select first or second radio button in the import dialog (depending if coordinates

should be converted to another system or not)

After selecting OK the import starts

    Step 1: Measurement Data Import

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

7/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 7

    Automatic Calibration

Import of measurements if no coordinates for measured points are

    available:

It is an ASCII file expected with one line per measurement value and only one

    column

Open result file in ProMan and use File > Import Data or select File > New

    Measurement File.

Select third radio button in the import dialog

After selecting OK a poly line can be drawn on the map and the measurement

values are assigned to the poly line

    Step 1: Measurement Data Import

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

8/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 8

    Automatic Calibration

Measurement data can be automatically aligned to a line drawn by the user

(Edit >Align data along a line)

Modification of measurement data possible with drawing tools (Edit > Edit

    Data)

    Step 1: Measurement Data Import

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

9/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 9

    Automatic Calibration

    Step 2: Measurement Data Assignment

The measurement data imported in the step before (*.fpp, *.fpl) has now to

be assigned to a transmitter (Transmitter dialog, button Measurements)

Mind the correct settings of power, frequency and antenna pattern

    (orientation, type, gain)

    Only one measurement route (resp.

file) can be assigned to a

    transmitter

    The measurement file must not

    contain a superposition of

    measurements from different sites

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

10/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 10

    Automatic Calibration

Calibration files are generated automatically if measurement data was

    assigned to a transmitter

Calibration files (*.cal) are saved in the result folder defined in project

    settings

Mind the correct project settings in ProMan:

Adaptive resolution of prediction models not supported

    Propagation paths must be activated

Coordinates of measurement data must match to prediction area defined

    in ProMan

After prediction is completed calibration files will be available on hard disk

Step 3: Generation of Calibration Files

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

11/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 11

    Automatic Calibration

Automatic calibration is included in ProMan (Computation > Auto Calibration)

All selected calibration files have to be computed with the same model and in

    the same environment

Add calibration files to the list

    Step 4: Run Automatic Calibration

    General Settings allow the

    configuration of threshold,

    etc.

    Model Settings allow the

    configuration of the model

    parameter ranges. These

    settings depend on the modelused.

    Automatic Calibration

Auto Calibration can be started with Start button

After completion, the results are displayed in a separate window

The best value for each model parameter is shown (together with the

number of rays used for calibration of this parameter)

Statistical evaluation is presented below the results

    Step 4: Run Automatic Calibration

  • 5/26/2018 Propagation Calibration

13/20 by AWE Communications GmbH 13

    Automatic Calibration

The optimized parameters determined by the auto calibration module

have to be entered manually into the project settings in ProMan

Prediction has to be computed again for consideration of new parameters

After prediction was recomputed the new results can be compared to

    measurement data

Evaluation of accuracy with mean valueand standard deviation of difference

between prediction result and measurement data

Open prediction result in ProMan and select Edit > Subtract Data >Value and

select the measurement file in the new dialog box

The differences are shown on the screen

Statistical evaluation can be shown with the selectionAnalysis > Information

    Step 5: Verify Accuracy
