CAUTION: NEVER RUN THE ENGINE WITH RECEPTACLECONNECTED TO THE OPTIONAL ENGINE COOLANT HEATER. AFLOW CHECK VALVE STOPS COOLANT FLOW THROUGH THEHEATER WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THE HEATER WILL BEDAMAGED IF CONNECTED TO THE HEATER RECEPTACLE WHILETHE ENGINE IS RUNNING.

NOTE: In temperatures below 40 °F (4.4 °C), ensure that in units with anengine fuel heater option, heaters are operating 10 minutes prior to enginestarting and turned off before ENGINE STOP/RUN switch is placed in theRUN position.

NOTE: In temperatures below 40 °F (4.4 °C), ensure that units with anengine coolant heater option are connected to engine external power source 1hour prior to engine starting and operation.

In order to ensure safe, reliable operation, perform the following checks prior to operating the tractor:

1. Ensure the park brake switch is applied (set to ON).

2. Walk around the tractor and inspect it for damage or missing equipment.

3. Check for damaged or under-inflated tires. Check that cold tire pressure is 130 psi(896.3 kPa). Look for cuts and cracks in the tire’s sidewalls and for foreign objects in thetread.

7. Check that the fire extinguishers are in place and fully charged .

8. Look underneath the tractor for signs of leaking coolant, hydraulic fluid, transmission fluid,or lubricating oil. If significant leaks are found, repair them before using the unit for regualaroperation.

9. Check the engine oil.

WARNING: DO NOT LOOSEN OR REMOVE THE RADIATOR CAPWHEN THE COOLANT IS HOT. HOT COOLANT UNDER PRESSURECAN SPRAY OR BOIL OUT, CAUSING SEVERE BURNS.

10. Check that the engine coolant level is approximately 1-1/2 in (4 cm) below top of radiator fillneck. If not, add coolant as necessary, being careful not to overfill. Visually check forcoolant leaks.

11. Inspect the engine compartment for loose hardware, loose wires, and leaking lines or fittings.

12. Check the hydraulic fluid level in the sight glass on the hydraulic reservoir. The sight glass isslightly above eye level on the driver’s side of the vehicle between the front and rear axles. Avery low fluid level indicates a serious leak in the system. If that is the case, find the leak andrepair it immediately.

13. Check the operation of the hazard flasher, stoplights, taillights, headlights, backup lights, anddash panel lights.

14. Check the fuel level.

NOTE: By keeping the fuel tank as full as possible, the tendency formoisture to condense on the inner surfaces of the fuel tank can be minimizedor eliminated. Top off the fuel tank at the end of the day’s operation as partof the post-operation maintenance routine.

3. Transmission Range Selection

(a) The transmission selector is an electronic control unit with a stick type selector.There is a forward and reverse selector side for the transmission selector. The selectorcontrol normally resides in the neutral position. The desired direction of travel isalways selected starting from the neutral position. Forward gears are selected bydepressing the button on top of the shifter joystick and pushing it forward. Pushingthe joystick to the right will up-shift and pushing it to the left will down shift. Thedesired gear can be observed on the gauge on the dash. Reverse is done in theopposite manner. Depressing the button on top of the joystick and pulling back on it,will select Reverse 1. To up-shift, follow the same procedures as for selecting aforward gear. Note there are 4 forward speeds and 2 reverse speeds.

(b) The ZF Powershift transmission must be manually shifted into the desired gear. Usethe gear most appropriate for the conditions. Shift to the next higher speed when thetop speed in any particular gear is reached. Do not tow farther than 6.2 miles (10 km)or faster than 6 mph (10 km/hr). Only tow aircraft in first or second gear.

(c) Generally, up shifting and down shifting is best accomplished by shifting through thenormal sequence of speeds. Downshifting will produce a braking effect, unless theengine is stopped. In that case, no braking will occur.

(d) Stop the tractor before shifting into any reverse speed.

CAUTION: DO NOT COAST THE TOW TRACTOR IN NEUTRAL.DOING SO MAY RESULT IN SEVERE DAMAGE TO THETRANSMISSION.

CAUTION: NEVER SHIFT FROM ANY FORWARD GEAR TO REVERSEOR FROM REVERSE TO ANY FORWARD GEAR WHILE THETRACTOR IS IN MOTION. THE TRACTOR CAN BE DAMAGED ORSTOP SUDDENLY.

(e) Neutral (N). Select Neutral when starting the engine, when checking the tractor’saccessories, and when idling the engine for extended periods. Use NEUTRAL withthe parking brake set if leaving the tractor unattended with the engine running.

(f) 1-2-3-4 Range Selections. Occasionally, certain conditions make it necessary torestrict shifting to a lower range. In addition to more pulling power at lower speeds,these selections provide progressively greater engine braking for going down mediumgrades. (The lower the gear range, the greater the braking effect.)

WARNING: WHEN THE GT110 UNIT IS IN OPERATION, ALLPERSONNEL EXTERNAL TO THE VEHICLE NEED TO MAINTAIN ASAFE DISTANCE FROM FRONT AND REAR WHEEL WELLS TOAVOID CONTACT WITH THE WHEELS OR BECOME TRAPPEDBETWEEN THE VEHICLE FRAME AND THE WHEEL:

· SINCE THE GT110 CAN STEER WITH FOUR WHEELS, IT IS VERYAGILE AND CAN CHANGE DIRECTION / MOVE SIDEWAYSMUCH FASTER THAN A CONVENTIONAL ROAD VEHICLE;

· WHEN STEERING, THE WHEELS WILL PROTRUDE OUTSIDETHE WHEEL WELL;

· IN CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES, THE WHEELS MAY ALIGN FORSTRAIGHT AHEAD OR TURN LEFT / RIGHT EVEN WHEN THEVEHICLE IS STATIONARY.

THEREFORE, MAINTAINING A SAFE DISTANCE TO AVOIDCONTACT IS CRITICAL.

(a) The steering modes are operated through a Steering Logic Controller (SLC). The SLCcontains an LCD display and eight white buttons, with blue back lighthing, toconfirm the mode selected. On the GT110 unit, only the three left white buttons onthe top row are utilized (see Figure 2-13).

(b) When the Start/Run/Stop switch is moved from Stop to Run, the LCD display back-lighting will illuminate and “TUG Technologies Corporation” will be written in thedisplay for a period of about 3-5 seconds. Simultaneously, the (8) blue lights willilluminate for about 5 seconds. The company name will extinguish and two audiobeeps will be heard and all (8) lights will flash in synchronization.

(c) After the two audio beeps, seven of the (8) lights will extinguish and one will remainbrightly illuminated. The single blue light illuminated will be the TRACK (frontwheel steering) mode button because this is the default steering mode. If the rearwheels are not centered at this point, the light will be flashing. There are three waysto bring rear axle into center position.
