Proposal for the relevance for risk assessment ()
Even if the study is based on in vitro enzymatic activity, and therefore it is not
possible to extrapolate threshold doses useful to risk assessment, the paper proposes a
useful approach to compare animal and human toxicokinetic properties of BPA,
concentrating its attention on gender and inter-species differences. Data show that
several metabolic differences exist between species and genders in glucuronidation
of BPA in hepatic and in intestine (a newer end point) microsomes, suggesting that
accurate characterization of BPA toxicokinetics is critical to determining BPA target
doses and human susceptibility to low dose exposure.
