I. Report Overview This report is to investigate the information system (IS) used in E-Commerce activities of Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ). It gives a brief overview of the organization, its core business as well as its missions. It then describes the use of IS in the supporting activities of the company. ANZ’s website is evaluated and suggested to make some changes to improve. Furthermore, it examines the effectiveness of the current use of IS and the important role of IS in providing ANZ with competitive advantages. Finally, it evaluates the security, credit card transactions and ethical challenges of implementing and using IS in banking. There are some recommendations for ANZ to prevent the above problems mentioned at the end. II. I. Report Overview

This report is to investigate the information system (IS) used in E-Commerce activities of Australia

and New Zealand Banking Group (ANZ). It gives a brief overview of the organization, its core

business as well as its missions. It then describes the use of IS in the supporting activities of the

company. ANZ’s website is evaluated and suggested to make some changes to improve.

Furthermore, it examines the effectiveness of the current use of IS and the important role of IS in

providing ANZ with competitive advantages. Finally, it evaluates the security, credit card

transactions and ethical challenges of implementing and using IS in banking. There are some

recommendations for ANZ to prevent the above problems mentioned at the end.

II. Background Information

ANZ is a global banking and financial organization operating business in Australia, New Zealand

and throughout the South Pacific. The ANZ’s headquarters is located in Melbourne. Besides that, it

has employed 35,000 people (According to report 2009) and serves more than six million customers

around the world.

business, corporate and institutional clients:

Retail business: providing credit cards, mortgages, transaction banking, savings and deposits

and personal loans.

Commercial banking: Solutions to Business Banking, Small business and Commercial/ Agri

segments.

Wealth

Investment Insurance: E*Trade, Financial Planning, Insurance, Margin Lending and ANZ

Executors and Trustees.

Private Banking: Solutions to assets managements and financial planning to investments

2. ANZ missions:

In the next 5 years, ANZ aims to become a leading super regional bank. The profits achieved in Asia

Pacific region are set to be 20% of the Company’s earnings by 2012 whilst the existing business and

opportunities across Australia and New Zealand are also very focused on. ANZ’s growth targets are

based on four core capabilities: Customer focus; Marketing and Sales; Technology and Performance.

III. Report Detail

1. Goals & Objectives

Goal#1: Classification of the ANZ’s structure & Design type.

Objective #1.1: Classify and describe the key dimensions of ANZ’s structure using

appropriate terms and concepts.

Objective #1.2: Identify the current ANZ’s Design Type, Functional, Divisional, Hybrid,

Matrix, Network, and so on. Is it appropriate for the environment it is in? Should it alter its

design type and why? Demonstration required of their current design/organizational chart.

Goals#2: Key determinant and Influence on ANZ’s structure

Objective #1.1: Research and give the reason why ANZ has the present structure.

Objective #1.2: Identification and discussion the TECHNOLOGY concepts have

significance influence to ANZ’s structure.

Goals#3: Organisational effectiveness (OE)

Objective #1.1: Indentify the way effectiveness is evaluated in ANZ bank.

Objective #1.2: Approaches to measuring OE, competing values, balance score card

approach.

Objective #1.3: Evaluate the appropriateness of the method model they utilize.

Goals#4: Critical analysis of current problems and Solutions

Objective #1.1: Indentify and discuss about the current issue of ANZ.

Objective #1.2: Evaluation of how OE approach assists or hinders the ANZ in addressing

major performance problems.

The secondary research methods for achieving the goals and objects of this report will be:

Collect the existent information from ANZ’s website and documents, articles, newspapers to

describe clearly the ANZ’s structure and its technology concepts.

Find the current potential issues of technology and its influences into the ANS’s structure.

Besides that, giving the solution which hopefully to resolve that issues.

VI. Purposes and Aims of the case study research

- Opportunities to know and understand more about model organisational structure and others its

influences concepts into its structure.

- Research, analysis and apply the theories into real life. Based form that, comparing and to get out

the experiences about the differentiation and similarity between them.

- Improve more about academic researching, reading and writing skills in university level.
