Mengapa Pantai?Mengapa Pantai?
• Importance and uniqueness of the world’s coastal areascoastal areas.
• Several important and the used of terms: coastal area, planning, management, p g, g
• The boundary between the land and ocean is generally not clearly defined on a map, but
h h d loccurs through a gradual transition region• The transition region coastal zone or coastal

dinamis bervariasi dlm ruang & waktu garis pantai bergerak terus menerus membentukpantai bergerak terus menerus membentuk daerah interaksi laut dan darat
• Bagian lingkungan pantai yg jelas mempunyai ag a g u ga pa ta yg je as e pu yainteraksi kuat antara laut dan darat : beaches, coastal marshes, mangrove dan fringing reef
• Bagian lain yg jauh dari garis pantai tapiBagian lain yg jauh dari garis pantai tapi berperan penting dalam pembentukan pantai sungai

A system is an abstraction of the real world– A system is an abstraction of the real world– A schematization of reality (a set of elements & their interactions)– System elements are the basic entities of the system, containing
ll ti l t t th bl t b dd dall properties relevant to the problem to be addressed.
• Interactions are relationship between these elements (can be abstract or concrete)( )– Flow of information between group in the society– Flow of water and sediments from a river to the coast.

•• MengapaMengapa prosesproses pantaipantai? ? g pg p pp pp“It is hot in the room, I am thirsty! I am going to the canteen and have a glass of water”This is a fundamental characteristic of our way of thinking. In most cases we think “Insolution”, without asking what the reason is of being thirsty? Maybe situation in the room? What makes the situation in the room me thirsty? Is it the temperature, humidity, orWhat makes the situation in the room me thirsty? Is it the temperature, humidity, orsomething else? Taking a glass of water will not solve the “Real Problem”: it is only aremedy against the symptom (=thirsty) of the problem (= dry situation in the room). Aftertaking a glass of water and returning to the room I will have the same problem after sometime. The problem has not been solved! We keep circling in circles, because we think onlyin solutions and did not analyze the problem. If we would like to solve the real problem wey p phave to analyze the situation in the room. If it is the heat, maybe the room needs isolationor temperature control. In this way we do real problem solving and not symptomcombatment only (Diambil dari draft Manual Teknik Pantai DPU, 1997).
• Di Mesir, pembangunan bendungan Aswan High Damdan bendungan yang lain di Sungai Nile telah
b bk bl i k t i di D lt S imenyebabkan problem erosi ekstrim di Delta SungaiNile.

very slow – wave energy dissipated
crossing the wave-cut terrace.
– Cliffs become higher, meaning more material tomeaning more material to move.
