.. SEASON 1910. .

Conductor PROF. G. W. L. MARSHALL-HALL. Assistant Conductor - MR. F. DIERICH.

4HE Board of Management has pleasure in presenting herewith the Programmes for the season of

Marshall-Hall Concerts to be held during the present year, which are of exceptional quality and

interest. Two entirely new works are set down for performance during the year—the Symphony, Harold

in Italy, by Berlioz, and a Capriccio for Violin and Orchestra by Professor Marshall-Hall, which will serve

to introduce at these Concerts the talented Violinist, Mr. Le Plat. The Caisse Noisette Suite will be

performed for the first time at these Concerts. The Symphonies set down for performance comprise such

monumental works as the Second (D Major) and Third (E Flat Major) Eroica, of Beethoven, the Spring

Symphony of Brahms (No. 2), the Pathetic Symphony of Tschaikowski (No. 6), and the D Minor

Symphony of. Haydn, and in addition such popular numbers as The Siegfried Idyll, The .Tannhauser,

Oberon, Euryanthe, Der Freischutz and Leonora No. 1 Overture will be repeated.

A special programme has been provided for the Fifth Concert of the season which will be the 100th

Orchestral Concert conducted in this city by Professor Marshall-Hall, and it is hoped that a large and

enthusiastic audience will assemble on that occasion to greet our conductor.

The season will include six concerts, which will be given on Saturday afternoons at intervals of about

3 weeks, at the Melbourne Town Hall, commencing Saturday, 9th April.

The Board of Management desire to announce that the anonymous donor of the sum of £1,000,

with which the Lady Northcote Permanent Orchestra Trust-Fund was initiated, is Mr. A. E. J. Lee

formerly of Queen's Road, St. Kilda. Mr. Lee having left Australia and taken up his residence permanently

in England has, at the request of the Board, permitted his name to be disclosed. The Fund which he so

generously endowed is steadily growing, amounting at the present time to the sum of £1837/15/-, not

including substantial donations obtained through the generous assistance of Madame Melba and which will

be acknowledged in due course. The Management have to acknowledge the receipt of a kracious letter and

further donation of £50 to the Fund from The Lady Northcote who thus evidences her sustained interest in

musical development in Australia. The Board desires to renew its appeal to all music lovers for donations

to the fund, the income from which is yet insufficient to relieve the financial difficulties which hamper the

work of the Board and constantly threaten the regular maintenance of the concerts. The high standard

which has been attained, and which has gained for the Orchestra a reputation throughout the musical world

and the heartiest commendation of the great musical artists who have visited the City from time to time,

can only be continued if a large measure of support is granted by the public and all interested in the

advance of musical art. The money donated to this fund forms a valuable gift to the City as it is all

permanently invested in the hands of the Trustees, The Equity Trustees Coy. Ltd., and the income only

used to assist in maintaining the concerts. The concerts are not carried out for personal gain, the object

being entirely artistic and educational, and should there be any surplus after the expenses have been paid it

will be devoted entirely to the Permanent Fund.

The prices of admission have been fixed as follows :—Reserved seats and Balcony 5/-, Body of Hall

3/-, Area 2/-. Season tickets will be issued for Reserved Seats and Balcony, price £1/5/-, which will entitle

the holder (if desired) to the same seat at each of the concerts.

Applications for season tickets and all correspondence connected therewith should be addressed to

the Assistant Secretary, Mr. J. Sutton Crow, Mary St., Grace Park, Hawthorn. Tel. No. 1118 Hawthorn.

Season tickets may also be purchased at Allan's where the Box Plan will be opened to subscribers on

Monday, 21st March instant.
