I would like to use this brochure to introduceyou to the Utrecht chapter of the Dutch UnitedNations Student Association. DUNSA (Dutchname: SIB) is a unique student association,

and could be a valuable partner for yourcompany. We are a socially responsibleorganization that promotes its activities to abroad audience.

The history of DUNSA dates back to1947, when the Dutch Student Associationfor Federal World Government was founded.The name of the association later changed tosuit its politically independent character, andin 1982 the Utrecht chapter was established.DUNSA Utrecht has grown rapidly in recent

years and currently has over 250 members,many of which are actively engaged.

Every week, the association organizes afreely and publicly accessible lecture or debateabout an international subject, which is thenfollowed by a question and answer session. Inaddition, SIB organizes a broad spectrum ofinformative meetings and social activities.There are many ways in which you cansponsor us. This brochure provides you with

an overview of the association and itsobjectives, and I sincerely hope that you enjoyreading it!

In deze brochure stel ik u graag voor aan deUtrechtse Studentenvereniging voorInternationale Betrekkingen. SIB is een uniekestudentenvereniging, en zou als zodanig een

waardevolle partner voor uw bedrijf kunnenzijn. Wij zijn een maatschappelijk betrokkenorganisatie die haar activiteiten onder eenbreed publiek promoot.

De geschiedenis van SIB gaat terug totde oprichting van de NederlandseStudentenvereniging voor FederaleWereldregering in 1947. In 1982 werd eenaparte Utrechtse vereniging opgericht,ondertussen onder de huidige naam SIB, diebeter past bij haar politiek onafhankelijke

karakter. SIB-Utrecht bestaat momenteel uitruim 250 leden, kent een grote actieve kern enis snel groeiende.

Iedere week organiseert de verenigingeen gratis toegankelijke lezing of debatavondover een internationaal onderwerp, gevolgddoor vragen. Daarnaast kent de verenigingeen groot aantal informatieve, maar vooral ookgezellige activiteiten.

Er zijn vele mogelijkheden om ons op

financile of andere wijze te ondersteunen.Deze brochure geeft een indruk van wat SIBis en doet: ik wens u veel plezier bij het lezenervan!

Geschiedenis van de Vereniging

Op 30 november 1947 werd de NederlandseStudentenvereniging voor FederaleWereldregering opgericht. Omdat eenwereldregering wel erg hoog gegrepen was,

werd de naam in 1948 veranderd inNederlandse Studentenvereniging voorWereldrechtsorde. Daarnaast is devereniging sinds dat jaar is aan de VerenigdeNaties gelieerd. Dit verklaart dan ook onzeEngelse naam.

De vereniging veranderde haar naamlater in Studentenvereniging voorInternationale Betrekkingen, en groeide sterk,met name in de jaren 70. Daarom besloot menSIB op te splitsen in verschillende

verenigingen in diverse studentensteden.Op 12 maart 1982 werd de Utrechtse afdelingopgericht.

Ter gelegenheid van haar 25 jarigjubileum organiseerde SIB-Utrecht in 2007een groot congres: A Struggle for Peace. 600deelnemers beleefden een dag vol debatten,lezingen, workshops en documentaires in hethart van Utrecht. Met bijna veertig sprekers vanhoog niveau was deze dag een enorm succes.

History of the Association

The Dutch Student Association for FederalWorld Government was established onNovember 30th, 1947. Because theemergence of a world government was

rather idealistic, the name was changed in1948 to the Dutch Student Association forGlobal Legal Order. Since then theorganization has been aligned with the UnitedNations, which explains our English name.

The association subsequently changedits name and grew exponentially throughoutthe 1970s. A decision was then made to dividethe association into independent chapters ina number of cities. The Utrecht chapter wasestablished on March 12th, 1982.

In celebration of its 25th anniversary in2007, DUNSA Utrecht organized a largeconference: A Struggle for Peace. Some 600participants enjoyed a day of lectures,debates, workshops and documentaries inthe center of Utrecht, with almost 40 eminentspeakers helping to make the event anoverwhelming success.

De Dinsdagavond

Iedere dinsdagavond organiseert devereniging een lezing of debat over eeninternationaal onderwerp.

Onder de sprekers die SIB-Utrecht in de

afgelopen tijd heeft ontvangen bevinden zichJan Pronk, Dries van Agt, Mark Rutte enAmerika-deskundige Maarten van Rossem.Regelmatig wordt er een lezing verzorgd dooreen vertegenwoordiger uit het bedrijfsleven:woordvoerders van onder andere Shell,Unilever en GlaxoSmithKline spraken in hetrecente verleden bij SIB.

Aansluitend aan de lezingen vindt eenborrel plaats in caf de Nieuwe Dikke Dries.Ook onze sprekers zetten de discussie vaak

graag in een informele sfeer voort.

Tuesday Evenings

Every Tuesday evening, DUNSA Utrechtorganizes a lecture on a subject ofinternational importance.

Amongst the speakers we have

welcomed recently are Jan Pronk (former UNSpecial Representative to Sudan), Dries vanAgt (former PM), Mark Rutte (Liberal partyleader) and Maarten van Rossem (renownedProfessor of American Studies). We alsoregularly invite representatives ofmultinationals to speak: recent examplesinclude spokespersons from Shell, Unileverand GlaxoSmithKline.

After the lectures there is an informaldrink, where many of our guests enjoy

continuing the evenings discussion in a morecasual environment.

Commissies en Genootschappen

De activiteiten van de vereniging wordengeorganiseerd door commissies engenootschappen.

Commissies organiseren algemeen

toegankelijke activiteiten, zoals kampen,liftwedstrijden of een gala. Er zijn driebijzondere commissies die zich bezighoudenmet het dinsdagavondprogramma, deledenbinding en promotie/acquisitie.

Een genootschap bestaat uit een groepSIB-leden met een gedeelde interesse in eenbepaald thema of een specifieke regio. Zo zijner onder andere het Forumgenootschap(discussie over politiek en strategie) en hetMidden-Oosten-genootschap. De leden van

een genootschap organiseren samenactiviteiten zoals lezingen, diners, excursies enreizen.

Committees and Societies

The activities of DUNSA Utrecht are organizedby committees and societies.

Committees coordinate activities thatare open to all DUNSA members, such as

camping trips, hitch-hiking contests and aprom. There are 3 special committees that areresponsible for the lectures on Tuesdayevenings, social activities andpromotion/acquisition.

A society consists of DUNSA memberswith a common interest in a specific subjector geographical region. There is, for example,a discussion platform on politics and strategyand a Middle-East society. Societies organizetheir own activities, such as lectures, meals,

excursions and trips.

Excursies en Reizen

Excursies zijn er bij SIB in alle soorten enmaten. Zo zijn bijvoorbeeld zowel deIsralische ambassade als de Palestijnse verte-genwoordiging in Nederland bezocht. Ook een

bezoek aan een Boeddhistische tempel of deNacht van de Verenigde Naties in de Melkwegpassen in het SIB-programma.

Verder organiseert SIB minimaal eensper jaar een buitenlandse reis. Het afgelopenjaar zijn er reizen georganiseerd naarStraatsburg, Istanbul en Griekenland. Hierbijbezoekt SIB altijd een ambassade,internationale instelling of universiteit. Hetuitgaansleven in een ander land is natuurlijkook onderdeel van de ervaring.

Excursions and Trips

DUNSA organizes a broad range ofexcursions, which have included visits to theIsraeli embassy and the Palestinianrepresentation in the Netherlands. A visit to a

Buddhist temple or the Night of the UN inAmsterdam are other examples of DUNSAexcursions.

Moreover, DUNSA organizes at leastone annual trip abroad. Last year DUNSAdelegations visited Strasbourg, Istanbul andGreece. During these trips, DUNSA alwaysvisits international organizations or otherinteresting institutes, such as embassies anduniversities. Needless to say, members alsoget the opportunity to explore the local nightlife

as well.

Bijzonder...Gezellig

SIB-leden worden gekenmerkt door een bredeinteresse. Ze zijn afkomstig van veel verschil-lende studierichtingen, van natuurkunde totjournalistiek en van Spaans tot economie.

Deze diversiteit valt ook terug te vinden in deverscheidenheid aan onderwerpen die bij SIBaan bod komen.

SIB is vooral ook een gezellige verenig-ing. Tijdens de dinsdagavondborrel en ingenootschappen leren de leden elkaar goedkennen. SIB kent nog veel meer gezelligheids-activiteiten, zoals feesten, sportactiviteiten enspelletjesavonden.

A Unique Combination

DUNSA members share a broad interest in theworld around them. Their academicbackground varies from physics to journalismand from Spanish to economics. This diversity

is reflected in the many different subjects thatform the basis of our lectures and activities.Above all, however, DUNSA is about people.

On Tuesday evenings and in societiesmembers really get to know each other. Theassociation organizes a wide range ofadditional social activities, such as parties,sports activities and games nights.

Verenigingsblad (300 stuks, 6 maal per jaar)

De SIB-Link wordt verstuurd aan alle leden enenkele externe relaties.

Kleurenposter (150 stuks A3-formaat, 40 maal per jaar)

SIB kondigt alle wekelijkse en enkele bijzondere evenementen aan met kleurenposters. Dezeworden verspreid in gebouwen van deuniversiteit en hogeschool, openbare gebouwen en horecagelegenheden door heel Utrecht.

Een overzicht van alle open activiteiten van de vereniging, opgehangen door heel Utrecht.Zwartdruk op fluorescerend papier.

Katheder (wekelijks en bij bijzondere

gelegenheden)

Op het spreekgestoelte van SIB is, naast het eigen logo, ruimte voor een logo of boodschap vaneen zakelijk partner.

Website (doorlopend)

De website van SIB-Utrecht wordt veelvuldiggeraadpleegd door leden en niet-leden.

E-SIB (wekelijks)

SIB verstuurt een digitale nieuwsbrief aan haar leden.

Nieuwsbrief (maandelijks, 300 stuks)

SIB verstuurt een papieren nieuwsbrief met de agenda voor de komende tijd aan leden en enkeleexterne relaties.

FUG-Folder (jaarlijks, 15.000 stuks)

De FUG-Folder is een informatiefolder over de vereniging die verstuurd wordt naar alle nieuwestudenten in Utrecht. Daarnaast wordt de foldergedurende het hele jaar gebruikt alspromotiemiddel.

Overige sponsormogelijkheden (voorstellen zijn welkom)

De vereniging organiseert met een zeer hoge frequentie activiteiten en heeft een bekende naamonder een groot publiek. Daarmee heeft SIB een duidelijk platform om producten, uitgaven ofbedrijven onder de aandacht te brengen. U kunt bijvoorbeeld denken aan uw bedrijfsnaam opSIB-shirts of presentatiepanelen.

DUNSA Magazine (Bimonthly, 300 copies)

Our magazine is sent to all DUNSA Utrecht members and several external contacts.

Full Color Posters (40 a year, 150 A3-sized prints)

DUNSA announces both its weekly activities and any other special events on full color posters.

These are distributed in bars, restaurants and public buildings as well as on university premises.

Activity Calendar (Monthly, 150 copies)

An overview of all publicly accessible DUNSA activities, distributed throughout Utrecht. Black printon fluorescent paper.

Lectern (used for weekly lectures and special occasions)

Besides the DUNSA emblem, a sponsors logo or a short message can be placed on the lectern.This also illustrates your companys commitment to DUNSA.

Website (continuously)The DUNSA Utrecht website is visited by many of our members, as well as other people who liketo keep themselves informed of the associations activities.

Digital Newsletter (weekly)

DUNSA sends its members a digital newsletter on a weekly basis.

DUNSA members and several external relations receive a monthly newsletter that lists upcomingactivities.

FUG Flyer (yearly, 15,000 copies)

The FUG flyer is sent to all first-year students and used for promotion throughout the year. It con-tains an introduction to DUNSA and its activities.

Further Sponsorship Opportunities (suggestions are welcome)

The association organizes frequent activities and is well-known amongst students. This gives usthe opportunity to promote products, publications and companies to a large audience. One of thepossibilities is to print your companys name on DUNSA T-shirts or display panels.
