I INTRODUCTION

Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences (SVIMS), Tirupati, established in the year 1993, under the aegis of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, as a modern super speciality hospital, was granted the status of a university in the year 1995 by an act of A.P. state legislature vide act no.12 of 1995. The objectives of the institute are:

a) to create a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education and research facilities of a high order in the field of medical sciences in the existing super-specialities and such other super-specialities as may develop in future, including continuing medical education and hospital administration.

b) to develop patterns of teaching in postgraduate level and in super specialities so as to set a high standard of medical education.

c) to provide for training in paramedical and allied fields, particularly in relation to super-specialities.

d) to function as a referral hospital.

e) to provide for post graduate teaching and conduct of research in the relevant disciplines of modern medicine and other allied sciences, including inter-disciplinary fields of physical and biological sciences.

The institution, spread in a 107.04 acre campus, is gradually growing

into a prestigious university. Today, SVIMS has 32 medical specialities, two

running paramedical colleges, two allied health science departments and is

developing into a centre of excellence for providing medical care, education

and research activities of a high standard in the field of medicine.

The Institution is recognized by the University Grants Commission

(UGC) under section 12 (B) of the UGC act, 1956, and the Medical Council of

India (MCI) has granted permission and later recognition to start DM/M.Ch.

super-specialty courses in cardiology, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology,

medical oncology, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, urology, surgical

oncology, surgical gastroenterology and postgraduate (MD) courses in broad

specialities such as Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry, Emergency Medicine,

Immuno haematology & blood transfusion, Pathology, Medicine,

Microbiology, Nuclear Medicine, Radio Diagnosis and Radiotherapy.

The other allied health science departments are;

1) Biotechnology: The department of biotechnology was established in 2003. It offers M.Sc. (biotechnology) and Ph.D. programmes. The department has developed cardiomyocytes from human CD 34+ stem cells. The successful students are absorbed in industrial organizations, who are leaders in production of drugs, vaccines, etc. The students are selected in various national level examinations like CSIR, GATE, ICMR, BCIL (biotechnology consortium India ltd., New Delhi).

2) Bioinformatics: The department of bioinformatics was established in 2003. SVIMS is first of its kind to start P.G. course in bioinformatics in Andhra Pradesh. It offers M.Sc. (bioinformatics) and Ph.D. programmes. The department of biotechnology (DBT), department of science and technology (DST) has approved the bioinformatics centre and provided infrastructure facility in the department of bioinformatics. The centre has undertaken research project sanctioned by DBT. It has four positions of studentship/traineeship sponsored by DBT.

The constituent colleges are:

1) Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Sri Padmavathi medical college for women: The college was established in the year 2013, with the objective of providing the quality education at under-graduate level. The medical college is attached to 918 bedded hospital (broad specialities and super specialities) with excellent infrastructure with well equipped laboratories, advanced teaching and learning activities.

The institute has state of the art equipment like PET CT scanner, 128 slice CT scanner, 1.5 T MRI scanner, Dual head SPECT gamma camera, Digital cath. lab (2 nos), Auto analyzers etc.

2) College of Nursing: The college of nursing was established in the year 1996, with the objective of providing graduate, postgraduate teaching and for conduct of research in the relevant disciplines of modern nursing. Courses offered are B.Sc. (nursing) and M.Sc. (nursing). The college has excellent infrastructure with well equipped laboratories, advanced facilities for teaching and learning.

3) College of Physiotherapy: The College of physiotherapy was established in the year 1998. The college offers graduate and postgraduate courses in physiotherapy, in-patient and outpatient physiotherapy services and specialized services such as obesity clinic, pain clinic, paediatrics clinic, advanced physiotherapy, ergonomics & life style modification.

II Admission regulations:

A) Distribution of seats:

Number of seats permitted for admission 2014-15 academic year – 150 Number of seats to be filled through EAMCET – 127 Number of seats to be filled by SVIMS under NRI/NRI sponsored

B) Eligibility for admission:

(1) Admission to MBBS course under NRI/NRI sponsored category shall be regulated as per the Government order, vide G.O.MS.No.120, dt: 23.08.2014 of HM & FW (C1) department Govt. of A.P.

(2) NRI Category:

i. Applicants need to be the wards of NRIs. ii. AGE: The candidates shall have completed 17 years as on 31st

December 2014. iii. The candidate must have passed the subjects of English,

Physics, Chemistry and Biology with 50% aggregate marks in the qualifying examination or cumulative grade point average (CGPA) equivalent to 5 on a scale of 10.

iv. They should produce marks list of qualifying examination. If the grades are awarded, certificate showing equivalent marks to grades should be submitted.

v. They should also submit an Equivalent Certificate from Board of Intermediate Education, Hyderabad. The procedure for obtaining the same from Board of Intermediate education is available under (Annexure I)

(3) In the event of non-availability of adequate number of NRI candidates,

NRI sponsored candidates will be considered. The sponsor should be a blood relation such as brother/sister/uncle/aunt only. The sponsor should produce copies of

a. NRI status certificate issued by the Embassy of respective country under seal (or) overseas citizen of India (OCI) issued competent authority.

b. NRI bank account passbook c. Passport d. Employment certificate/proof of self-employment with annual

income

III Notification:

Notification shall be issued by Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences, Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women inviting applications from the eligible candidates for filling up of the seats with NRI/NRI sponsored candidates.

IV APPLICATION:

i. The application form and prospectus can be downloaded from the university website http://svimstpt.ap.nic.in.

ii. A fee of US $ 250 towards application shall be paid through online to the following SWIFT account:

iii. Application and prospectus are also available in the office of the Dean, SPMC (W), Tirupati on payment of US $ 250 by way of Banker’s cheque drawn in favour of the Director, SVIMS, Tirupati from any nationalized bank.

iv. The filled in application along with enclosures and fee receipt should be sent to “The Dean, SVIMS, Sri Padmavathi Medical College for Women, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, India, Pin– 517 507” on or before the last date specified in the admission calendar, by person/air mail/ speed post/courier only by superscribing “NRI/NRI sponsored admissions 2014-15”.

v. An advance copy with enclosures and fee receipt may be scanned and sent to [email protected] by the candidates who are sending application from abroad.

vi. The applications received after due date will not be considered under any circumstances.

vii. Self-attested xerox copies of certificates have to be enclosed. viii. The incomplete application will not be considered.

V Method of selection:

Separate merit lists will be prepared under NRI and NRI sponsored category. Preference will be given to NRI category for filling the seats. In the event of non-availability of adequate number of candidates from NRI, NRI sponsored category will be considered.

Preparation of merit list:

(a) The merit list shall be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the subjects of Biology/Botany, Zoology, Physics, Chemistry and English in the qualifying examination.

Alternatively, the cumulative grade point average (CGPA) equivalent on a scale of 10 will be accepted provided a certificate showing equivalent marks to grades is furnished.

(b) In the event of tie, the scoring will be done in the following order to arrive at the merit:

* Passing the qualifying examination in single attempt * Total marks secured * Group (optional subjects) total secured * Age: elder candidate will be considered

(c) A separate merit list for NRI and NRI sponsored categories will be displayed in the website on the date specified in the admission calendar.

VI Counselling:

i. The list of eligible candidates will be displayed in the website as per the admission calendar.

ii. The short listed candidates have to attend the counselling with the following original documents for NRI/NRI sponsored category.

(a) Qualifying marks memo of the candidate. If grades are awarded, certificate showing equivalent marks to grades.

(b) A certificate of qualifying examination or its equivalent certified by Board of Intermediate Education.

(c) Proof of date and place of birth. (d) Certificate showing that the candidate has pursued English

as one of the subject in the qualifying examination. (e) School or college leaving certificate (transfer certificate) from

the institution last studied. (f) Study certificate from VI class to intermediate/equivalent. (g) Recent NRI status certificate of the candidate/parents/

sponsor issued by the respective embassy with their seal. (h) Passport of the candidate (if NRI). (i) Copy of recent NRI bank account of parent/sponsor. (j) Proof of relationship if sponsored by NRI relative.

(k) Employment certificate of NRI parent/sponsor. In case of self-employment, nature of business, annual income and proof thereof to be furnished.

(l) Two passport size photographs.

iii. All the candidates selected shall undergo medical examination by the authority specified by the university. The admission is subject to their fitness.

iv. All the admitted candidates shall abide by the rules and regulations of the University.

v. The candidates called for counselling shall attend at their own expenses.

VII Fees:

The tuition fee is US $ 20,000 per year for 5 years. The first year tuition fee should be paid on admission. The subsequent tuition fee shall be paid in the month of August every year.

In addition, the candidate has to pay other fee in Indian rupees at par with resident Indian students.

VIII General regulations:

i. All admissions shall be deemed as provisional and subject to further scrutiny. They are liable for cancellation at any time during the study by reason of incorrect or false information furnished by the applicants or their parents/guardians at the time of admission. The cancellation of admission does not exclude penal action under the relevant criminal law.

ii. If the candidate discontinues the course for any reason, she will be relieved only on payment of tuition fee for the entire course.

iii. The university reserves the right to revise any of these rules without notice.

iv. The candidate admitted for MBBS course shall not register for any other degree/diploma concurrently.

v. Library: There is well established Library with relevant text books and journals. It has MEDLARS, CD ROM and Internet facility. The library is open on all working days from 9 am to 12 midnight.

i. The library is subscribing clinical key from Elsevier. ii. The e-resources available are :

b. 500+ Elsevier Medical and Surgical journals; c. 1100+ Elsevier Medical and Surgical reference books; d. All Medical and Surgical Clinics of North America; e. All Elsevier Medical and Surgical Procedure Videos (2500+); f. All Elsevier associated and supplemental images and videos (11000+); g. All Clinical Pharmacology Drug monographs

vi. The candidates who got admitted in to the course shall not be given the original certificates under any circumstances. They are advised to keep sufficient xerox copies of certificates for their future use.

vii. The students shall maintain strict discipline during the period of study/training programme in terms of conduct rules of the institute. The candidates shall not resort to any strikes during the period of their study. The students are not permitted to approach print or electronic media. They are not permitted to approach the legal authorities/ SVIMS authorities/ MCI/ govt. directly without prior permission by the head of the institution i.e. SPMC(W). Their grievances (if any) should be submitted to the dean first. In case of violation of the conduct rules, the admission of the candidate is liable for cancellation.

viii. Ragging is strictly prohibited. If any incident of ragging comes to the notice of the authorities, the student concerned shall be given liberty to explain and if her explanation is not found satisfactory, the authority would expel her from the institution and the information will be forwarded to medical council of India for taking necessary action. The declaration is to be signed by the candidate and parent/guardian to that effect on the date of admission.

ix. Not with-standing anything contained therein, the dean, SVIMS, Sri

Padmavathi medical college for women may at any time before completion of the course either on his/her own motion or on the application of any person after due and proper enquiry and after giving the person two weeks time from the date of receipt of the show cause notice to submit the written explanation and on personal hearing, recommends the cancellation of admission to the Director cum VC, SVIMS.

x. The students shall wear the appropriate dress for both theory and practical classes.

xi. The students shall strictly follow the rules and regulations of the institute that will be framed from time to time relating to hostel stay, attendance, examinations, leave etc.

Hostel accommodation:

Hostel facility will be provided to girls in the campus and have to stay in the hostel.

PROCEDURE FOR ISSUING OF ELIGIBILITY AND EQUIVALENCY CERTIFICATES

The following documents are to be submitted.

1. Written / typed representation / application by the candidate / parent addressed to the Secretary, BIE, A.P. Hyderabad.

2. Original Pass Certificates of 10th & 12th standard1class as the case may be. 3. Marks Memorandum list of 10th & 12th standard / class as the case may be. 4. Migration Certificate issued by their concerned Board.

5. Rs.500/- D.D. (any Nationalization Banks) in favour of Secretary, BIE, A.P.,

Hyderabad in case of students studied in India.

6. Rs.1,000/- in case of students studied abroad.

7. Transfer certificate of School / College as the case may be.

8. Letter from the Indian Embassy – in case of candidates who studied abroad

specifying the accreditation of the Institute / School, level of examination with that of Indian standard. (or) a certificate from the AIU (Association of Indian Universities)

9. If there is a gap of more than two years after completing the +2 Course, an affidavit

by Notary should be produced to that effect. 10. The RIO’s are competent to issue only eligibility certificates to the students who

passed X std from the Boards of other states only on or before 31st

September of every year. They should not issue the eligibility certificates to those

who studied in foreign countries. 11. The filled in applications should be submitted to the Asst. Professor, BIE/RIO of

concerned district.

Note: Candidates who passed X std from APOSS, Hyderabad need not pay Rs.500/- to get eligibility certificate.
