According to the Duden German dictionary “Bionomy” is the “Science of the laws of life”.

These laws are the qualitative basis for the developmentof all DR. BAUMANN COSMETIC products. This meansthat not only the skin’s metabolism and structure is taken into account, but also aspects of our environmentare considered.

The goals of bionome beauty care are:

■ Optimal compatibility through application of dermato-logical and allergological knowledge in the selectionof ingredients.

■ A targeted range of ingredients whose effectivenesshas been specified and proven and which are there-fore beneficial to the skin.

■ A harmony between the ingredients and the physiol-ogy and anatomy of the skin. This is achieved whenas many ingredients as possible are endemic to theskin and body, meaning the substances occur natu-rally in the composition of the skin. SkinIdent®, ourcutting-edge product line, is comprised exclusively ofingredients and vitamins endemic to the skin.

Exceptional Compatibility

The scientifically-based selection of ingredients meansthat the probability of allergies is minimized and providesthe basis for outstanding compatibility and effectiveness.Specific fragrances, essential oils and preservatives incosmetics can trigger allergies. These are referred to intechnical literature such as the “Blue List” (published byECV) and the IVDK “Investigation into the prevalence ofenvironmental contact allergies” commissioned by theNational Environmental Agency in 2004. Even if your skinhas tolerated allergens for a long period of time, sus-tained use can cause allergic skin reactions months or

even years down the line. In the interests of our clients wewould like to minimize this risk. Therefore DR. BAUMANNCOSMETIC has invested a considerable amount inresearch to make products with pleasant fragrances without the use of perfume or essential oils and durablewithout the addition of preservatives. Safety through natural ingredients

Our products contain valuable natural plant oils, but nomineral oils such as paraffins derived from petroleum.Mineral oils are so cheaply priced that they can greatlydecrease the manufacturing costs of cosmetics. Howev-er experience shows that in high concentrations theycan form a film on the surface of the skin and, accord-ing to a study by the Dermatological University Hospitalof Copenhagen, they can impair the regeneration of theskin’s protective barrier. Even after use of mineral oils is

discontinued the skin may dry out and develop blemish-es until it adjusts to a healthier way of treating with a DR. BAUMANN product containing natural plant oils. Insuch cases continue to use the DR. BAUMANN productin order to regenerate the skin’s protective barrier so thatthe skin can conserve moisture (for more information onmineral oils see “Consumer Protection: RecognizingCosmetic Ingredients” on page 6).

The paradigm of the skin

With DR. BAUMANN liposome products you treat yourskin with exactly the same substances which are foundthere naturally. Simply put, you are caring for your skinwith “skin”! Can there be anything more natural for theskin? An important requirement is that liposome prod-ucts do not contain preservatives or perfume. Certainlyyou now understand why our skincare products are so

effective and compatible with the skin. Criteria for natu-ral cosmetics which allow, for example, preservatives tobe included are, in our opinion, not adequate. Our spe-cific quality requirements adhere to the notion of“bionome beauty care”.

An important goal of DR. BAUMANN COSMETIC is torespect the animals and the environment. We thereforedo not use unnecessary packaging such as outer pack-aging for our containers and bottles, and for the sake ofanimal protection we do not use any substances fromkilled animals in our products. Animal ingredients in cos-metic products derive predominantly from waste from

slaughterhouses and from animals which have sufferedtheir whole lives in “factory farms” where animals areintensively mass-farmed. True animal protection com-pletely rejects the killing of any animal. A meat-free dietdoes not only benefit animals but also your health andtherefore your skin.

Responsibility for people, animals and environment

The importance of a healthy diet for beautiful skin cannotbe stressed enough. Scientific studies show how spectac-ular the health benefits of a meat-free diet are. An exam-ple is shown in a relevant policy document published in2003 by the ADA (American Dietetic Association) and theDC (Dieticians of Canada) collectively on the Health bene-fits of vegetarian (meat-free) and vegan (no meat, fish,eggs or milk-based products) diets. Many of the mostrenowned dieticians in the USA and Canada are membersof these associations. The ADA alone has around 70 000members. In this official policy document it states:

“Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian dietsare appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, includingduring pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and ado-lescence. Vegetarian diets offer a number of nutritionalbenefits.”

“It is the position of the American Dietetic Associationand Dietitians of Canada that appropriately planned veg-etarian diets are healthful, nutritionally adequate, andprovide health benefits in the prevention and treatmentof certain diseases.”

“Dietetics professionals have a responsibility to supportand encourage those who express an interest in con-suming a vegetarian diet.”

One of the most recognised and renowned German dieti-cians Prof. Claus Leitzmann from the University ofGießen is also clear on the subject:

“Studies with people living vegan lifestyles which arebeing carried out across the world show that vegans areon average healthier than the general population. Bodyweight, blood pressure, cholesterol, kidney function andgeneral state of health are by and large worse in the nor-mal population. In addition to these positive aspects avegan diet is less damaging to the environment (liquidmanure and methane from animal farming), developingcountries will become more independent (no import ofanimal feed) and animals will be more humanely treat-ed. Therefore the breeding of livestock, animal farming,transportation of animals and animal experiments will bereduced or can be completely eradicated.”

For the protection of consumers it is a legal requirementthat the ingredients in cosmetic products are identifiedon the packaging (INCI Declaration). But consumers areoften not aware about the meaning of these (often Latin)terms. For this reason we have put together for you a listof frequently used chemical preservatives, perfumes andpetroleum-based products/mineral oils.

Chemical preservatives: Benzoic Acid, Methylparaben,Ethylparaben, Butylparaben, Propylparaben, Triclosan,Imidazolidinyl Urea, Diazolidinyl Urea, Chlorhexidin,Methyl isothiazolinon, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sor-bate, Dibromodicyanobutan, Sorbic Acid, DMDM Hydan-toin, Polyaminopropyl Biguanide, Phenoxy-ethanol,Chlormethyl isothiazolinon, 2-Bromo-2-Nitropropane-1,3-Diol (Bronopol), Quater nium 15, Iodpropinylbutylcarbamat.

Please note: “nature-related” preservatives are chemicalpreservatives.

Liposome MultiActive lightHas the same ingredients and effect as Liposome Multi-Active Ceramide, but essentially contains less oil andfewer liposomes. Ideal for oily skin, warm weather andfor adapting the skin to the initial use of multilamellarliposomes.

Liposome MultiActive Super lightContains the same ingredients as Liposome MultiActivelight, but by contrast contains no evening primrose oiland jojoba oil. Particularly recommended for very warmweather, very oily skin and for adapting the skin to theinitial use of multilamellar liposomes.

Assured Effectiveness

Scientific studies have shown that a twice-dailyapplication of multilamellar liposomes can greatlyboost the skin’s moisture content within a shortperiod of time. These findings have been docu-mented in scientific publications such as “Haut undLiposome” (Skin and liposomes) by Dr. Ghyczy et al.(1992) and “Beeinflussung der Hautfeuchtigkeitdurch Liposomen” (Influencing the moisture of theskin through the use of liposomes) in the journalSöFW 10/92 by Dr. Röding et al.

Liposomes are both an active substance and anexcipient (transporter) of active substances. Theyare related to the skin and perform an importantmoisture dispensing function. They are therefore ina position to transport other skin-friendly activesubstances (such as vitamins E, A and provitaminB5) into the skin.

The lipid building-blocks of multilamellar liposomescome from nature and occur as components of theskin. This is the basis for particularly good compati-bility. Hand Cream With DR. BAUMANN well cared-for hands are moreattractive! The DR. BAUMANN Hand Cream protects thehands against drying cleansing substances and preventspremature skin ageing. It is quickly absorbed after appli-cation without leaving behind an oily residue.

Shower & Bath Skin is gently cleansed by mild cleansing substances.Afterwards we recommend the use of one of the bodylotions. For very dry and flaky skin we recommend theIntensive Lotion and Body-Lotion Super.

Body-LotionA light yet intensive product for the body. It spreads welland is quickly absorbed. For itchy, tight and dry skinIntensive Body Lotion or Body Lotion Super should beapplied. Body-Special light(Body contouring with liposomes)

Contains a high concentration of multilamellar liposomes andspecial active ingredients from the Indian medicinal plantColeus Forskohlii. An ideal liposome product for the body andproblem areas, e.g. “orange-peel” effect and cellulite.

Body-Special strong (Anti-cellulite complex)

A high-quality lotion with a special combination of activeingredients from the Indian medicinal plant ColeusForskohlii and substances which boost blood circulation.The metabolism is activated, which helps to deal with cel-lulite and the “orange-peel” effect. Due to the stimulationof blood circulation do not apply to spider veins or varicoseveins. Apply with care if you have circulatory problems andduring hot weather. In these circumstances it is recom-mended that you use Body-Special Light.

Bosom Lotion A special gel treatment for bust and décolleté.

Active Care contains valuable activeingredients in high concentrations such as tea tree oil,vitamin E, lecithin, zinc oxide and vitamin A. Active Caremust be applied over the entire face (and décolleté ifnecessary), directly onto clean skin. Deo extra mildWorks in a gentle way against perspiration and bodyodour.

Deo mild (With manuka, tea tree oil and lavender)

Contains the same ingredients as Deo extra mild with theaddition of manuka, tea tree and lavender oil which areparticularly effective against troublesome body odour.

Insect Stop A light fluid gel with a mixture of essential oils such aslavender, citronella, clove and myrrh which act as naturalinsect repellent. In warm weather it is pleasantly refreshing.

Lipstick Factor 7 Valuable active ingredients and oils nourish and protectthe delicate skin on the lips, both in cold weather as wellas in the sun. It contains no mineral oils, so it is conven-ient and comfortable for frequent application.

Natural vitamin E has many positive effects on the skin. Itimproves moisture retention in the skin’s horny layer whichleads to an improvement in skin texture. Vitamin E also has acalming effect and increases enzyme activity in the skin. CeramideDespite comprehensive skincare, the skin can appearflaky and rough when the lipids in the horny layer aredisplaced due to ageing, environmental influences etc.,impairing the skin’s barrier function. The affected inter-cellular substance in the horny layer is comprised ofceramides and other lipids. The Ceramide ampouleswork effectively against rough and flaky skin. They aresuitable as a treatment for neurodermatitis and psoria-sis.

Herb-VitalThe combination of basil, chamomile and summersavoury contained in these ampoules has a calming andsoothing effect, recommended for dryness, impurities,redness and skin prone to blemishes.

LecithinIdeal for problems such as stubborn blackheads.Because lecithin positively influences the water balancein the horny layer of the skin, the skin becomes softer,roughness is smoothed out and blackheads can beremoved more easily. JojobaThese ampoules contain 100 % pure cold-pressed jojo-ba oil. Because jojoba oil is so similar to the sebum pro-duced by the skin, these ampoules should be applied todry skin. Because jojoba oil remains on the skin’s sur-face it makes sense to use these ampoules overnight.

Evening Primrose Oil These ampoules contain 100 % pure evening primroseoil with a naturally high content of gamma-linoleic acids.These ampoules are especially recommended for thetreatment of dry, rough and flaky skin. For damaged,chapped skin, evening primrose oil is a product whichdoes not burn and which is often used on its own. Inthese circumstances it is advisable to treat the skin firstonly with evening primrose oil ampoules and eventuallyin combination with the Ceramide ampoules, and then toprogress to a complete skincare regime with liposomesand moisturizer. Evening primrose oil can also be takenorally to provide the body with gamma-linoleic acids. Adrop 2 to 3 times per day is adequate.

Aloe VeraThe calming and soothing effect of Aloe Vera gel, togeth-er with hyaluronic acids and urea, is superb for stressedand irritated skin.

Simple and Efficient Skincare

The skin of men and women show only small differences,e.g. in the thickness of the epidermis and sebum produc-tion. In men’s skin there remains a strong sebum productioneven after their 30s, whereas the sebaceous glands inwomen show greatly reduced activity after 30. In addition,men’s skin is often stressed and dried out by shaving, espe-cially when aftershave containing alcohol is applied to theskin. All of this means that particular care should be takenin choosing the correct products. Therefore the DR. BAU-MANN products are perfect for the care of female as well asmale skin. Men are well advised not to wait until the firstskin problems arise, but to prevent them from occurring byusing DR. BAUMANN skincare products such as the Cleans-ing Gel, or using mild cleansing milk such as the CleansingMilk or Cleansing Milk Super in place of shaving cream. TheCleansing Milk acts within minutes to prepare the skin for agentle wet shave. At the same time the skin is gentlycleansed. Sport, sun and feet

For sports in summer when there is a large amount of per-spiration we recommend the use of the oil-free Sun Gel withSPF 10. For strong solar radiation, e.g. while skiing, the SunLotion SPF 20 or SPF 30 is just right. The Sun Cream SPF30, which contains oil, is recommended for sun protectionof dry skin and also for skiing in winter to protect all skin-types from the cold. The lips are protected and smoothed bythe Lipstick SPF 7. With or without sun the DR. BAUMANNSelf Tan provides a healthy, natural looking tan withoutblotches. Foot odour and athlete’s foot is not only commonamongst sportsmen. Spare the environment from aerosolsprays by using the DR. BAUMANN Foot Cream with tea treeoil and prevent other problems such as athlete’s foot at thesame time. Dry and rough hands and feet can be treatedwith the Chaps Cream – if it is not acute, the Hand Creamcan be used.
