The cells perform their functions, and then die. Sometimes, however, in-stead of the cells dying, they keep divid-ing and creating new cells that the body does not need. The cells form a mass of tissue called a tumor. The tumor can be benign (harmless), or malignant (harmful). A ma-lignant tumor means cancer.
