Students who choose to do this will be shown what to do and be responsible for the washing and drying of their own clothes. The school also has showers available on the grounds and we invite students to use this if needed. We will also be providing shampoo, conditioner and body wash for students to use at the pool after their swimming lessons. We are here to support and help our students and by opening up the use of our facilities to them as it may lighten the pressure of dwindling water supply in the family home. If you have any questions please contact the office.

NEWSLETTER 18 OCTOBER 2019

Music NewsThis year our school has again registered to participate in “Music: Count Us In”. This is Australia’s biggest school initiative, and it is anticipated that in 2019 there will be involvement of more than 700,000 students from over 4000 schools nationwide! Its’ aim is to promote and celebrate the value of music by bringing teachers, parents, students and the local community together in a celebration of music. At Proston we will be having our own celebration day on Tuesday 5th November. In the past Music: Count Us In has received fabulous support from both Proston and the wider South Burnett community, and it is hoped that we can continue to grow this. Students have already started learning the performance song.... so now I have a couple of jobs for you (the parents/caregivers) to do!

• Task 1: Ask your child/ren what is the name of the song our school is performing? • Task 2: Ask them to sing you some of the song. • Task 3: Mark the following date in your diary – Tuesday 5th November 11:30am, P-6 performance of song for parents, staff and High School students.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to come along and see our P-6 students singing as part of one big choir!

If you have any queries or concerns regarding the above (or any other music related matter) please feel free to contact me at the following email address: [email protected]

Primary Science is focusing on the birds and the trees, as part of Biology. Students will be exploring the natural environment and discovering how everything in nature is connected. Science Club has started on Tuesday and our budding Science Club members have made their rockets and are ready to launch next Tuesday. We are looking forward to seeing how far they fly.

Science Students of the Week are: Trent, Bianca and Jaxon. Each of these students provided an amazing scientific answer during classes this week - well done.

Welcome back to Term 4! We are looking forward to swimming starting next week. Thanks to all of the parents who have returned notes. Remember if your child is unable to swim please write a note or ring the office, so that your child can be provided with alternate work. Looking forward to seeing each student progressing and learning a life long skill.

Year 7/8 English

Mr Nicholas Blanch Year 7 Form and Secondary Teacher

We are back for our final term of 2019! Both English classes have hit the ground running, with a lot of work to cover within the next eight weeks.

The Year 7 students are investigating poetry and song lyrics, and have already begun evaluating famous Australian ballads. Meanwhile, the Year 8 class

have been busily developing their descriptive writing skills, with a focus on invoking emotional responses from their audience and crafting specific

atmospheres and moods within their prose. Please expect students from both classes to bring a portion of homework to complete each evening!

Year 5 & 6 English

This term in English the Year 5/6 students are studying the difference between a book and its movie adaptation. They were very excited to kick off their Term 4 English lessons by reading the book version of The Lorax and then on Friday were excited to view the film adaptation of the book. This week they got to work at pulling apart the main elements of the storyline by working out the orientation, complication, climax and resolution.

Miss Katrina Hayward and Mrs Amanda Wagner Year 5/6 Teachers

Year 3 & 4 News

Welcome back after the break. It has been great to see students return refreshed and ready for the term. Students

have been working hard in English this week as they begin planning and writing their own poems. We have been

discussing how to make our poems more interesting to an audience through using language features such as

alliteration and adjectives.

Reading

Congratulations to all the students who received their Premier’s Reading Challenge certificates on Monday morning Parade! What a great sight to see so many of our students rewarded for their efforts.

Year 9 English

A new topic has begun this term and students are excited to explore the iconic Australian novel, ‘Tomorrow When the War Began’! We have been delving into the assessment requirements for this unit and enjoying experiencing new texts. As a class we will also watch the film version of the novel, so keep an eye out for permission notes.

Year 10 English

The Year 10 students have just finished their Work Experience and most have had an excellent learning opportunity. Back at school we have begun our new topic and are exploring poetry in relation to global, social and environmental issues. We will be reading some iconic Australian ballads within the next few days!
