What is R.A. 9147• AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE CONSERVATION

AND PROTECTION OF WILDLIFE RESOURCES AND THEIR HABITATS, APPROPRIATING FUNDS THEREFOR AND FOR OTHER PURPOSES.

Page 4: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Genesis 1 :26-28• 26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our

likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

• 27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

• 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”

Page 5: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

The Act makes it unlawful for any person to undertake the following:

• killing and destroying wildlife species, except when it is done as part of the religious rituals of established tribal groups or indigenous cultural communities, when the wildlife is afflicted with an incurable communicable disease, when it is deemed necessary to put an end to the misery suffered by the wildlife, or when it is done to prevent an imminent danger to the life or limb of a human being; when the wildlife is killed or destroyed after it has been used in authorized research or experiments

• inflicting injury which cripples and/or impairs the reproductive system of wildlife species

Page 6: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

• effecting any of the following acts in critical habitats: dumping of waste products detrimental to wildlife; squatting or otherwise occupying any portion of the critical habitat; mineral exploration and/or extraction; burning; logging; and quarrying

• introduction, reintroduction, or restocking of wildlife resources• trading of wildlife• collecting, hunting or possessing wildlife, their by-products and

derivatives• gathering or destroying of active nests, nest trees, host plants

and the like• maltreating and/or inflicting other injuries not covered by the

preceding paragraph; and• transporting of wildlife.

Page 7: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

For any person who undertakes

these illegal acts, stiff penalties and fines are meted out. Imprisonment of as much as 12 years and a fine of P1 million pesos shall be imposed, if inflicted or undertaken against species listed as critical.

Pamana A 3-year-old Philippine eagle released into the wild in

June, is found with a bullet hole in her right breast in Mount Hamiguitan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Philippine eagle Pamana's carcass is found near a creek in Mount Hamiguitan on August 16, 2015.

ENDANGERED SPECIES IN THE

PHILIPPINES

Page 11: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Philippine Eagle (scientific name: Pithecophaga jefferyi)

Otherwise called as the monkey-eating eagle, is a type of eagle native to the southern Philippines. It is characterized by a combination of a brown and white feather pattern and bushy crest and is believed to be one of the largest and most powerful birds on Earth.

Page 12: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Philippine freshwater crocodile (scientific name: Crocodylus mindorensis)

• The Mindoro crocodile is also

listed as critically endangered

by the IUCN. It is reported that

as of September 2011, there

are only 250 of them left in

the country. Experts attribute

the inclusion of the Philippine

freshwater crocodile to the list

of endangered species in the

Philippines to illegal hunting

and dynamite fishing.

Page 13: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Tamaraw (scientific name: Bubalus mindorensis)

• Also known as the Mindoro

dwarf buffalo, another critically

endangered animal according to

the IUCN, the main causes of the

Tamaraw being in the list of

endangered animals in the

Philippines are illegal hunting

and logging, and residential land

clearing.

Page 14: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Philippine cockatoo (scientific name: Cacatua haematuropygia)

• Locally known as kalangay or katala, this

red-vented cockatoo is indigenous to the

Philippines. In the past, this species is

common in the whole country but today

only 180 of them are known to live in

the wild within the forests of Palawan.

These birds are listed by the IUCN as

critically endangered because of illegal

catching to be sold to private collectors

and other pet enthusiasts. Another

cause of its population decline is the

birds are considered agricultural pests

and are killed or trapped in by farmers

to protect their fields.

WHAT IS THE CAUSE OF ANIMAL ENDANGEREMENT

?

Page 16: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

DESTRUCTION OF ANIMAL HABITAT

Humans destroy precious habitat--the natural environment of a living thing--when they fill swamps and marshes, dam rivers and cut down trees to build homes, roads and other developments.

Page 17: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

The greatness of a nation can be

judged by the way its animals are

treated.

Page 18: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

POLLUTION Oil spills, acid rain and water pollution have

been devastating for many species of fish and birds.

Page 19: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

HUNTING AND FISHING Many animals are over-hunted because their

meat, fur and other parts are very valuable.

Page 20: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

EXOTIC SPECIES When animals or plants arrive into a new

habitat from a foreign place they sometimes introduce diseases that the native species can't fight. These "exotic" species can also prey on the native species.

Page 21: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

WAYS TO PROTECT THE ENDAGERED

ANIMALS

Page 22: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

If you know people who seek pleasure through sports such as hunting, discourage them by explaining the consequences of their actions.

Page 23: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Do not buy animal products such as a tiger's claw, elephants tusk etc. Because the animals are cruelly killed for their body parts.

Page 24: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

• Try to support organizations such as world wildlife fund as they too strive for the prevention of animal extinction except on a larger scale.

Page 25: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

•In order to prevent the complete wipe out of animal species we need all the help we can get. This can be achieved creating PowerPoint presentations and organizing awareness campaign. It is the duty of those who are already aware to spread the importance of animals and the consequences of their extinction.

Page 26: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

•“Animals are my friends...and I don't hurt my friends.”

Page 27: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

FOUR CORE VALUES

Maka-Diyos God gave us the authority to rule over all the animals that

live on the earth. May it be the birds in the skies or the fish

in the oceans and seas. Everyone of us should understand

that we have the responsibility to take care of what God has

given to us and that includes the nature we are now living

in. We have to show Him that we value what He gives and

provides for us in every single day of our lives here on earth.

Page 28: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Makakalikasan• Nature and environment is only one of the wonderful things God has

given us meaning we should do everything we can do to preserve it.

Our environment was vast and beautiful. We must make an effort and

preserve our lands' beauty so that we can share it to the people from

around the world. For us and for the generations that will come in the

near future, we must strive to do our best in protecting our

environment.

Page 29: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Makabansa

It is a must in our country to protect and preserve the

endangered species that can only be found exclusively in

the Philippines. Because of us humans and our selfish

desires, some species are slowly going extinct, only a few

hundreds left. Being citizens in the Philippines, we must

do our duty and obligation in protecting these nearly

extinct species for us and the future generations.

Page 30: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Makatao Since humans have the capacity to protect animals, we

must do everything to defend and assist these animals.

They have no idea that they are slowly getting less and

less because of human's selfish desires. But we humans

don't care about these animals and continue to destroy

these animals that we only use when we need them. If

you think about it, we are the real animals. Not caring

about the living creatures around us and proceed to do

what makes us happy.

Page 31: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

• Think of an ecosystem like a game of Jenga. The players are humans and natural selection. Each block supports one another and each time you remove a block you risk the entire tower falling. Humans carelessly remove blocks without much thought to them while natural selection carefully chooses each block and makes sure that other blocks are only slightly affected. Eventually, humans are going to remove a block that will send the entire tower tumbling down and along with it, each individual block. Just like the blocks, animals depend on one another, and at one point one species will disappear and it’ll cause a chain reaction. For example, let’s say that a certain plant species goes extinct. Other animals depended on that plant for food and without it, the whole food chain is messed up.

Page 32: Protecting Wildlife, Stop Extermination

Wildlife is Mother Nature’s greatest treasure, To protect it, we must take every measure.

Extinction is forever, endangered means we still have time.

So we must Speak for the ones without a voice
