Vacation Crime Prevention Tips
by pix11.com
Don’t let thieves spoil your summer vacation! While you’re away,
your homes, apartments and vehicles may be vulnerable to burgla-
ry, theft or vandalism. Take steps to protect your home and vehicle
before you leave! The UTSA PD Crime Prevention Unit wants to
remind you of some tips to keep yourself, your family, your home
and your valuables safe.
At Home:
1- Always lock your doors and windows especially at night and
when you’re away.
2- Close your garage and pet doors.
3- Secure ladders and tools so they can’t be used to gain entry into
your home.
4- Be wary of anyone who approaches your front door and don’t let
them take up too much of your time. Criminals work together; one
will come to your door and distract you while the other sneaks into
your home.
5- Always ask for an ID (picture and company name)
6- Be a good neighbor, lookout for one another.
7- Excessive dog barking could be a sign of an intruder and may
warrant a call to the police (911 or 458-4911 on campus).
8- Lock up your home, activate your alarm.
9- Don’t broadcast your plans or post photos of yourself on the
beach on social media.
10- Hold the delivery of your mail and newspaper or ask a trusted
friend to pick them up for you.
11- Buy a timer for your lights and set them in a random pattern.
Car safety:
1- Never leave your car running unattended, even to dash into a
store. 2- Always roll up your windows and lock your car even in hot
weather.
3- Never leave valuables in plain sight.

August in National Immunization Month Immunization helps prevent dangerous and sometimes deadly diseases. To stay
protected against serious illnesses like the flu, measles, and pneumonia, adults need
to get their shots – just like kids do.
National Immunization Awareness Month is a great time to promote vaccines and
remind family, friends, and coworkers to stay up to date on their shots.
Here are just a few ideas:
Talk to friends and family members about how vaccines aren’t just for kids.
People of all ages can get shots to protect them from serious diseases.
Encourage people in your community to get the flu vaccine every year.
Invite a doctor or nurse to speak to parents about why it’s important for all
kids to get vaccinated.
