Route Accounting ApplicationsPre Sale (Orders)A procedure in which a sales person from a distributor meets with the retailer to retrieve new orders one day prior to the scheduled order delivery date.(The salesperson may or may not print a copy of the sales order. The orders are then transmitted to the distributors’ office for picking and delivery the following day.)

Order Truck DSD (Invoices) A procedure in which the sales person sells and delivers the ordered product to the retailer(s) and invoices the ordered product all in the same day. (The sales person prints an invoice which requires the customers signature for proof of delivery. A copy of the invoice is then submitted to the customer and the invoices are then transmitted to the distributors office.)

What are Pre Sale(Orders)?

A sale held in advance of an advertised sale, as for select customers.

What is Direct Store Delivery (DSD)?The regular delivery of a vast array of consumer package goods (CPG) to retail stores around the world. Soft drinks, beer, bottled water, potato chips, bread, cigarettes, magazines, and newspapers all have to be delivered and accounted for, often on a daily basis.

Direct Store Delivery Process

Step 1Drivers from the Manufacturing/Distribution company arrive at a local distribution center or warehouse. Using a handheld they download the day’s route, inventory, and pricing information; a process that may take 2-5 minutes per route.

Step 2The driver will then confirm that the correct inventory is aboard for that days’ delivery and proceed to distribute the product to retail stores.

Direct Store Delivery ProcessStep 3 Driver unloads the merchandise at the store, enters the information into the handheld , prints an invoice, and retrieves the required signature and payment from the customer.

Step 4The driver will submit all invoices or presale orders along with their truck inventory list to the pertaining corporate offices’ main system via their handheld device.
