Proverbs 16 1 The preparations of the heart in man,

and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD.

We have our ideas of what we want to do, where

we want our lives to go, plans for the future.

But God is over all!

2 All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes;

but the LORD weigheth the spirits.

(NIV) 2 All a man's ways seem innocent to him,

but motives are weighed by the LORD.

(TLB) 2 We can always "prove" that we are right,

but is the Lord convinced?

Even “good deeds” can come from wrong desires.

Perhaps to be seen and honored of men.

Perhaps go to church to date a church-going girl.

I can rationalize almost anything I want to do,

but that doesn’t make it right.

Right is what God says

is right.

3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy

thoughts shall be established.

(NIV) 3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,

and your plans will succeed.

You can’t commit wrongdoing to the Lord.

What we want to do has to be in His Will.

To work at a good thing and earn a living for our

family is God’s Will. He said so.

To stay sober and behave with good sense is God’s

Will. The Bible tells me so.

Anything God says I can do, I can commit unto

Him, ask His blessing on it, and succeed.

4 The LORD hath made all things for Himself: yea,

even the wicked for the day of evil.

NIV 4 The Lord has made everything for His Own

Purposes -- even the wicked, for punishment.

God is Creator of all, and He is over all.

He makes no mistakes.

I don’t want to miss anything

through my own disobedience or

stubborn pride that God has

planned for my life.

God has a Master Plan.We can’t always see it or understand it,

but it is good, acceptable, and perfect.

5 Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination

to the LORD: though hand join in hand, he shall

not be unpunished.

“Though hand join in hand” is a

phrase of certainty.

The high and mighty will be

brought down.Man can’t live independently of the Lord

and do well.

6 By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the

fear of the LORD men depart from evil.

God’s Mercy and Truth made a way for man’s

sins to be washed away in the Blood of Jesus.

When he has been cleansed, a man must

revere the Lord and depart from evil.
