* Everyone wants to succeed at whatever they undertake ~ and they want the freedom to undertake anything they wish.

* Everyone is free to define success in any way that they choose and to value anything they wish.

* Under these circumstances you would think it would be difficult to have at your command everything you need to succeed.

* It may be difficult to specify everything but it is not difficult to specify the most critical elements.

* The virtues are the keys to predictable success at whatever (s)he untakes.

* They are necessary (but perhaps no sufficient) elements in every success, personal or otherwise.

* At the heart of every success you will find the virtues ~ At the heart of every failure you will find that one or more critical virtues were absent.

* To accomplish anything predictably you must first and foremost be Purposeful!

* Success is an achievement that comes from the setting and achievement of goals ~ a part of purposefulness is goal setting.

* Being distracted is a part of the human condition ~ the ability to return to purpose is critical.

* Purposefulness will allow each person to reach the goals (s)he sets.

* We are little learning fools ~ we have to know.

* Not just know but to know for sure. This requires another virtue. The virtue of Truthfulness.

* If our purpose is to know for sure we must seek only the truth ~ any story will not do ~ it has to be the real story.

* We must learn to recognize it when we see it, we must observe and verify. We must know with our own mind and see with our own eyes.

* We must love the truth to the point that we know what is actually happening and speak nothing but the truth.

* Truthfulness is the key to knowing.

* To grow is to change and we will change a great deal in our lifetimes.

* Every time we learn something new we must be different or the new learning signifies nothing.

* To make the changes we will need throughout life we must cultivate Flexibility.

* Flexibility will allow us to recognize a need for change and to make the changes needed to more fully develop ourselves.

* Flexibility allows us to grow without losing the our gains and the foundations we have already formed.

* Growth is not a gradual process and try as we might to protect children from the negative things that arise in life ~ problems will occur.

* The best resolution to any problem is one that addresses the root of the problem so that it doesn’t recur time and again.

* To solve problems at this level we must cultivate the virtue of Determination.

* Determination will keep us from accepting have solutions that may work for a while but then the same problem comes back.

* Determination will keep us going until we know the real problem and can formulate a resolution that keeps it from coming back.

* Not everything is a problem ~ sometimes we just take a path that is not bad but is not all that good either.

* We want to improve things to make them faster, cheaper and better ~ we want to make them as good as they can be.

* To do this we must cultivate a sense of Excellence.

* Excellence will keep us on the path of constant improve- ment, little by little, day by day.

* To make the best use of what they are given they must be a good stewards ~ that wonderful combination of the virtues of orderliness and creativity.

* Orderliness will assure that nothing is wasted ~ Creativity will put it to good use.

* Any child who receives the gifts of these virtues will be assured of success in anything (s)he undertakes!!!
