Potable water availability – Water is an essential element in the daily lives of students. For K-12 The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 requires free potable water where meals are served on K-12 campuses.

Product cost – While administrators continue to recognize the urgency to upgrade their aging facilities, expenses in other areas have continued to increase and funding has not kept pace.

Infection Control – The number of infection and illness outbreaks in schools continues to grow each year. The spread of infections comes at a growing financial cost to both schools and parents, while impacting the performance of teachers and students.

Eliminating the danger of lead exposure from faucets in our schools

The EPA estimates that 20% of human exposure to lead comes from drinking water. In extreme cases, older faucets can contribute up to one-third of the lead in water that has been sitting in the pipes for several hours.

Prior to 1996, faucets were allowed to contain up to 8 percent lead. Even after 1996, the 8 percent lead content requirement was allowed, as long as the faucet met new lead-leaching requirements.

Today, faucets are required to contain no more than 0.25% lead (measured based on wetted surface area) thus reducing the lead content to just 3% of the value before 1996.
