The concept plan for the development of Creekview Resort is expected to be a 5-15 year build out depending on the economy. The City of Crandall entered into a purchase agreement with Creekview Resort, LLC on November 17, 2008. 2986 CR 4104 - Crandall, TXPoint View Baptist Church in Combine, TX will be

hosting a Bar-B-Que Dinner, Talent Show and Auction on Saturday, April 4, 2009 for our students to go to youth camp. Last summer we took over 110 kids to camp and are planning to do that again this summer.

Doors open at 5:00 pm, and dinner will be served from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the door for $10 each or you may call Tim Brewer at 972-476-9911 for further details.

The 2008-2009 Crandall Pirate Men's Basketball Team had a year to remember. The Pirates were an impressive and excit-ing team to watch this season. The Pirates finished the season 26-8 before losing in the Area Championship game 48-42 to a Paris team that went 10-0 in a 4A district last year and 10-0 this year in a 3A district.

The Pirates found themselves in possibly the strongest district in recent memory and were forced to win their last three district games to make the playoffs. They managed to do so in extraordinary fashion. The last game of the three was a buzzer beater win on a Dillon Good layup over the defending state champion Kennedale Wildcats to ensure a playoff birth. It only got better from there when guard Travis Dykman hit a jump shot at the buzzer to upset the favored Roosevelt Mustangs in overtime to claim the Bi- District Championship in the very next game. Although the Pirates fell a little short of the Regional tournament, their identity was defined by their character, and their never quit, never give in attitude which will hopefully set the precedent for each and every Crandall team of the future.

This year's team had a solid and balanced attack. Travis Dykman- 1st team All District and Offensive player of the year- lead the guards in scoring and as-

sists and Senior Brett Russell- 1st team All District- lead the way in the paint. Randall Henderson- 2nd team All District-did a great job as the team's defensive specialist. Senior Dillon Good - 1st team All District and, James Kirbie - 2nd team All District both hit some big shots for us down the stretch. Reid Baker, Tucker Mallon and Senior Cody Eastep all received All District Honorable mention and played important roles at guard this season. Brandon Johnson - 2nd team all district, Hunter Vess - All District Honor-able mention, and Senior Steven Wood - All District Honorable mention all did a great job controlling the boards.

The Pirates coaching staff was led by Head Coach Stan Short. The assistant coaches were Lance Edge - JV, Brad Peirson- 9th, Kelly Moore - MS, and Adam Hughes- MS. Although the four departing seniors will be missed, the team has some solid, young players returning and looks forward to another challenging district schedule next season as yet another large school, North Forney is added to our district 12-3A.

The annual Crandall Camp of Champs will be June 15-18. You can contact Stan Short at 972 427 8030 with questions or go to www.crandall-isd.net for an entry form.

The New York Times recently printed an article about an NYPD officer who ran into trouble testifying in court in a criminal case because of statements from his Face Book and My Space pages. The officer's comments from his computer accounts included such things as how to physically abuse arrestees and not get caught. He attempted to explain the remarks away as "bravado", but the record showed them to be extreme, profane, and abusive. The defense presented the officer's remarks in court, causing the jury to doubt the officer's explanation of how an arrest took place.

The article focused on the officer's regret over getting caught up in his on-line statements. He said that he would mask his identity in the future when making on line comments and he also tried to make a distinction between how he does his job and how he'd "like" to do his job. But what he did NOT do, and what the news story did not point out, was that the officer's way of thinking was wrong.

The point is simply this, how you act is significantly influenced by what you think - you cannot consistently think one thing and do another. To do the right thing, you must believe that what you are doing is the right thing. For police officers to treat people honestly and ethically requires that we first believe that it is the right thing to do and to take that right thing and act on even when no one is around.

The Crandall Police Department is taking every step possible for transparency of action within and by the department. All citizens will be treated fairly and equally with a focus on the future. We all want a safe community.

Visit the new city website, www.crandalltexas.com and click on Police Dept.

Anyone acquainted with Ralph and Christine Ellis, knew that when you visited the couple who lived down the bumpy driveway off FM 741 and behind the distinctive pink door, you would be greeted with a "howdy, howdy, howdy" by Ralph and a "howdy do" from Christine. Ralph would probably talk as much as you would listen or until Christine would simply tell him that "he talked too much." However, you wouldn't be on you way until Christine made sure you had some sweet, delectable dessert in hand. That's just the way they were.

Ralph Joseph Ellis Sr. was born on January 12, 1914 in Tex-arkana, Arkansas, a son of the late David Joseph and Leila Dee Smith Ellis. Christine Zollner Ellis was born on November 4, 1917 in Rockwall, Texas to the late William and Gazelle Zollner. When you asked Ralph about the first time he met Christine, he would look at you, pause, smile and reply, "When I first saw Christine I saw diamonds in her eyes." They united in marriage on April 16, 1938 in Texarkana and their marriage spanned over 70 wonderful years. To this union, five children were born: Ralph Ellis Jr. and his wife Brenda of Cypress Springs, Texas, Evelyn Ward and husband Don of Lewisville, Texas, David Ellis and wife Marsha of Frisco, Texas, Charles Ellis of Irving, Texas and Carol Ann Orr and husband Joey of Crandall, Texas. Ralph and Christine always spoke so highly of their children and all of their accomplishments. If you knew Ralph and Christine, you knew everything about their children because they were so proud

of them. They also were very proud of their 13 grandchildren: Sheri Bough, Donna Bickert, Deborah Bickert, John Ellis, Brian Ellis, Chad Ellis, Christine Ellis, Lindsay Ellis, April Shuffield, Joshua Ellis, Jason Priest, Jodie Orr and Laura Orr and also their 10 great grandchildren: Macy Bough, Mallory Bough, Mathias Bough, Karina Bickert, Dustin Ellis, Adam Ellis, Connor Ellis, Madalyn Ellis, Pace Ellis, and Forrest Shuffield.

Over the many decades of Ralph Ellis Sr.'s life, he owned the Ralph Ellis Service Station and Garage in Dallas, Texas. Ralph, Christine, and their family moved from Duncanville, to Crandall, Texas in 1961 where they ranched, farmed, and gardened their land.

Ralph eventually retired form the service station and garage business in 1973, but he continued to enjoy ranching, farming and gardening in retirement. Ralph and Christine's greatest traits were loving God and their family. They were both very active members of Central Baptist Church in Crandall, where Ralph served as a Deacon. They could always be found right up front on the left side of the church each Sunday morning.

On March 13, 2009 Ralph Joseph Ellis Sr. went to be with his Lord, where he patiently waited for his wife of over 70 years to join him. Four very short days later, on March 17, 2009, Christine Zollner Ellis joined Ralph in Heaven. Ralph and Christine Ellis, were loved so much by their family and community friends and are going to be deeply missed by all.

Puppies are extremely impressionable. How you train your new pet will have dramatic and long lasting effects. You can make your puppy a better pet and pre-vent many behavior problems by following these guidelines:

Housebreaking:Establish a routine. Keep the pup's meals regularly scheduled to encourage

more predictable elimination patterns. Take your pup out every two hours during the day and as needed at night. Select one toilet area. Take your pup to the toilet area five minutes after feeding, awakening, riding in a car, greeting new people, or chewing on toys. Also, take him out when you see him circling or sniffing around. When your pup relieves himself in the appropriate spot, immediately reward him with a food treat and verbal praise.

Socialization:Dogs, like their wolf ancestors, are pack hunters. Efficient hunting in a pack re-

quires a high degree of social organization. Dogs relate to people as pack members. It's up to your family to become "pack leaders" by performing simple exercises and stopping aggressive play. Failure to do so may cause other problems.

Introduce your pup to a variety of positive experiences. Visit three new places a week (AFTER THE INITIAL VACCINATION SERIES IS COMPLETED) and introduces him to five new people at each place. Take your pup on regular car rides and use a carrier to insure safer driving.

Brush your pup daily. At the same time, handle your pup's feet and ears and open his mouth for inspection. Massage him all over. If the pup fusses, say "no" firmly. When he is quiet, talk to him in a soft, pleasant voice. Expose your pup to various types of people, places and experiences. Take care he has a good experi-ence. Gradually acquaint him to very loud noises, like that of a vacuum cleaner turn it on and off from a distance.

It's Spring Clean-Up Time!

Well, it has been a while since I contributed to The Communicator. On January 27, 2009, I underwent knee surgery. No, not because I wore my knees out by running! The idea that running destroys your joints is a myth. There is actually medical documentation that supports the fact that running is healthy for cardio, as well as joints. But that is another story. My problem was caused by a wreck I had on my bike during a training ride. I was riding along, minding my own business, when I suddenly hit a crack in the road, lost control and crashed. I guess that adds emphasis to the statement, "Crack Kills." I didn't know it at that time, but I had knocked a chunk of cartilage out of my knee. It was that ac-cident that resulted in my knee surgery. I went to the doctor he said, "No more monkeys riding bicycles.." No, he actually said I needed two surgeries on my knee. It sounded simple when he said it, but man, those surgeries were worse than the bike wreck. I have had to be on crutches for eight weeks. I was told the leg they cut on could not bear any weight until I was off the crutches. Again, eight weeks didn't seem like any big deal, but it was.

I have never known until now how uncoordinated I actually am. If I get down, I can't get back up. When I am up, I am an accident looking for a place to happen. My poor Yorkie dogs literally run and hide when they see me starting to get up and walk. People at Walmart have learned to just clear a path when I enter the store and I can tell they are all relieved when I finally stagger out the door.

I have to admit that this has been a much bigger deal than I could ever have imagined. I feel sorry for all of those that have had to wait on me hand and foot; mostly my wife. The crazy thing is that now that I am getting used to the crutches and am able to move about without causing too much damage, I can soon quit using them. If nothing else during this recovery, I have had to learn a bit of patience. I have had to wait for folks to do things for me. I couldn't just jump up and do them myself. It has certainly caused me to slow down and be reminded of what Isaiah 40:31 says, "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint." In our fast paced world, it is good sometimes to just slow down and gain a little perspective. You may find out your have been trying to out run God!

Destination Imagination - continued from page 5in Mesquite. The 2008-09 Destination Imagination theme was Noah's Ark. They worked long hours to prepare for their first tournament competition and placed 5th in their division. They were really thrilled with their accomplishment and were heard to say, "We are definitely coming back next year!"

This precious little boy was rescued from a back road where he was dumped and left to starve and fend for himself. He's one of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet and gets along well with everyone. Scooter loves to play or curl up by your side to watch TV. He's approx. one year old and full grown. He's quickly learning to be housetrained (doing great, too), is crate trained, neutered, current on all of his shots and heartworm negative. One look into

Scooter's eyes and you realize all he wants is to be someone's treasured companion. Call (214) 673-3844 if you're interested in giving Scooter a loving home where he'll never be abandoned again. References and a home visit will be required.
