Message from the Chair

OSI 2020 was particularly challenging in view of the Corona virus and the way it is impacting our lives this year. Not unexpectedly, this has thrown us a curveball in managing this year’s Ocean State International Exhi-bition. Images were judged remotely which slowed down the usual process but the results are now in!

Our judges included Richard Cloran, HonPSA, GMPSA, HonNEC; Sarah Musumeci MNEC; and Deb Page. They were entrusted in judging 1012 outstanding images and as challenging as it was to do this remotely, they did an excellent job!

This year was different from the last as a new platform was used, which was set up and managed by Dennis Goulet. He did an exceptional job, spending countless hours getting the remote access and judging up and running, organizing spreadsheets, and tabulating statistics. It was his dedication and hard work that led to events running smoothly.

Then came putting together the catalog and arranging the data for PSA. This was ably taken care of by our ever-so-competent Tara Marshall.

I take this opportunity to thank Deb Page for managing the Exhibition’s sponsorships. A big thank you to all our sponsors and Deb’s efforts in doing this. It is never easy asking for donations.

The rest of the OSI team, comprising of Tom Davis, Karen Johnson-Nieuwendijk and Sue Babin, all assisted with applying the finishing touches making this a very successful event!

The funds generated by this exhibition are used to promote photography and also includes sponsoring a na-tional speaker once a year somewhere in New England.

JUDGES

PSA 2020-137

Rick Cloran, HonPSA, GMPSA, HonNEC

Rick is a well-known judge and lecturer having served in those capacities extensively in New England as well as throughout the US and Canada. He has been a member of the Greater Lynn Photographic Association since 1975. For his service to photography both in New England and at a national level he has been awarded the Honor of HonPSA by the Photographic Society of America (PSA) and HonNEC by the New England Camera Club Council (NECCC). His success in exhibitions has earned him the GMPSA distinction.

Sarah Musumeci, MNEC

Sarah has presented programs at the NECCC Amherst Conference, four times, (on Trav-el, Architecture, Selections, and Painting with Corel Painter). Several years ago Sarah was one of the speakers at the National PSA Convention in Charleston, North Carolina. She is also one of the three ‘Portfolio Reviewers’ at the NECCC Conference each year, and in 2009 she received the MNEC award from NECCC. Currently she has a studio in her home town, where she takes portraits and paints them for the customers.

Deb is currently a member of the Photographic Society of Rhode Island (PSRI) Board of Directors and has served as President. She is also a member of the Massachusetts Camera Naturalists, North American Nature Photography Association (NANPA), and the RI/Mass Audubon Society. Her photography interests include Nature, Macro, Land-scape, and Night photography.
