Howdy All! Here we are, Spring 2016, with the yardwork looming. So far I have managed to avoid working in theoutside yard (although I mowed once and fertilized). As for theinside yard(s) much progress is being made. One can only hopethat you are all making progress on some facet of your modelrailroad projects.
The Spring Meet was yet another success with 39attendees including 5 new Rail Pass sixmonth memberships. Ifyou didn’t make it you missed out on our new ‘50/50 Split’ fundraiser. After paying an admission fee, donating for coffee/sodaand doughnuts, and winning bids in the silent auction, a total of$50 dollars was donated of which $25 dollars was awarded toone lucky attendee. I need to thank all of those that show up tohelp set up, operate the various functions and make sure thechurch looks like we were never there when we get done.
Regarding the Spring Meet, it seems every year there arereasons that some folks can’t attend. This year we managed tohit the Easter weekend. We try to hold our events on the fourthSaturday of the month. In the future, if you feel that a differentweekend would be better than the one scheduled, please let usknow so we can discuss alternatives.
As you are probably aware, the Regional Convention isbeing held in Salmon Arm B.C. in June. I can tell you frompersonal experience this convention will be somewhatexpensive. But, I remember all of those Canadians that havecome to our past conventions and feel that I need to show themthe same support. I hope you will feel the same.
The Region is still looking for a new President and VicePresident. The 3rd Division is currently represented by BruceMcCosh who is Regional Member Aid, and Greg Kujawa who isnow publishing the Switch List. It would be really something ifsomeone from the 3rd Division stepped up to fill one of thesevery important positions.
The Caldwell Club is holding an open house SaturdayMay 14th from 11:00 a.m. ‘till 4:00 p.m. I would encourage youto go see all of their wonderful progress.
Also, there will be a Train Show during the EmmettCherry Festival in June. I am still looking for someone tovolunteer to man the John Allen Time Saver switching puzzle. This is a great opportunity to share the hobby and possiblyincrease our membership. At the very least, it is great funwatching the kids actually operate.
Lastly, I want to thank Jerry Thomas, Andy Doll, TerryNelson, Bob Parrish and Warren Smith for their help at the

You may have heard by now that the Thunder MountainLines has been shut down.
I mentioned last time that Model Railroad Hobbiest hadscheduled an article of mine for publication. It was publishedlast December. Sandy Smith made a revisit to George Wolfrumto feature the rebuilt layout in the May/June 2016 NScaleRailroading magazine.
I've noticed that the mothball track in Nampa yard hasbegun filling up again. Probably has to do with the drop indemand for coal, which would affect traffic on the Powder Riverline.

And as always, if you need help with your modelrailroading, please give me a call and I’ll do my best to get youhelp!

Pacific and Idaho Northern layout. Since then progress hasaccelerated. Bruce, Bob and Jerry continue to show up pushingme to plan the next construction steps. In addition WarrenSmith comes all the way from his house (one half mile) to help.If this keeps up I think we just might be running trains by theend of the year.
I should give you a better understanding of the big picture. The Railroad starts with a staging yard of five tracks, BakerCity, as the south end. We climb up to the lower level to thetowns of Huntington and Weiser. Council and Tamarack will beon the center island. Next the helix takes us up to NewMeadows and White Bird on the island upper level. Then wetravel around the walls through Cottonwood and Winchesterfinally arriving at the Port of Lewiston which is the north end.
So, here is where we are. All of the bench work isfinished around the walls on BOTH levels. Plywood decking isalmost all cut for around the walls thanks to Dirk Dunham.Missing is the center island as it is planned to be built after themainline track is around the walls and tested. This eliminateshaving to work around the island through a three foot isle way.
The staging yard tracks are all in with feeder wiresdropped to bus wires and the Tortoise switch machines are

mounted. Two of the three CVP Products ZoneShares aremounted on a 2’ X 4’ board which is the central location for thecommand control system. There will be ten power zones withtwo being reversing circuits. Power for all this is routed througha master on/off switch and an idiot light to remind me to turn thesystem off on the way out.
I laid tracks in the Huntington yard to feed a turntable androundhouse but determined there just wasn’t room enough forthe roundhouse so plans are to place the turntable androundhouse on the south end of town. All the feeder wires are inalong with switch machines.
The helix is all built with track installed but I have yet toadd the feeder wire. It will not be operational for some time asthe center island feeds both ends.
Coming up will be planning the track arrangement forWeiser, installing more track power bus wires and adding aseparate set of bus wires for all of the switch machines. We are coming up on two years in this new house. Thanks to allthe great help we have made considerable progress.
Stay Tuned.
