Course Description
This course is designed to provide the students with information about the application of psychological theories to the learning processes and the development of children and adolescents Principles and procedures of measurement and evaluation are also included The primary objective is to facilitate a clear understanding of the complex and dynamic processes of learning and development This course is required as part of the teacher preparation program The four major areas that will be covered in this course are 1) development 2) learning and motivation 3) measurement and evaluation and 4) professional issues The course is designed to be useful for your future career and daily life be it teaching advising or even parenting I encourage you to fully engage in this course and always think about how the material can be applied in your profession in the future If you have questions please do not hesitate to contact me

A 90 and above (495 points and above) B 80-89 (440-494 points) C 70-79 (385-439 points) D 60-69 (330-384 points) F 0-59 (0-329 points)

1 Exams (total 300 points) Exams will constitute a portion of the grade There will be three non-cumulative exams worth 100 points each Exams will vary in terms of format but are likely to include both multiple-choice and short answer questions Corresponding course objectives -Competent application of psychological theories to the learning processes and the development of children and adolescents -Clear understanding of principles and procedures of measurement and evaluation

2 Mediarsquos View of Education and Learning (total 150 points) Three examples from mass media outlets (eg articles news essay video clips etc) will be distributed and discussed in class After class discussion write a short essay (2 pages maximum) to constructively critique the example and the paper is due a week after the class discussion Each essay is worth 50 points -Competent application of psychological theories to the learning processes and the development of children and adolescents -Clear understanding of principles and procedures of measurement and evaluation -Comprehensive knowledge of the complex and dynamic processes of learning and development
3 Teaching Philosophy Interview (100 point) Interview one of your most inspiring teacherscoaches and write a 5-page paper to summarize the interview your findings and critiques See more details of the logistics and grading rubrics attached at the end of the syllabus -Competent application of psychological theories to the learning processes and the development of children and adolescents -Clear understanding of principles and procedures of measurement and evaluation -Comprehensive knowledge of the complex and dynamic processes of learning and development
No make-up exam is allowed unless prearranged 48 hours prior to the actual exam date All assignments must be typed using a 12-point Times New Roman font double-spaced with one-inch margin on letter-size paper Each assignment is due in class and only hard copy is accepted For example the first Mediarsquos View assignment is due at 1045 AM on September 15th 2016 Ten points will be deducted from each late assignment if submitted within 24 hours after the deadline and no assignment is accepted afterward unless prearranged 48 hours before the deadline A signature on the first page with date and time from one of the Psychology department faculty or staff members is required when you do not turn in late assignments directly to the instructor late assignments without such signature or datetime information are not accepted

Teaching Philosophy Interview Guide
The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods
perspectives on assessment) 2 Identify the interviewee and acquire his or her written assent (see the template of
assent form distributed in class) 3 Develop an interview protocol and discuss the protocol with the course instructor in-
person or via email Revise the interview protocol when necessary (and include the final protocol when submitting the report)
4 Conduct the interview in person or distantly (phone Skype etc) Please keep an interview note which will be included in the paper Recording is optional
5 Write the report Please de-identify the interviewee (eg by using a pseudonym) and mask all identifiable information

Teaching Philosophy Interview Guide
The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods
perspectives on assessment) 2 Identify the interviewee and acquire his or her written assent (see the template of
assent form distributed in class) 3 Develop an interview protocol and discuss the protocol with the course instructor in-
person or via email Revise the interview protocol when necessary (and include the final protocol when submitting the report)

Teaching Philosophy Interview Guide
The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods
perspectives on assessment) 2 Identify the interviewee and acquire his or her written assent (see the template of
assent form distributed in class) 3 Develop an interview protocol and discuss the protocol with the course instructor in-
person or via email Revise the interview protocol when necessary (and include the final protocol when submitting the report)

Teaching Philosophy Interview Guide
The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods
perspectives on assessment) 2 Identify the interviewee and acquire his or her written assent (see the template of
assent form distributed in class) 3 Develop an interview protocol and discuss the protocol with the course instructor in-
person or via email Revise the interview protocol when necessary (and include the final protocol when submitting the report)

Attendance to class is required (see TAMUC Attendance section for details) Each assignment is due in class and only hard copy is accepted For example the first Mediarsquos View assignment is due at 1045 AM on September 15th 2016 Ten points will be deducted from each late assignment if submitted within 24 hours after the deadline and no assignment is accepted afterward unless prearranged 48 hours before the deadline A signature on the first page with date and time from one of the Psychology department faculty or staff members is required when you do not turn in late assignments directly to the instructor late assignments without such signature or datetime information are not accepted No make-up exam is allowed unless prearranged 48 hours prior to the actual exam date There are occasional pop-up quizzes in class the points earned from the quizzes are extra credits and will be added to your final grade

The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods

The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods
perspectives on assessment) 2 Identify the interviewee and acquire his or her written assent (see the template of
assent form distributed in class) 3 Develop an interview protocol and discuss the protocol with the course instructor in-

Attendance to class is required (see TAMUC Attendance section for details) Each assignment is due in class and only hard copy is accepted For example the first Mediarsquos View assignment is due at 1045 AM on September 15th 2016 Ten points will be deducted from each late assignment if submitted within 24 hours after the deadline and no assignment is accepted afterward unless prearranged 48 hours before the deadline A signature on the first page with date and time from one of the Psychology department faculty or staff members is required when you do not turn in late assignments directly to the instructor late assignments without such signature or datetime information are not accepted No make-up exam is allowed unless prearranged 48 hours prior to the actual exam date There are occasional pop-up quizzes in class the points earned from the quizzes are extra credits and will be added to your final grade

Teaching Philosophy Interview Guide
The purpose of this project is to help you identify and critically evaluate effective methods the educator implemented that facilitated your learning vis-agrave-vis different aspects and stages of development you were at This project also helps you practice important research skills and academic writing You will conduct a 30-minute interview centering on one of the topics (or more) covered in class critically analyze and evaluate the effective practices that facilitate your learning and write a 5-page report with references interview note and interview protocol (not counted within the page limit) Please closely follow the instructions below
Who to be interviewed The one person who has inspired encouraged or mentored you and who has greatly and positively impacted you He or she can be your teacher coach or mentor during K-12 or college He or she has to be above 18 years of age and cannot be your parent legal guardian sibling or close relative
How to do the interview Please follow the steps to complete this project 1 Identify a topic that you want to explore (eg effective instructional methods
perspectives on assessment) 2 Identify the interviewee and acquire his or her written assent (see the template of
assent form distributed in class) 3 Develop an interview protocol and discuss the protocol with the course instructor in-
person or via email Revise the interview protocol when necessary (and include the final protocol when submitting the report)
4 Conduct the interview in person or distantly (phone Skype etc) Please keep an interview note which will be included in the paper Recording is optional
5 Write the report Please de-identify the interviewee (eg by using a pseudonym) and mask all identifiable information
What to include in the paper The goal of the paper is to let the readers learn about the interviewee what he or she has done that inspired you how you critically evaluate the reasons and rationale behind such effective practices and implications to your future profession (ie what you will do when you are in his or her position) The paper is worth a total of 100 points and will be graded according to the following rubrics
