Scope of Peer Support Programs
1. A patient safety incident: an event or circumstance that could have
resulted, or did result, in unnecessary harm to a patient.
2. A critical incident or trauma: “Any sudden, unpredictable event that occurs
during the course of carrying out day-to-day duties or activities that poses
physical or psychological threat to the safety or well-being of an individual or
group of individuals” (as per SickKids definition in their Trauma Response
and Peer Support Policy
3. Other work-related stress (excludes issues related to Human Resources
such as job action or performance).

Canadian Expert Advisory Committee
Request was made in 2018 to CPSI and the MHCC to create a Canadian forum
for the sharing of knowledge / expertise and for the spread and scaling of best
practices for Peer-to-Peer Support Programs.
Mandate:
The CEAC’s mandate is to provide leadership on advancing Peer-to-Peer
support tools and resources and providing a forum for healthcare organizations
to ask questions, get expert advice and share information on effective tools and
resources for Peer Support.

Background:
➢ Members of the CPSI Canadian Best Practices Guidelines Working
Group identified the need to establish a Canadian web-based
platform for the sharing of information and ongoing guidance.
➢ To address this need, CPSI has established a web-based Peer
Support Network as a forum for healthcare organizations seeking
guidance in the development of their Peer Support Programs.
➢ This Network will be supported jointly by CPSI and the members of
the Canadian Expert Advisory Committee for Peer Support
Programs (CEAC).
Purpose:
To support and promote the advancement of Peer Support
Programs across Canada.
The platform will help identify, review or address ongoing or
emerging Peer Support needs / issues.

Objectives:
The following are the key objectives of the Canadian Peer Support
Network is to:
➢ Provide a platform for the sharing of information between the CEAC
members, as well as between the general Network membership.
➢ Provide a platform to share expert advice to healthcare organizations
and providers seeking guidance in their work to establish Peer Support
Programs, or support to advance their Peer Support Programs.
Canadian Peer-to-Peer Support Network
Function of Network:
The Canadian Peer Support Network is a web-based platform on a
Microsoft 365 Teams site that connects members to the content and
information you need on Peer Support Programs.
Members can use the Network Team site to store and collaborate on files
or to create and manage lists of information.
On the Network Team site home page, members can view conversations,
links to important team files, and see recent site activity in the activity feed.
Canadian Peer-to-Peer Support Network
Membership:
➢ Representation from not-for-profit healthcare organizations who are either in
the process of developing a Peer Support Program or have an established
Peer Support program.
➢ The Network will include members from all Canadian jurisdictions.
➢ International healthcare organizations may join by special request.
