TENNESSEE PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSOCIATION

Dear Colleague:

We are writing to tell you about the Tennessee PsychologicalAssociation and to invite you to join,

T,P,A, is the statewide organization of psychologists of all types -academic psychologists, clinical psychologists, research psychologists,school psychologists, industrial psychologists and others. Our membership is over 400 people, nearly half the psychological personnel inthe state.

What does T,P.A, do? A sample of activities is shown below:

- Continuing education - annual workshops for Tennessee psychologists,

- Annual convention - to present research findings, to participate insymposia, discussions, or workshops, to meet with colleagues,

- Communication - Our newsletter keeps us abreast of what is going onin psychology in Tennessee.

- Representation of Tennessee at the American Psychological Association,including a Council Representative, reporting our activities to theAmerican Association of State Psychology Boards, participation inDivision 31 affairs, communicating with APA Committees, and nominating members,

- Legislative activity - monitoring legislation relevant to psychologyin Tennessee and working with legislators on these laws.

- Ethics - defining and maintaining ethical standards for psychologistsin the State of Tennessee.

- Research - student honors to the best papers submitted,

- Standards - PRSO and PSRC are current and we are providing inputfrom psychology on these review standards,

- Honors of important local psychologists - as nominated and approvedby psychologists in the state.

- Liaison to school psychologists in Tennessee.

- Recommendation to the Governor of Tennessee of qualified academicand non-academic psychologists to participate on the LicensingBoard,

- Encourage local psychological groups to function in variousregions of Tennessee,

- Represent psychology to various educational, governmental,health, and community agencies.

We are thinking about ways to expand the activities and the impact ofT,P.A, New and exciting ideas are being raised.

If you would like to be a part of the Tennessee Psychological Assoc-iation* new members are accepted at all times. We would be anxious foryou to join and participate. Your ideas and energy would be put togood use.
