^^^^HERE are many ways. inC j which the human mind

^fr_ii^ seeks knowledge, but nomatter what pathway it chooses, itcomes in the end to the finishedproduct of its search, the unfoldmentof a perfected harmonious Self-hood.There are many people who seek

unfoldment along the lines of scien-tific research, and many who seek italong the lines of philosophy; andthen, again, there are those to whomall life is simply a system of religionand worship. These lines of researchall add their mite to the sum total ofwisdom, but often after these thingshave been fully exhausted, we findthat there are many things latentwithin the consciousness, which havenot yet been answered ; we are unsat-isfied, and do what we will, the mindremains disquieted and incomplete in

its connections until it is linked withthe unfathomed laws of the psychol-ogy within itself.

Science, from the plane of science,is wonderful, and fascinates us withits far-reaching laws of material rela-tionships. Philosophy, from the levelof philosophy, is fascinating also, andleads us through a labyrinth of con-clusions and deductions more or lesspurposeful, but after a while all theseconclusions connect us with otherlines of consciousness, which they re-veal but do not interpret; and wefind that after the last words of sci-ence, philosophy, and religion havebeen said, there still appear levelsof mental and spiritual expression,which have not been revealed.Looking at life, then, from the in-

clusion of a larger spiritual percep-

tion, we find that in order to build

sublime and lasting interpretationswhich will stand the test of time, thehuman mind is called upon to inter-pret life not alone as a science, phil-

osophy, or even a religion, but in allthese ways linked together psychologi-cally, giving the race the example oflife as an art.

We cannot know life as an art untilwe know and include in our conclu-sions the action of every phase ofhuman consciousness, both seen andunseen; and then, through higherscientific and philosophical training,based upon finer psychiatry, the racecan come into larger methods for hu-man progress, and through thesemethods eradicate sin, sickness, pov-erty, and lack of every nature.

In order to know these finer laws ofrelationship, we must understand notonly our own being, but the laws ofthe universe in which we live. Theenergy which operates the physicalhuman form is derived from, and is apart of the Infinite Source ; it is eter-nally existent as Universal Intelli-gence. This Intelligence creates andmanifests form in the world in justthe degrees of harmony and power

Unless all the states of conscious-ness and their corresponding cellcenters are co-related in perfect at-one-ment, the thing called life musttake on a perverted form.

CENTERS OF BEING

CHERE are two distinct cen-ters of higher action withinthe human body, one is re-

lated to the external world and itslaws, and with its hand-maiden, is re-sponsible for all our physical manifes-tation, and one which is in union withall the unseen metaphysical forces ofthe universe, and relates our humanlife with the wisdom of the ages past,and to come.One stands for the manifestation of

life revealed, and one is the agent ofthe life concealed; it is only as weteach ourselves through training, orthrough normal development to be-come master of these two positivecenters, and secure their continuousco-operation, that we become lords ofour own condition, and set ourselvesfree from the recognized laws of sin,sickness, pain and death, and bringour life into its normal expression ofpeace, power and divine realization.

has to do with the revealed life ofmen, is the cerebro-spinal brain andits system of nerves.The physical brain contained in the

cranium of the physical body is ourgreat personal law giver, and takes itsplace in the world of investigation,science and intellectual expression offacts. Its sole function is to producethoughts and to relate us normally tothe changing conditions of the every-day life.

It is necessary in order to get ourtrue position toward our subject thatwe remember that the physical brainis divided into two great divisions,viz., the right and the left lobe. Inthe left lobe are situated many of thehigher concept centers. Scientific in-vestigation has not yet determined allthe mysteries of this labyrinth of phys-ical expression; strive as we will topush psychiatry to a finish, neurolo-gists and psychiatrists are continuallyconfronted by new discoveries: Con-

THE SOLAR PLEXUStention is ever rife among them as toactual function and location of vitalcenters of the human brain ; but theyare more and more agreed that theleft brain is the controlling power ofall the higher human expression, suchas memory, imagination, speech, con-trol and expression.A tumor in the left prefrontal lobe

has been known to produce certainsymptoms from which scientists havebeen able to deduce important clini-cal precepts ; tumors in the right lobeof the brain have settled beyond adoubt the fact that the right lobe cen-ters are of a lower order or function,and the right brain is practically onlythe hand-maiden to the other half ofthe cerebrum.

It is upon this fact that those inter-ested in psychology and metaphysicalhealing hang their investigation andtheir faith. The left brain in its func-tion seems to be busy with the higherideations while the right lobe is moreclosely related to the physical body,

THE SOLAR PLEXUSand has more to do with the equaliza-tion or cell polarization ; it is a sort of

watchman to the physical body.It can readily be seen this being

true, whenever the body becomes dis-eased, and in a disordered condition,the right lobe is not performingsome of its functions, and the highercenters must be called into play toassist the body back into the higherexpression.The higher centers are called to the

rescue, and they pour through theright brain, and from this to the phys-ical body, impulses which make forhealth and strength.When the brain, through lack of

training and lack of power of concen-tration, loses its power of inhibitingconflicting thoughts, and becomesdiverse and registers thousands ofdifferent ideations, we become in-capable of making consciously to-ward a perfected impulse; ourwhole physical body begins to ex-press depolarization.

for wholeness in union with our highercenters of the physical brain, is the

solar plexus, or the abdominal brain ofthe physical body the great store-house of universal energy and wis-dom.The solar plexus is a large collec-

tion of nerve cells and it forms thegreat center of nerve generating en-ergy for the sympathetic nervous sys-tem; it is whitish gray in coloring,very much fenestrated, quite flattened,and is attached to the second andthird sacral nerves. It is situatedabove the middle of the upper borderof the pancreas, at the right and left ofthe coeliac-axis, just opposite themargin of the diaphragm.The sympathetic nerves of the chest

and abdomen are fully formed in afoetus while the brain is only a pulpymass; this could hardly be an acci-dent on the part of nature; the earlyformation of this system proves be-yond a doubt the priority of its func-

THE SOLAR PLEXUStions; the body is nourished andviscera perfected, the bony structurefinished without a brain or spinalcord; children have been born with-out the presence of a physical brain,the sympathetic carrying on all thework of nourishing and sustaining thebody.The absence of the cerebro-spinal

nerves and brain prevents a normalexpression in those cases, for withoutthem there is no way of registering anyexpression in the external world.The solar plexus is the home of the

ego or the spirit of men ; it is the con-necting link between man and theInfinite and is the meeting place of thedivinely physical, and the physicallydivine man. From the solar plexuswe receive our visions called faith }and when we register them in thefield of consciousness of our physicalbrain, and work them out throughscientific human reasoning into tan-gible expression, then they becomefacts.

CONSCIOUS UNION OF THECENTERS OF BEING

IT is not enough that we knowthe function of the cerebro-spinal center and the solar

plexus brain, we must know how toconnect and master them. We dothis by the power of conscious willing.We know the truth and the truth setsus free.

Union and conscious relation ofthese centers of being within us giveus health, strength, beauty and youthon the physical plane, and open thedoor for Divine revelation to the soul.The prophets and mystics of old

sang ever of their solar center of Di-vine influx.The Hebrews ascribe to the reins,

knowledge, joy, pain and pleasure.It is written " God upbraids the Jewsfor having Him in their mouths butnot in their reins." The psalmistssay, " His reins instructed him;" "for

righteous God trieth the heart and thereins ; " " my reins instruct me in thenight seasons " thus giving the clue

to all visions and prophecies andwe know clearly what these men ofold vaguely hinted, for the "reins"are simply the solar plexus center ofthe body.We are all familiar with the umbili-

cal cord of the new-born child; it isthe cord between the child and itssupply while in its unfoldment stages;this cord on the external plane standssimply as a symbol of the other sub-jective cord " as above so below."Those who can see the finer ethericbodies can easily see an etheric cordpassing from each individual, connect-ing him with the finer currents of theuniverse; it is always present whileone is alive on this plane, and as longas it is not disassociated, resuscita-

tion of those who appear to be deadcan take place.Over this cord there is continually

passing in and out through the reins,

All sight, hearing, feeling, andemotion, all subjective sensationsare the product of the activity of thesecurrents acting upon the solar plexusbrain and nerves and through theseupon the physical brain and nerves.There is but one sense, but this is

differentiated by the physical cen-ters into touch, sight, seeing, taste

and smell. Sound comes to us throughthe solar center, and the nervous sys-tems register it in the localized hear-ing centers. There are individuals sodeveloped that they can hear withother parts of their body as well aswith their ears; the ears, with theirfine nervous arrangement, are usedsimply to correlate sound, and pre-vent the expansion of tone.

Sight is the same; when one issufficiently alive in his solar center, hehas clairvoyance and cosmovoyance

;

he can see through space; peoplehave been known to tell what wasgoing on in different cities, seeing as

plainly as if they were there ; the opticcenters are only fine arrangements ofnerves by which one may correlate andlocalize his vision for physical objec-tive use, and when he knows the finerrelationship of self, he projects andexpands his vision or lessens it atwill.

What the race calls the love energyis localized in the solar plexus. Anydisappointment in love reacts uponthe body through the exaggeratedfunctions of the solar plexus center

and the sympathetic nervous system.One has only to recall the quickdeclines following a great disappoint-

ment. Heart disease and quick con-sumption are well known expressions.All the sympathetic centers are soclosely and carefully attuned thatheart disease, heart failure, anginapectoris, and all subjective heartsymptoms are the product of abnor-mal solar functioning, and throughthe cardiac centers the heart responds,

It is well known by allmystics that kidney troubles of allkinds are the physical response to ab-normal sensory stimulus or expres-sion, such as excess in sympathy,love, passion, drink or repression;often it is the result of carrying a se-cret for years. Psychical repression ofall kinds brings about abnormal renalfunctioning, and this is not hard to ex-plain when one remembers that thesupra-renal capsules of the kidneysare supplied in a wonderful way bythe sympathetic nerves ; the scientiststhemselves say the branches of theseplexuses are remarkable for theirlarge size in comparison with the or-gan they supply.

Neurasthenia, the great Americandisorder, is simply the over-activity ofthe cerebro-spinal system of nervesand physical brain centers. Psychas-thenia is the result of hyper-activity ofthe solar plexus brain, brought aboutby loss of control of the thought cen-

THE SOLAR PLEXUSters of the physical brain, allowingfeeling to over-excite the solar plexusbrain, and through congestion of thiscenter flood the system with an excessof electro radiant energy which can-not be taken care of by the physicalcell centers.

Both of these diseases will be curedwhen doctors and patients learn thetrue relationships of the centers ofmind and body, and establish truephysical and psychical relationshipthrough thought and breath, not al-lowing the system to be driven on bya wild explosion of electrical force.

Constipation is another Americandisease, and its cause and cure are inthe solar center; there is no longerany excuse to continue with this limi-tation if we will follow the law of ourown being and vitalize and electrifyour body.

In the normal individual the solarcenter is receiving a continuous influxof energy, coming to it from without,passing in through the solar cord as

the receptive or negative breath, andthrough the lungs as the creative posi-tive breath; this energy passes intothe solar plexus through etheric wavescoming from the sun, then from it overthe nerves of the solar ganglion to theexternal nervous system of the spinalcord, then to the pineal gland, then tothe brain.

The pineal gland is the central pointin the human brain where this energyis localized or controlled and sent outas needed at the call of the physicalcells ; it is always passing out in quan-tity sufficient to energize, vitalize andetherize the flesh when the relation-ship is normal ; but when it is broken,through diseases of the mind and lackof correlation of the centers of being,the control is lost, the regulatingpower ceases, and a vicious cycletakes the place; a diseased nervoussystem is the result.The pineal gland is the reservoir

which stores up vital energy forphysical supply; each cell in the body

THE SOLAR PLEXUShas its own normal amount storedwithin it, so that the exhaust andsupply is equal in a perfect body.The solar center is controlled, ex-

cited or quieted through the naturallaw of breath through the lungs andthrough thought control of the mind.We must breathe correctly before wecan polarize these psychical centerscontinuously.The great muscle of respiration is

the diaphragm, and in the descent andrelease of the diaphragm there isbrought about a control over the cir-culation of the solar plexus brain. Anincreased determination of blood toany center excites its function, just asa decrease lessens it, so that with com-plete breath control the circulation ofthe solar plexus brain is a thing of ourown making, and we increase it, ordecrease it at will.

In many cases of pulmonary hemor-rhage,^rhis natural law of the control ofall sympathetic functioning throughcompression of the solar center

brought about through forced descentof the diaphragm, has stopped hemor-rhages which were before uncontrol-lable. Deep, slow breaths relieveinternal congestion and draw theblood from the superficial vessels,and through the thoracic portion ofthe sympathetic cord, control of thepulmonary vessels is brought aboutSlow deep breaths change our vibra-tions, by increasing the molecularactivity of our physical cells.

In many people the solar plexus isinert, pale, bloodless and not capableof attracting through itself the re-quired amount of vibratory ether;when through breath we massage thesolar plexus we increase the determi-nation of blood to that center, andwith this increased molecular activ-ity, there begins to be a greater influxof energy, and the whole body soonbegins to respond with a new life.With this influx of energy the cells ofthe physical body again release the la-tent force within them and as this is

passed out in radiations from the phys-ical cells of the body, which in turndemand a new supply, the pinealgland is again excited into its normalaction of supplying the demand; thecenters in the physical body and brainbecome normal in their functioning,and the correct internal and externalcycle of psycho-physical activity hasbeen restored and the individual is inhealth.

The great creative energy of the uni-verse is always flowing through us justas the current runs along the line, andthis passing in of the finer ethericcurrents to be used in the construc-tion, rebuilding and vitalizing of thebody and mind, and the passing outagain from the physical body in linesof electrical force, is what consti-tutes the human aura, and those whoare actively alive in their radiation

are called magnetic and attractive.When one is in disease, the aura iscorrespondingly lacking in magneticor attractive power.

have a magnetic selfhood, and to holdconsciously the correct relationshipbetween these two centers of being.It is not enough to come into life andpass along taking ourselves a confusedbundle of states ; to be lord of our ownkingdom man must master himself,and only through understanding canwe pass in conscious dominion.From the subjective solar side of

consciousness we receive all the God-born impulses which manifest as hu-man aspiration and revelation; andthrough the external brain conscious-ness we can give out the God-like ex-pression of a divinely illumined mind.The great wisdom of the centuries

is registered in the Cosmic mind, andit is always beating upon us throughour solar center; we are children ofthe sun, and in its converged rays wewalk and live and have being. Witha carefully attuned human mind, thinking in unison with the finer raysof the universal mind, our common

THE SOLAR PLEXUSconsciousness becomes the great wire-less station with which we can regis-ter the Cosmic messages, and throughthis bring illumination to our daily life,and health to our physical forms, untilat last we vibrate to a universal intelli-

gence so high that, by the natural lawof atomic attraction we build a physi-cal body of substance so vibrant thatit becomes indestructible, and we areout into a new human experiencemade possible by our deeper under-standing.When we know the true psychology

of self, we join all the diverse currentsof the human brain and its idea cen-ters, with the unified current of powerthat comes to us from within the solarcenters ; then the physical and meta-physical are one; we pass from thepart of the law of life into the whole.We are lords of the physical, lords ofthe mental, lords of the spiritual, andlords indeed of all this lower kingdom,and our human life is linked with itssource.

THE SUBCONSCIOUS MIND

HERE have been so manythings written about the sub-conscious mind, its use and

power, that the student must wanderin a maze of uncertainty and confu-sion unless he can be turned back intothe straight path of research.

It is time for higher revelation onthis subject, and today there are thosewho know more clearly the greattruths which the earlier psychologistsonly dimly foreshadowed. It is thetask of the twentieth century mysticsto offer a clearer interpretation thanhas hitherto been given.The first psychologists taught that

man possessed an objective side ofconsciousness and held the subjectiveside to be endowed with greater powerthan the objective, but they threwlittle light on what these two statesof consciousness meant. From theseearlier teachings there has evolved

THE SOLAR PLEXUSthe practice in the new thought worldof hobnobbing with one's own sub-jective mind rather than getting intounion with the One Mind.We were told that suggestion to our

sub-self or subconscious mind wouldbring about within us certain well-defined experiences ; so while the oldthought world prayed to its Jesus, thenew thought world suggested to itssubconsciousness.

It is plain to those seeking to scien-tifically understand life's finer forces,that there are some very finely markedlaws in operation, and we cannot govery far in investigation until we find

there are many states of conscious-ness within us with which the ordinaryindividual is entirely unfamiliar, andfollowing this clue we come face toface with the fundamentals of univer-sal mind. The psychologists of todaysee only one substance, and find thissubstance is formed from minuteatoms, each atom possessing its ownintelligence or atomic mind.

Man is the highest point of local-ized atoms, and he and his environ-ment become a well-marked center ofactivity within the larger universal

world-mind.Man's physical body is only a com-

bination of atoms attuned to move atits own vibratory rate, the outer sub-stance is simply a shell, composed ofseparate points of intelligence.

Mind is always clothed in body andthe central undifferentiated atomicstream of intelligence within us iscalled our Spirit, while the outer crustsof this differentiated substance arecalled body, but they are really onesubstance.There must always be the outside

and inside action of every law, so thereis no such thing as a body and a spirit there is only the outside and insideaction of universal mind.Our physical cell body is a crust of

atomic intelligence, and is endowedwith a brain, nerve centers and systemof nerves through which the spirit or

THE SOLAR PLEXUShigher intelligence can play, andwithin this physical body is anotherbody of much finer substance be-cause it is much more vibrant; andwithin this finer body or second is athird body of still finer substance, andso on each body in turn holdinganother body, reaching the seventhdimension. There are three bodieswith which individuals in the or-dinary consciousness become familiar;the others belong to the fourth, fifth,sixth and seventh dimensions ofconsciousness and only a few onthis planet are awake in these statesof vibration.

Each body is endowed with its cen-ters for expression, and these centerscorrelate with the brain and nervouscenters of the physical body, andwhen the physical body is polarizedand functioning normally, it receives,sends out, is vitalized and sustainedby the energy of the finer ethericintelligence of its inner bodies.Combined with the cell intelligence

these bodies are linked into one bythe central intelligence within them,or the one mind.Each body is distinct in itself, yet

no one can say, " here one begins,"or, " here one ends," for they inter-penetrate as water does among thegrains of sand; the atoms of eachbody are held in suspension withinthe fluidic substance of the otherbodies.These bodies can be separated and

passed out at will by those who knowthe law, and each one is powerful onthe plane with which it has corres-pondence, and when we know howto manipulate the physical body andits cell consciousness through the con-sciousness of the other bodies, we pro-duce within the physical body a law oflife of which those who are workingonly with the intelligence of the phys-ical consciousness know nothing.These bodies are held together cen-tralized into one point in the solarplexus of the physical side.

What the older psychologists fondlycalled the subconscious mind is noth-ing but the inner second body andits accompanying state of conscious-ness. This body is called by thosewho name it the " psychic self."When one can function in this part

of his consciousness and has becomeacquainted with this self, he is morepowerful in his physical body.

Suggestions to the subconsciousmind did this much good they vi-talized the activity of the psychic mindand body and rendered more possibleits power to manifestthrough the phys-ical self, for, while suggesting, thestudent was, to a small degree, sus-pending operation of his lower state ofconsciousness, or his physical objec-tive mind, giving more positive expres-sion to his finer forces.

The psychic body manifests throughthe centers of the physical brain; the

solar plexus, with the higher conceptcenters of the physical brain, acting

as the switchboard where connection32

THE SOLAR PLEXUSis made for consciousness, holds allforce intact.

All the diseases of the world, ex-cept accidental wounds, fractures andseptic infection, are simply the dis-cordant association between the phys-ical body, its centers, and the bodieswithin it. When this refraction takesplace, the ego cannot register its finerintelligence, and the physical bodybecomes the plaything of its own cellintelligence made more discordant bythe spasmodic registrations of thehigher mind.

It is known only too well that backof all the well-known conditions suchas nervous prostration, temporary in-sanity, nervous disorders, such aspsychasthenia, neurasthenia, neural-gia, heart troubles with mentalsymptoms, morbid forebodings anddespondency, mania and goitre, therelurks the abnormal activity of thepsychic body, separating the phys-ical body from the natural influx ofpower.

which disassociation is brought about.One is through the objective mind bynegative, destructive thinking, andthe other through the emotions bygiving away to negative, inharmoni-ous feelings. Our thoughts are thethings which vibrate our physicalbody, and our emotions are the thingswhich vibrate our psychic bodies, andon the thought will depend the charac-ter of the emotion, and an over-inten-sified psychic feeling will depolarizeour flesh.

It can be seen that when the asso-ciation between the psychic self andthe physical self has been disturbed,suggestion of the conscious mind tothe subconscious is really only achoosing of such a quality of thinkingas will re-establish a natural vibratory

law between the psychic and physicalcenters; the link of harmony is con-scious, constructive mental activity,which is bound to be followed by har-monious reaction.

sub-mind, we are only talking to ourobjective consciousness, and gettingour own physical cell intelligenceready to receive the psychic message,and when we can suspend the actionof our own objective mind and sendour thoughts and feelings straight intothe idea centers of our sub or psychicself, we thus connect the two bodies,and the psychic mind sends the energyback again into our physical cells, andthey respond accordingly.

Suggestion to the sub-mind is thesimple act of suspending our commonthinking altogether, and giving the egoor spirit a chance to speak and to regis-ter through our solar plexus on ourobjective mind and physical body thehigher vibratory power. Then whenwe turn back to common thinking, wefind our human mind illumined with aglory not its own and we come after awhile to trust our human convictionsto the uttermost; for with the touchof our finer states of consciousness,

THE SOLAR PLEXUSinto which we can pass at will, we feelthat our own consciousness becomesGod-enshrined.When we know our own physical

self and master all its laws, and livein our physical body as a king, we feelthat we are conquerors on the physicalplane ; but when we find our psychicself and master all its laws, and co-relate all its power, and pour it throughthe physical body, adding to this ourown natural physicaland mental power,then we are greater still, and ready tosay, " / know! " When we can sus-pend or link these two states of con-sciousness at will, we can pass intothe supra-conscious self, and thehigher dimensions still waiting for us,and feel the full relationship with ourother selves, passing all our attenu-ated energy through the psychic andphysical body, bringing all the energyof the inner selves to bear upon ourphysical environment, then we areconscious of our power and can speakas one having authority.

idea centers.Get calm in thought. Our thoughts

are the things with which we admitvibrations into our body which pro-duce harmonious or inharmoniousemotions. As we think, so we feel,and if these thoughts are harmonious,we respond constructively; if theyare inharmonious, then destructivechanges begin within our body. Re-member that : " As a man thinketh inhis heart, so is he."

Get a beautiful constructive thoughtvibration, then begin the inbreathing

During eachbreath keep the thought of love, peace,health, joy, realization and illumination anything you desire, but choosingalways the thought which will awakenwithin your physical body the finestand highest impulses. With eachbreath \noW that you are really draw-ing from an inexhaustible supply, theenergy that will express for you in thethings you desire. Feel that cominginto your body, through your solarcenter, is the great ray of Infinite, crea-tive energy which you in your higherunderstanding are simply separatinginto form for your immediate needs.

After a few moments spent in con-centration, breathing and meditation,draw a long, deep breath and exhaleslowly. Repeat again and again untilyou can feel an increasing respiratorysense ; then holding the breath with-out exhaling, forcibly raise and lowerthe diaphragmatic muscle. Repeat

We simply let the GreatBreath breathe through us. First: Tothink harmoniously and breathe con-sciously; Second: To breathe deeplyholding each breath as long as pos-sible, then releasing and waiting aslong as possible before again inhaling;Third: Inhale, holding breath, andmassaging solar center with dia-phragm, then releasing, and againtaking up the ordinary breath.The massage of the Solar Plexus

through this breath gives one in-creased circulation of blood to thesolar center and this increases its at-tracting power; with a full stream ofpsychical energy flowing in from with-out, a full stream of power is releasedby the cells of the Solar Plexus itself.This electro-radiant energy flows overthe sympathetic nerves and is trans-
