Audience Breakdown

From a class of 23, these are the results I received after asking them a questionnaire:

Aquinas Magazine:

For this preliminary task we had to design a front cover and contents for the college magazine. We had to aim the magazine for students just like us, and make it appeal to them.

Page 8: Pt 2

EvaluationBranding: I have changed the colour of the first letter to create a brand identity.

Date: so the reader knows which issue they are reading.

Eye Contact: is vital to grab the readers attention and keep them interested. It also persuades the reader to buy it.

Page 9: Pt 2

Cont.

Anchoring: the star is identified and is vital to attract potential readers.

Colour Scheme: is important to create brand identity. I have made the first letters of each word purple to match the colour scheme of purple, white and black.

Unique selling point: helps to attract reader, and persuades them to buy this publication rather than others.

Tag Line: Essential if you want to get the genre of the publication across to the reader.

What would I improve...

Rule of Thirds: I would try and make the star’s name small enough to fit into it’s ‘third’. It looks unprofessional.

Positioning: I would move this further up the page so potential readers see it first.

Background: I could’ve chosen a picture with a lighter background so the text would stand out.

Colour Scheme: I could’ve chosen a more unisex colour choice, so it would appeal to both genders.

Page 11: Pt 2

Cont.Branding: A repeat of the masthead creates brand identity. This is used throughout the magazine.

Quote: encourages reader to read the article about the star.

Standout Numbers: this helps the reader find the article they want quickly. It separates each feature.

Columns: helps reader to understand page order. Stops them getting frustrated trying to find an article.

What I would improve...

Editorial: I would insert an editorial instead of the ‘Plus’ section. Shows commitment and passion in the job.

Features: I would make the cover story feature stand out more so the reader will instantly see and recognise it.

Importance: I could’ve made the contents about the cover star rather than about a totally different article.Columns and Subheadings: I could’ve shortened the subheadings. They look unprofessional because they are too detailed.

Rejected Images

Rejected because it is a bad Mise-en-scene and bad quality because it is blurry

Rejected because star is on the gutter – star will be cut in half.

Rejected because it would not fit on the page properly. Does not engage reader.

star is not looking at the camera and engaging the reader.

Q3.

Rejected because there is no room for columns without covering the stars’ faces.
