October 2016 Happy Halloween! This year, our Box Tops for Education fundraiser isn’t just about raising money for the Shawnee PTO. It’s also about earning bragging rights for our school! We’ve entered into a competition with Sequoyah Elementary to see which school can the collect the most Box Tops by Halloween. If we win, the Sequoyah principal has to wear Shawnee Spirit Wear for a day. If not, Mrs. Simon has to wear Sequoyah Spirit Wear. It’s a close race right now, with Shawnee in the lead with $761.60. But Sequoyah is close behind with $737.40. Help Shawnee come out on top by sending Box Tops to school in a baggie or taping them to a collection sheet. Each class has its own collection box with the teacher's name for the baggies and each pod has a box for collection sheets. Our school’s first collection period ends Nov. 22, and an ice cream party is up for grabs. The top-collecting classes currently are: 1. Mrs. Bialek (654) 2. Mrs. Vohs (635) 3. Mrs. Kucsulain (487) 4. Dr. Rouse (446) 5. Mrs. Jimison (381) and Mrs. Gardner (381) Download collection sheets at shawneepto.weebly.com or grab them from the rack outside the PTO office. VENDOR NIGHT: NOV. 10 Get a jump on your holiday shopping at our Vendor Night event on Nov. 10 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the school. 2016–2017 SHAWNEE PTO BUDGET Below is the 2016–2017 Shawnee PTO Budget, which was approved by those in attendance at our first meeting of the school year on Monday, Sept. 26, 2016. You can download a copy of it from our website under the “PTO Documents” tab. The 2016 Shawnee Fun Run earnings will directly fund the items listed under “Expenses.” Fun Run results will be discussed at our next meeting on Monday, Nov. 28 at 4:30 p.m. in the school library.

2016 SHAWNEE FUN RUN UPDATE Although the deadline for event T-shirts has passed, we are accepting Fun Run donations through the day of the event, which is Friday, Oct. 21. Please consider donating to help us achieve our goal of $17,000. Don’t forget, the grade that raises the most money will receive a pizza lunch — and 1st grade is currently in the lead! As a reminder, the Fun Run is a school-wide event, meaning all students will participate regardless of the funds they raise. Each student will also receive an apple and water when he/she completes the course, which is on the school grounds. Grades 1–5 will follow a 1-mile course, while Kindergarten will complete a half-mile course.

Fun Run Schedule by Grade • Kindergarten/1st Grade: 9:15 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. • 2nd and 3rd Grades: 10:15 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.

(includes Mrs. Baumgart’s 3rd graders) • 4th and 5th Grades: 11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

(includes Mrs. Baumgart’s 4th graders) Parents are welcomed (and encouraged!) to cheer on the students. Sign up to volunteer at signupgenius.com/go/30e0c4fa9ac2ba3f49-2016.

Just need a volunteer to hang event posters, copy and distribute event flyers, and pass out event stickers. Electronics Recycl ing Chair: Need a volunteer to package and ship items collected.
