PUBLICCONSULTATION
Translink has made significant investments in the railway network within the North West over the past few years. The necessary track safety works to upgrade the Derry~Londonderry to Coleraine line have now been completed with the final phase of works, which will allow the running of an hourly service, planned to commence in 2014. The new state-of-the-art trains are now in service and are delivering a ‘step-change’ in service reliability and improved accessibility. Earlier this year, a new timetable was also introduced that offers over 20% additional seating capacity across the network.

As a potential next step in development Translink are considering both redevelopment and relocation options for the train station.
It should be noted that this project is currently not funded within Translink's 3 year capital plan.
At this early stage, we are looking at the feasibility of upgrading and/or relocating the existing train station at Duke Street and we would like to hear your views.
If the funding becomes available Translink will endeavour to undertake further feasibility and scoping work to determine the full level of investment needed for such a project and the potential social, economic and environmental impacts.

The current train station is located at Duke Street, in the Waterside area of the city. The existing terminus was opened in 1980 and sits beside the original Waterside Station which is owned and used by others. The existing station, may not have the capacity to cope if demand for rail travel increases substantially in the future.
Following an initial feasibility study, Translink have identified four options for the upgrade of the train station, including keeping the station in the existing location or moving it to an alternative location.
One of the reasons for possibly moving the station is to investigate if there are any opportunities to utilise the new Peace Bridge to improve pedestrian and cycle linkages to the city centre or to utilise the old station.
The four options being considered are shown on the map - further details on each of the four options, including the advantages and disadvantages for each option are shown overleaf. Please note that options are limited for the existing railway line – there are no plans to extend the railway line further into the city.
WHAT ARE THE OPTIONS BEING CONSIDERED?
1. Refurbish the existing station2. A new Ebrington Station3. Relocate to the original Waterside Station4. A new 'Waterside Link' Station
